        Experimental and Numerical Study on Flexural Performance of a Novel Steel-Encased Concrete Composite Beam

        This paper presents a novel configuration of high strength U-shaped steel-encased concrete composite beam (HUCB) in which shear studs connect concrete and U-shaped steel at top flanges and bottom plate. The junction surface of upper slab and lower portion is strengthened by evenly distributed inserted circular rebar. Two steel reinforcements are arranged in the composite beam along the longitudinal direction to reduce the deformation of encased concrete and provide adequate bending capacity under fire condition. Based on the flexural experiments of five specimens, the test failure pattern, load-deflection relation curves, sectional strain distribution at different height and ultimate flexural performance of the HUCB were obtained and are reported in this research. The experimental results show that the HUCB has high ductility and excellent flexural performance. According to test results of five specimens, new calculation formulae were presented to theoretically analyze the flexural capacity of the HUCB. The theoretical analysis values of flexural capacity according to the proposed calculation formulae are consistent with the test results of all specimens. A three-dimensional finite element model is also established to investigate structural performance of the proposed novel composite beam. Test results of five specimens verify the accuracy and validity of finite element analysis results. Parametric studies of the HUCB under positive bending moment are carried out to further analyse the influence of concrete compressive strength, yield strength of U-shaped steel plate and flange width of concrete slab on the flexural performance of the proposed new composite beam.

        Doping effect on the adsorption of Na atom onto graphenes

        We investigate the adsorption of Na atoms on pristine graphene and four types of defect graphenes using the first-principles calculations. The adsorption energies, electronic structures, Na storage capacities and the average potentials of Na atoms on different graphenes are calculated. The adsorption energies of Na atoms on B-doped, vacancy and B-doped vacancy graphenes are 1.93 eV, 2.46 eV, and 2.08 eV, respectively, which are much lower than that of Na on the pristine graphene (0.71 eV) and Na on Ndoped graphene (0.27 eV). The orbital hybridizations in the B-doped, vacancy and B-doped vacancy graphenes can be observed from the partial density of states, while there is no obvious orbital hybridization in the N-doped graphene as well as the pristine graphene. The B-doped vacancy graphene has the best Na storage capacity, while B-doped and vacancy graphenes also possess better Na storage capacities than those of the pristine graphene and N-doped graphene. This work demonstrates that the graphene introducing both B dopant and vacancy is expected to be a potential material for storing Na.

        Prognostic Value of Baseline and Interim Total Metabolic Tumor Volume and Total Lesion Glycolysis Measured on 18F-FDG PET-CT in Patients with Follicular Lymphoma

        Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) at baseline and mid-treatment with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) scans. Materials and Methods The study analyzed data from 48 patients with FL who were treated in Jiangsu Province Hospital and reviewed their baseline PET-CT scans. TMTV and TLG were computed by using the absolute value of 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 thresholding method, respectively. Results Median age was 53 years, 75.0% of patients had stage III to IV disease, 43.8% had a Follicular Lymphoma International Prognostic Index 1 (FLIPI1) score of 3 to 5 and 20.8% had a FLIPI2 score of 3 to 5. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed the optimal cut-off values for TMTV3.0 and TLG3.0 were 476.4 (sensitivity, 85.7%; specificity, 78.0%; area under the curve [AUC], 0.760; p=0.003) and 2,676.9 (sensitivity, 71.4%; specificity, 78.0%; AUC, 0.760; p=0.003). On multivariable analysis, TMTV3.0 and TLG3.0 were independent predictors of both progression-free survival (PFS) (hazard ratio [HR], 5.406; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.326 to 22.040; p=0.019 and HR, 6.502; 95% CI, 1.079 to 39.182; p=0.042) and overall survival (OS) (HR, 4.111; 95% CI, 1.125 to 15.027; p=0.033 and HR, 5.885; 95% CI, 1.014 to 34.148; p=0.049). ROC curve analysis showed the optimal cut-off values for TMTV3.0 and TLG3.0 were 66.3% (sensitivity, 85.7%; specificity, 63.4%; AUC, 0.774; p < 0.001) and 64.5% (sensitivity, 85.7%; specificity, 65.9%; AUC, 0.777; p < 0.001). Conclusion Baseline TMTV and TLG are strong predictors of PFS and OS in FL. Furthermore, interim TMTV (TMTV > 66.3%) and TLG (TLG > 64.5%) reduction are valuable tools for early treatment response assessment in FL patients.

