      • Colorectal Cancer Concealment Predicts a Poor Survival: A Retrospective Study

        Li, Xiao-Pan,Xie, Zhen-Yu,Fu, Yi-Fei,Yang, Chen,Hao, Li-Peng,Yang, Li-Ming,Zhang, Mei-Yu,Li, Xiao-Li,Feng, Li-Li,Yan, Bei,Sun, Qiao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Objectives: Understanding the situation of cancer awareness which doctors give to patients might lead to prognostic prediction in cases of of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Subsets of 10,779 CRC patients were used to screen the risk factors from the Cancer Registry in Pudong New Area in cancer awareness, age, TNM stage, and gender. Survival of the patients was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and assessed by Cox regression analysis. The views of cancer awareness in doctors and patients were surveyed by telephone or household. Results: After a median observation time of 1,616 days (ranging from 0 to 4,083 days) of 10,779 available patients, 2,596 of the 4,561 patients with cancer awareness survived, whereas 2,258 of the 5,469 patients without cancer awareness and 406 of the 749 patients without information on cancer awareness died of the disease. All-cause and cancer-specific survival were poorer for the patients without cancer awareness than those with (P < 0.001 for each, log-rank test). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that cancer concealment cases had significantly lower cancer-specific survival (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.299; 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.200-1.407)and all-cause survival (HR = 1.324; 95 % CI: 1.227-1.428). Furthermore, attitudes of cancer awareness between doctors and patients were significantly different (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Cancer concealment, not only late-stage tumor and age, is associated with a poor survival of CRC patients.

Advanced Gastric Cancer and Perfusion Imaging Using a Multidetector Row Computed Tomography: Correlation with Prognostic Determinants

        Huan Zhang,Zilai Pan,Lianjun Du,Chao Yan,Bei Ding,Qi Song,Huawei Ling,Kemin Chen 대한영상의학회 2008 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.9 No.2

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the perfusion CT features and the clinicopathologically determined prognostic factors in advanced gastric cancer cases. Materials and Methods: A perfusion CT was performed on 31 patients with gastric cancer one week before surgery using a 16-channel multi-detector CT (MDCT) instrument. The data were analyzed with commercially available software to calculate tumor blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), mean transit time (MTT), and permeability surface (PS). The microvessel density (MVD), was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining of the surgical specimens with anti- CD34. All of the findings were analyzed prospectively and correlated with the clinicopathological findings, which included histological grading, presence of lymph node metastasis, serosal involvement, distant metastasis, tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) staging, and MVD. The statistical analyses used included the Student’s t-test and the Spearman rank correlation were performed in SPSS 11.5. Results: The mean perfusion values and MVD for tumors were as follows: BF (48.14 16.46 ml/100 g/min), BV (6.70 2.95 ml/100 g), MTT (11.75 4.02 s), PS (14.17 5.23 ml/100 g/min) and MVD (41.7 11.53). Moreover, a significant difference in the PS values was found between patients with or without lymphatic involvement (p = 0.038), as well as with different histological grades (p = 0.04) and TNM stagings (p = 0.026). However, BF, BV, MTT, and MVD of gastric cancer revealed no significant relationship with the clinicopathological findings described above (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The perfusion CT values of the permeable surface could serve as a useful prognostic indicator in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Study of the Key Technology of Ghost Imaging Based on Rosette Scanning

        Zhang, Leihong,Kang, Yi,Pan, Zilan,Liang, Dong,Li, Bei,Zhang, Dawei,Ma, Xiuhua Optical Society of Korea 2017 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.1 No.5

Ghost imaging offers great potential, with respect to standard imaging, for imaging objects in optically harsh or noisy environments. It can solve the problems that are difficult to solve by conventional imaging techniques. Recently, it has become a hot topic in quantum optics. In this paper, we propose a scheme for ghost imaging based on rosette scanning, named rosette ghost imaging. Sampling a small area sampling instead of the whole object, the instantaneous field of view of rosette scanning is used as the modulation light field in ghost imaging. This scheme reduces energy loss, the number of samples, and the sampling time, while improving the quality of the reconstructed image.

