박소영,고영태,정후길,양진오,정현서,김영배,지근억 한국미생물생명공학회 ( 구 한국산업미생물학회 ) 1996 한국미생물·생명공학회지 Vol.24 No.3
For a probiotic yoghurt it is desirable to utilize lactic acid bacteria with a high survival rate and beneficial function to human beings. We have examined a variety of lactic acid bacteria to assess the acid and bile tolerance and antibiotic resistance. In addition, an in vitro culture experiment was performed to evaluate their ability to reduce cholesterol levels in the growth medium. Thirteen strains were selected from in vitro cholesterol assays and fed to Sprague-Dawley rats with a high-cholesterol diet. Among the 13 strains tested, 8 strains were shown to reduce serum cholesterol levels significantly after 24 days of administration in vivo. Rats were fed lyophilized yoghurt powder fermented with a combination of 3 selected strains: Bifidobacterium infantis AM-220, Lactobacillus AM-245, and Streptococcus MA-1. The levels of total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein were significantly lower (p≤0.05) in rats fed the yoghurt powder compared with control group. These studies suggest that yoghurt fermented with appropriately selected lactic acid bacteria may have a anticholesterolemic effect.

This research was undertaken to study the mineralogy, and the optimum conditions for uranium leaching and extraction from the Okchon system graphite ores in the Kumsan areas. A research has been needed to study the refining process for the effective leaching and extraction from uranium ores in the Kumsan area which has more uranium deposits than any other area. By the mineralogical study with the powder X-ray diffraction method, primary uranium minerals are uraninite, brannerite, coffinite etc. and secondary uranium minerals are uranocircite, niobium uranium oxide, carnotite, toberite etc. has developed in the studied area uranium ores. The volumetric ratio of the primary and the secondary uranium minerals are approximatly 1 : 5. In this experiment, the uranium-bearing graphite in the Kumsan area was milled with a jaw crusher and ballmill. This milled uranium-bearing graphite was leached by sulfuric acid and from this sulfuric acid-leaching solution, uranium was extracted by Amberlite LA-1 in kerosene. The results are as follows: (1) The optimum results in the leaching process are : acidity pH = 1.0, temperature : 25.0℃, particle size : -80+120 mesh, leaching time : 24 hours, pulp density : 50% solid (2) A good pH range for uranium extraction was between 0.8 and 1.3. (3) The uranium distribution coefficient increases in direct proportional to the concentration of the Amberlite LA-1 as extractive agent. (4) The optimum time at 200rpm was 15 minutes.

We report here on a case of primary extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma that arose from the pancreas. A 41-year-old man was evaluated by CT to find the cause of his abdominal pain. The CT scans showed a heterogeneously enhancing necrotic mass with numerous areas of coarse calcification, and this was located in the left side of the retroperitoneal space and involved the body and tail of the pancreas. Portal venography via the celiac axis also showed invasion of the splenic vein. Following excision of the mass, it was pathologically confirmed to be primary extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma that arose from the pancreas.

<P>Active calcium transport is carried out by calcium channel proteins, cytosolic buffering or transfer proteins, and pump proteins. Several components of this transport system have recently been verified using gene knockout (KO) models. We previously generated calbindin-D9k (CaBP-9k) KO mice and reported that induction of expression of some calcium transport proteins can compensate for the CaBP-9k gene deficiency. In the current study, we have further clarified the compensatory regulation of calcium transport genes by two calcium regulating hormones, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) and parathyroid hormone (PTH), in CaBP-9k KO mice, because the levels of these hormones differ between the KO and wild-type (WT) mice. The induction of transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily V, member 6 (TRPV6) in the duodenum was observed in adult KO male mice but induction was not modified by physiologic doses of 1,25(OH)2D3. Duodenal TRPV6 transcription in WT and female KO mice were modulated by 1,25(OH)2D3 in a dose-dependent manner. This compensatory gene induction was not detected in the mice fed a vitamin D3-deficient diet. Compensatory gene induction was not affected by PTH. Thus, the compensatory expression of duodenal TRPV6 in the KO male mice may be tightly correlated with serum 1,25(OH)2D3. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) transcription and protein levels were measured to examine whether VDR expression mediates differential regulation of duodenal TRPV6 between WT and KO mice, but expression and levels of VDR were similar in both genotypes. The compensatory TRPV6 transcripts in KO mice may be modulated by endogenous vitamin D3 via other factors of VDR signaling complexes. J. Cell. The increase of inverter-based renewable energy sources reduces inertia constant of power systems and the loss of the system inertia may cause power system stability problems. To ensure a secure energy delivery system, these problems should be analyzed thoroughly from various perspectives about power system stability. This paper presents the estimation of the critical inertia of Korean power systems, which is the minimum amount of inertia required to maintain power system dynamic securities. The estimation has been made by gradually reducing the system inertia of Korean power systems and then by analyzing the change of dynamic securities in terms of transient and small signal stabilities. In the transient stability aspect, the decrease of critical clearing time(CCT) has been analyzed with four different reduced inertial models of Korean power systems. With the small signal stability perspective, the change of the system damping ratio has been studied. Based on the results from the stability studies, the critical inertia has been determined and it can be considered as the indirect limit of renewable energy shares in Korean power systems.

Topoisomearse II is an essential enzyme in all organisms with several independent roles in DNA metabolism. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the C-terminal region of topoisomerases II is associated with hetero-logous protein-protein interactions in human and yeast. In this study, we identified that RTP1, a rat homologue of EIA binding protein BS69, is another topoisomerae II interacting protein by yeast two-hybrid screening. RTP1 has an E1A-binding domain and a MYND motif, which are known to be required for transcriptional regulation by binding to other proteins and interaction with the leucine zipper motif of topoisomerase II. The physical interaction between RTP1 and topoisomerase ll$\alpha$ was examined by GST pull-down assay in vitro. The expression level of RTP1 peaks in S phase as that of topoisomerase ll$\alpha$. These results suggest that the interaction between topoisomerase ll$\alpha$ and RTP1 might play an important role in regulating the transcription of genes involved in DNA metabolism in higher eukaryotes.