        A modified heteropoly acid catalyst with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide for methacrolein to methacrylic acid

        A novel type of heteropolyacids, CTAB-CsH3PMo11VO40 (CTA-CsPAV), was developed by a method of emulsion synthesis using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as the structure promoter, which was applied as a catalyst in the oxidation of methacrolein (MAL) to methacrylic acid (MAA) with fixed-bed reactor. The structure and property of CTA-CsPAV were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, nitrogen adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, SEM, XPS, and so on. The structure-performance relationship of CTA-CsPAV was systematically studied, wherein the influence of surface area, acidity, redox property of CTA-CsPAV were focused and discussed. Importantly, the long-term performance of CTA-CsPAV was also investigated.

        De novo transcriptome analysis of an albino mutant Pasphiopedilum pacific shamrock reveals reduced expression of genes related to chloroplast biosynthesis and division

        Paphiopedilum pacific shamrock is an orchid with high ornamental value. Understanding the mechanisms responsible for leaf color in albino mutants is important for ornamental development and breeding. In this study, we compared the leaf photosynthetic pigment content and transcriptome of albino mutants ppa01 and wild-type P. pacific shamrock. Photosynthetic pigment in mutants was less than 2% of the wild type and chl a/b was 60% less than the wild type. Transcriptome sequencing yielded 6.27 Gb and 5.67 Gb clean data from the mutant and wild-type leaves, respectively. De novo assembly yielded 104,763 unigenes with 15,400 greater than 1 kb in length. In unigene expression analysis, 3170 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified with 2231 (70.38% of total DEGs) down-regulated. Results from GO and KEGG enrichment analysis, KEGG pathway analysis and qPCR suggest that the reduction of chloroplast biosynthesis and division in the mutant was due to low expression levels of ppGLK1 and ppFtsz. Mutants were associated with fewer chloroplasts in leaf cells, abnormal chloroplast structures, impaired chlorophyll biosynthesis, and thus reduced total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents. Furthermore, down-regulated expression of ppNYC1 reduced transformation of chlorophyll b into chlorophyll a, leading to a chl a/b decline. The research will guide future studies of leaf pigment mutations and the breeding of P. pacific shamrock.

        Mixtures of Tea and Citrus maxima (pomelo) Alleviate Lipid Deposition in HepG2 Cells Through the AMPK/ACC Signaling Pathway

        Tea and citrus maxima are natural, medicinal homologous plants, typically used for making beverages, which have anticancer, antiobesity, and antioxidation properties. Green tea, yellow tea, and black tea were combined with citrus maxima to obtain green tea and Citrus maxima (GTCM), yellow tea and Citrus maxima (YTCM), and black tea and Citrus maxima (BTCM). The biochemical components of these mixtures were analyzed, and their possible effects and mechanisms on relieving liver lipid deposition were explored. The tea polyphenols, free amino acids, phenolamine ratio, and caffeine were comparable in YTCM and GTCM, being significantly higher than those in BTCM. In addition, the content of esterified catechins, nonesterified catechins, and total catechins in YTCM was significantly higher than those in GTCM and BTCM. All three mixtures of Citrus maxima tea significantly reduced lipid deposition in HepG2 cells, with GTCM and YTCM being slightly more effective than BTCM. Regarding the possible mechanism, Western blot analysis revealed that the three Citrus maxima tea mixtures could activate the AMPK/ACC signaling pathway, upregulate the expression of p-AMPK, p-ACC, and CPT-1 proteins, and downregulate the expression of SREBP1c and fatty acid synthase proteins to inhibit fat synthesis, thereby relieving lipid deposition in liver cells. In conclusion, as a novel and healthy beverage, Citrus maxima tea has the potential to alleviate liver lipid deposition, and further could be responsible for obesity treatment.