A Case Study: Effects of Foot Reflexotherapy in an Infant with Sensorineural Hearing Loss

        Yujun Lee,Qingchun Pan,Ying Du,Lantu Zhang,Chunlin Li,Minyong Hu,Mingxian Li,Bei Li 사단법인약침학회 2020 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.13 No.2

Sensoryneuronal hearing loss (SNHL) is one type of hearing impairment. The incidence of hearing loss (HL) is 1e3 per 1000 births. Complementary therapies may be effective in addressing the maladies of infants with HL. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of foot reflexotherapy in an infant with SNHL. The patient was a 3-month-old infant with SNHL. Pretest and post-test for HL were conducted using an audiologic method (auditory brainstem responses) combined with behavioral audiometry. The subject was treated with foot reflexotherapy for 30 min per session four times per week for a period of 24 weeks. Foot reflexotherapy was effective in auditory recuperation of an infant with SNHL. The results of this novel study suggest that foot reflexotherapy can be an effective complementary treatment for infants with SNHL, especially for those 3 to 9 months of age.

Selenide-linked polydopamine-reinforced hybrid hydrogels with on-demand degradation and light-triggered nanozyme release for diabetic wound healing

        Wenjing Li,Ying Bei,Xiangqiang Pan,Jian Zhu,Zhengbiao Zhang,Tinglin Zhang,Jieting Liu,Dan Wu,Meng Li,Yan Wu,Jie Gao 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Background Multifunctional hydrogels with controllable degradation and drug release have attracted extensive attention in diabetic wound healing. This study focused on the acceleration of diabetic wound healing with selenidelinked polydopamine-reinforced hybrid hydrogels with on-demand degradation and light-triggered nanozyme release. Methods Herein, selenium-containing hybrid hydrogels, defined as DSeP@PB, were fabricated via the reinforcement of selenol-end capping polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogels by polydopamine nanoparticles (PDANPs) and Prussian blue nanozymes in a one-pot approach in the absence of any other chemical additive or organic solvent based on diselenide and selenide bonding-guided crosslinking, making them accessible for large-scale mass production. Results Reinforcement by PDANPs greatly increases the mechanical properties of the hydrogels, realizing excellent injectability and flexible mechanical properties for DSeP@PB. Dynamic diselenide introduction endowed the hydrogels with on-demand degradation under reducing or oxidizing conditions and light-triggered nanozyme release. The bioactivity of Prussian blue nanozymes afforded the hydrogels with efficient antibacterial, ROS-scavenging and immunomodulatory effects, which protected cells from oxidative damage and reduced inflammation. Further animal studies indicated that DSeP@PB under red light irradiation showed the most efficient wound healing activity by stimulating angiogenesis and collagen deposition and inhibiting inflammation. Conclusion The combined merits of DSeP@PB (on-demand degradation, light-triggered release, flexible mechanical robustness, antibacterial, ROS-scavenging and immunomodulatory capacities) enable its high potential as a new hydrogel dressing that can be harnessed for safe and efficient therapeutics for diabetic wound healing.

      • MiR-1297 Regulates the Growth, Migration and Invasion of Colorectal Cancer Cells by Targeting Cyclo-oxygenase-2

Chen, Pu,Wang, Bei-Li,Pan, Bai-Shen,Guo, Wei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.21

Cyclo-oxygenase-2(Cox-2), a key regulator of inflammation-producing prostaglandins, promotes cell proliferation and growth. Therefore, a better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of Cox-2 could lead to novel targeted cancer therapies. MicroRNAs are strongly implicated in colorectal cancer but their specific roles and functions have yet to be fully elucidated. MiR-1297 plays an important role in lung adenocarcinoma and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, but its significance in colorectal cancer (CRC) has yet to be reported. In our present study, we found miR-1297 to be down regulated in both CRC-derived cell lines and clinical CRC samples, when compared with normal tissues. Furthermore, miR-1297 could inhibit human colorectal cancer LOVO and HCT116 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro and tumorigenesis in vivo by targeting Cox-2. Moreover, miR-1297 directly binds to the 3'-UTR of Cox-2, and the expression level was drastically decreased in LOVO and HCT116 cells following overexpression of miR-1297. Additionally, Cox-2 expression levels are inversely correlated with miR-1297 expression in human colorectal cancer xenograft tissues. These results imply that miR-1297 has the potential to provide a new approach to colorectal cancer therapy by directly inhibiting Cox-2 expression.

