      • A Rational Entry to Cyclic Polymers via Spontaneous and Selective Cyclization Reactions

        Although recent advances in chemistry have made it possible to synthesize polymers with various topologies, effective routes that selectively afford cyclic topology in high yield and quantity still remain limited. This is mostly due to difficulties associated with purification, and, in particular, the selectivity of macrocyclizations. In this work, effective synthetic methods for the cyclic polymers were developed by utilizing supramolecular chemistry<sup>1</sup> and dynamic covalent chemistry.<sup>2</sup> (1) D. Aoki et al., J.         Validation of HPV triage in cytology- based cervical cancer screening for ASC-US cases using Japanese data

        Objective: In Japan, cervical cancer screening consists of a cytology examination performed once every 2 years. We verified whether the risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 3 disease or higher (CIN3+) was equivalent to that of cytology negative cases (negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy [NILM]) for patients with a cytological diagnosis of “atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US)” who tested negative for human papillomavirus (HPV). Methods: Data from a total of 22,925 cases who had undergone cervical cancer screening at least twice or who had completed follow-up examinations after cervical screening at a single facility between April 2013 and April 2018 were analyzed. The cumulative incidence of CIN3+ was calculated for each category of initial cytology finding and HPV result (NILM, > ASC-US, ASC-US/HPV (unknown), ASC-US/HPV+, and ASC-US/HPV−). The statistical analysis was conducted using the Cox proportional hazards model. Results: The hazard ratio for the cumulative incidence of CIN3+ in 2 years relative to that for NILM cases was 2.7 (95% confidence interval=1.0–7.8) for > ASC-US cases, 0.5 (0.1–1.7) for ASC-US/HPV (unknown), 0.8 (0.3–2.4) for ASC-US/HPV+ cases, and 0.3 (0.1–1.0) for ASC-US/HPV− cases. Conclusion: Because the cumulative incidence of CIN3+ at 2 years for the ASC-US/HPV− cases was sufficiently low, compared with that of the NILM cases, we considered it reasonable and safe to perform HPV triage for ASC-US cases and to allow HPV-negative cases to return for their next screening in 2 years, which is the same follow-up schedule as that for NILM cases.

        한국산 날개응애류중에서 검둥이응애과(Caratodiidae)에 속하는 무늬검둥이응애 (Carabodes transversarius sp. n.)와 어깨점둥이응애 (C. tsushimaensis dorsalis subsp. n.)를 신종으로 기재하고 대마도 검둥이응애 (C. tsushimaensis Aoki, 1970)를 미기록종으로 기록하며 Caradodes속의“femoralis group”의 종검색표를 작성하였다. Two new species and one unrecorded species of Korean oribatid mites belonging to the genus Car-aboder C. L. Koch, 1836 (Carabodiidae) are described. They are C. transversarius sp. nov., C. tsu shimaensis dorsalis subsp. nov. and C. tsushimaensis Aoki, 1970. A Key to the species of“femoralis group”of the genus Caradodes is presented.

        韓國產 날개응애類(3) Defectamerus 屬의 新種에 關하여

        Defectamerus soonkii sp. nov. and D. crassisetiger coreanus subsp. nov. belonging to the family Ameridae are described. Key to the species of the genus Defectamerus Aoki is presented. 한국산(韓國産) Defectamerus속(屬)의 1 신종(新種), 1 신아종(新亞種) 및 종검색표(種檢索表)를 작성(作成)하였다. 신종(新種)은 순기민동정응애(D. soonkii sp. nov.)와 신아종(新亞種)으로 한국민동정응애(D. crassisetiger coreanus subsp. nov.)를 기재(記載)하였다.

        Hydrogen Absorption and Desorption in Ti-Al Alloys

        Binary Ti_(1-x)Al_x and ternary Ti_(.075-x)Al_(0.25)M_x (M=V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Pd, Hf, Ta and W; x=0.15 and 0.25) alloys reacted slowly with 5.0 ㎫ Hz at room temperature for different periods. The hydrogen absorption capacity, the 50% hydrogen desorption temperature (T_d) and the structures of their hydride were investigated. Amorphous and fcc type hydrides formed by hydrogenation of the binary Ti-Al alloys. As the Al concentration increased in the Ti-Al alloys, the hydrogen absorption capacity decreased, while the hydrogen desorption temperature decreased at once and then increased again. Amorphous, fcc, bcc and C14 Laves type hydrides formed by hydrogenation of the ternary Ti₃Al- based alloys. The hydrogen absorption capacity was reduced despite whatever elements were substituted for Ti in Ti₃Al. Ni, Co, Mn and Nb have the ability to reduce T_d of Ti_(.075-x)Al_(0.25)M_x.

        The Concept of the 'Launching State' Revisited

        Commercialization and privatization of outer space has been developing to the extent that public space law regime established at the UN seems to be somewhat incompatible with the today's commercial launching services. Thus, this paper analyzes, at first, the UN space treaties to specify the obstacles for promoting commercial use. The necessity of some covert amendment of UN treaties is suggested through the national space legislation. Then three state practices are examined to propose a new concept of the "launching state" including the Sea Launch project, since the concept of the "launching state" is of the major importance to enact an effective national act to better accommodate UN space treaties to the present necessity.