      • Suppression of Human Breast Cancer Cell Metastasis by Coptisine in Vitro

        Background: Coptisine, an isoquinoline alkaloid extracted from Coptidis rhizoma, has many biological activities such as antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antiviral actions. However, whether coptisine exerts anti-cancer metastasis effects remains unknown. Materials and Methods: Effects of coptisine on highly metastatic human breast cancer cell MDA-MB-231 proliferation were evaluated by trypan blue assay and on cell adhesion, migration and invasion by gelatin adhesion, wound-healing and matrigel invasion chamber assays, respectively. Expression of two matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), MMP-9, MMP-2 and their specific inhibitors tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP-2) were analyzed by RT-PCR. Results: Coptisine obviously inhibited adhesion to an ECM-coated substrate, wound healing migration, and invasion through the matrigel in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. RT-PCR revealed that coptisine reduced the expression of the ECM degradation-associated gene MMP-9 at the mRNA level, and the expression of TIMP-1 was upregulated in MDA-MB-231 cells, while the expression of MMP-2 and its specific inhibitor TIMP-2 was not affected. Conclusions: Taken together, our data showed that coptisine suppressed adhesion, migration and invasion of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells in vitro, the down-regulation of MMP-9 in combination with the increase of TIMP-1 possibly contributing to the anti-metastatic function. Coptisine might be a potential drug candidate for breast cancer therapy.

        Cinnamaldehyde Derivatives Inhibit Coxsackievirus B3-Induced Viral Myocarditis

        The chemical property of cinnamaldehyde is unstable in vivo, although early experiments have shown its obvious therapeutic effects on viral myocarditis (VMC). To overcome this problem, we used cinnamaldehyde as a leading compound to synthesize derivatives. Five derivatives of cinnamaldehyde were synthesized: 4-methylcinnamaldehyde (1), 4-chlorocinnamaldehyde (2), 4-methoxycinnamaldehyde (3), ${\alpha}$-bromo-4-methylcinnamaldehyde (4), and ${\alpha}$-bromo-4-chlorocinnamaldehyde (5). Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes and HeLa cells infected by coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) were used to evaluate their antiviral and cytotoxic effects. In vivo BALB/c mice were infected with CVB3 for establishing VMC models. Among the derivatives, compound 4 and 5 inhibited the CVB3 in HeLa cells with the half-maximal inhibitory concentrations values of $11.38{\pm}2.22{\mu}M$ and $2.12{\pm}0.37{\mu}M$, respectively. The 50% toxic concentrations of compound 4 and 5-treated cells were 39-fold and 87-fold higher than in the cinnamaldehyde group. Compound 4 and 5 effectively reduced the viral titers and cardiac pathological changes in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, compound 4 and 5 significantly inhibited the secretion, mRNA and protein expressions of inflammatory cytokines TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-$1{\beta}$ and IL-6 in CVB3-infected cardiomyocytes, indicating that brominated cinnamaldehyde not only improved the anti-vital activities for VMC, but also had potent anti-inflammatory effects in cardiomyocytes induced by CVB3.

      • An Adaptive Energy Aware Algorithm for Reliable Transmission Sensor Networks

        Route maintenance and repair process plays an important role in mobile self-organizing network. On the basis of considering route stability and energy aware routing protocol, a new scheme is proposed in this paper. Firstly, signal strength, rest energy and port queue length are periodically and alternately detected; secondly, cross-layer method is adopted for route maintenance, and the alternate route is actively established for data transmission according to the routing repair mechanism “Make-before-Break”; finally, relevant experiment is carried out in NS2 to simulate and compare the proposed protocol and other similar routing protocols such as RSEA and LAER. The experiment result shows that the new scheme has good performance in the aspects of data packet delivery ratio, overhead control and end-to-end delay.