Optimization of variable blank holder force based on a sharing niching RBF neural network and an improved NSGA-II algorithm

        Yan-Min Xie,Wei Tang,Fei Zhang,Bei-Bei Pan,Yaopeng Yue,Meiqiang Feng 한국정밀공학회 2019 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.20 No.2

Variable blank holder force (VBHF) is an important process parameter in sheet metal forming. The purpose of this study is to propose a sharing niching radial basis function (SNRBF) neural network for VBHF optimization. Two methods are put forward to improve the prediction accuracy of a RBF neural network. (1) A RBF neural network is trained by a sharing niching technique to achieve global optimal nodes. (2) In Latin hypercube design, Spearman correlation analysis is employed to decrease sample correlation. In addition, in order to improve the performance of the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), excellent individuals in each class of non-dominated individuals are selected by employing immune operators. Based on the Spearman correlation analysis and the Latin hypercube method, training samples are generated and numerical simulations are performed for a double C part. The surrogate models between VBHF and forming quality are constructed by a SNRBF neural network. The Pareto frontier solutions are achieved by employing the improved NSGA-II algorithm. Grey relational analysis is applied to determine the optimal VBHF loading trajectory. The results show decreased wrinkles in the optimized forming part and greater uniformity in the plastic deformation by employing the optimized VBHF, thereby leading to improvement in the forming quality of the double C.

Inflammatory Endotypes and Tissue Remodeling Features in Antrochoanal Polyps

        Chen Cai-Ling,Wang Yu-Ting,Yao Yin,Pan Li,Guo Bei,Zhu Ke-Zhang,Ma Jin,Wang Nan,Li Xue-Li,Deng Yi-Ke,Liu Zheng 대한천식알레르기학회 2021 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.13 No.6

Purpose: The pathogenic mechanisms of antrochoanal polyps (ACPs) remain largely unknown. This study aimed to characterize inflammatory patterns and tissue remodeling features in ACPs. Methods: Inflammatory cell infiltration and tissue edema severity as well as fibrin deposition in ACPs and bilateral eosinophilic and noneosinophilic nasal polyps (NPs) were studied with immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining. Cytokine levels in sinonasal tissues were detected with the Bio-Plex assay. The expression of coagulation and fibrinolytic markers was measured using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Results: Compared to control tissues and bilateral eosinophilic and noneosinophilic NPs, ACPs had higher levels of neutrophil infiltration and expression of myeloperoxidase (MPO), interleukin (IL)-8 and interferon (IFN)-γ. In total, 94.4% of ACPs demonstrated an eosinophil cationic protein/MPO ratio of < 1, compared to 79.0% of noneosinophilic and 26% of eosinophilic NPs. Principle component and multiple correspondence analyses revealed a neutrophilic and type 1 inflammation pattern in ACPs. Compared to control tissues, edema scores and fibrin deposition were increased, whereas d-dimer and tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) levels were decreased in ACPs and bilateral NPs, with more prominent changes in ACPs even than in eosinophilic NPs. The tPA levels were negatively correlated with IFN-γ, IL-8, and MPO levels in ACPs. Neutrophils were the major cellular source of IFN-γ in ACPs, and the number of IFN-γ+ neutrophils was elevated in ACPs than in control tissues and bilateral eosinophilic and noneosinophilic NPs. Conclusions: ACPs are characterized by the neutrophilic and type 1 inflammation endotype. Neutrophil-derived IFN-γ is associated with reduced tPA production in ACPs.