        어병세균의 약제내성

        어병 세균으로부터 분리된 R-plasmid의 특성과 그 DNA 구조는 Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida, Edwardsiella tarda, Enterococcus seriolicida, Pasteurella piscicida, Vibrio onguillarum등 세균의 종류에 따라 다르다. 그러나 A. hydrophila와 E. tarda로부터 그리고 A. hydrophila와 A. salmonicida로부터 분리된 몇몇 R-plasmid는 같은 내성형을 가지면서 유사한 DNA 구조를 보였다, V. anguillarum에서 분리된 R-plasmid는 1977년 이전, 1980년과 1983년 사이 그리고 1989년과 1991년 사이에 분리된 것이 그 DNA 구조에 차이를 보여 각각 그룹 1, 2, 3으로 구분되어졌다. P. piscicida의 경우에는 연도와 지역에 관계없이 동일한 DNA 구조를 갖는 R-plasmid가 분리되었다. Macrolide계 항생제(MLs), lincomycin(LM), tetracycline(TC) 그리고 MLs, LIM, chloramphenicol(CP) 내성을 나타내는 R-plasmid를 갖는 E. seriolicida가 각 지역의 Yellowtail 어장에 분포되어 있었다. P. piscicida의 R-plasmid에는 type I의 chloramphenicol acetyltransferase(CAT)에 의하여 CP 내성을 나타내는 유전자(cat)가, 그리고 E. tarda, A. salmonicida와 1980년 이후에 분리된 V. anguillarum의 R-plasmid에는 CAT type II에 해당하는 car 유전자가 분포되어 있었다. TC 내성 유전자(tet)의 경우에는 1977년 이전과 1980년 이후에 분리된 V. anguillarum으로부터 class B, G의 tet 유전자가 확인되었으나, E. tarda, P. piscicida, A. hydrophila 그리고 1989년 이후에 분리된 V. anguillarum등 어병세균의 R-plasmid에는 class D의 tet 유전자가 널리 분포하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. The properties and DNA structures of R plasmids differ depending on the species of the fish-pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida, Edwardsiella tarda, Enterococcus seriolicida, Pasteurella piscicida and Vibrio anguillarum. However, some R plasmids with the same resistance markers in similar DNA structures were found in A. hydrophila and E. tarda, as well as in A. hydrophila and A. salmonicida. R plasmids from V. anguillarum were classified into three groups according to their DNA structures. The first group was detected before 1977, the second from 1980 to 1983, and the third from 1989 to 1991. R plasmids have been retained within P. piscieida having the same DNA structures and detected at various locations and times. E. seriolicida strains carrying the same R plasmids, which were encoded with resistance to macrolide antibiotics(MLs), lincomycin(LIM), and TC, and to MLs, LIM, and CP. were distributed in yellowtail farms in various districts. The chloramphenicol-resistance(cat) gene of the R plasmids of P. piscicida was classified as CAT type I . The cat of the R plasmids of E, tarda. A. salmonicida was classified as type II. The cat of R plasmids of V. anguillarum was classified into two types. One type detected before 1977, was classified as CAT IV and the other type, detected after 1980, was classified as CAT II. Tetracycline-resistance (tet) V. anguillarum, isolated before 1977 and after 1981, was classified as Tet B and Tet G, respectively. The class D tet gene was widely distributed in R plasmids from fish-pathogens A. hydrophila, E. tarda, P. piscicida, and also V. anguillarum isolated after 1989.

      • Damage propagation in CFRP laminates subjected to low velocity impact and static indentation

        This paper describes a damage accumulation mechanism in cross-ply CFRP laminates $[0_2/90_2]_{2S}$ subjected to out-of-plane loading. Drop-weight impact and static indentation tests were carried out, and induced damage was observed by ultrasonic C-scan and an optical microscope. Both tests gave essentially the same results for damage modes, sizes, and load-deformation history. First, a crack occurred in the bottom $0^{\circ}$ layer accompanying some delamination along the crack caused by bending stress. Then, transverse cracks occurred in the middle $90^{\circ}$ layer with decreasing contact force between the specimen and the indenter. Measured local strains near the impact point showed that the stress state changed from a bending dominant state to an in-plane tensile dominant state. A cohesive interface element was used to simulate the propagation of multiple delaminations and transverse cracks under static indentation. Two types of analytical models are considered, one with multiple delaminations and the other with both multiple delaminations and transverse cracks. The damage obtained for the model with only multiple delaminations was quite different from that obtained from the experiment. However, the results obtained from the model with both delaminations and transverse cracks well explain the characteristics of the damage obtained in the experiment. The existence of the transverse cracks is essential to form the characteristic impact damage.

      • Evidence of Weak Decay of Heavy Double Hypernuclei

        We have studied 80 events of candidates for ??? capture star at rest in nuclear emulsion, where ??? hyperons are produced in (??????) reactions identified by a ?? spectrometer. The weak decay of heavy double hypernuclei is confirmed, studying the distribution of visible energy-release and the probability of emission of two fast protons, in comparison with those for single hypernuclei.
