        『율리시즈』제 4장과 칼립소 에피소드와의 대응관계

        As William Butler Yeats is one of the greatest modern English poet Ireland produced, James Joyce is one of the greatest modern English novelist born in Ireland. Yeats used the legends of Ireland as poetic material and established his own philosophical scheme with the help of his wife George Hyde Lees’s automatic writing. James Joyce used the legend of the ancient work as a base of his novel’s structure. In Ulysses, he used Homer’s Odyssey as a means of giving unity to the seemingly disorganized modern citizens’s lives. Joyce himself disclosed the scheme of Ulysses and all the chapters corresponded to the episodes in Homer’s Odyssey. Chapter 4 of Ulysses corresponds to the Calypso episode in Odyssey. Though the Calypso episode lasts 24 days and chapter 4 deals with the accidents happened in only 45 minutes, there are lots of parallels between the two stories. The relationship between Calypso and Odysseus parallels that of Bloom and his wife Molly. What Bloom does in that time parallels what Odysseus does during 24 days. In conclusion, we can safely say that Joyce adapted the Calypso episode very well to the modern Odysseus, Bloom and his adventure in the modern city, Dublin.

        In the long history of scholarly arguments on Henry IV, how to interpret the character of Falstaff and the rejection of him has been the decisive and much debated problem. In Henry IV, Falstaff has been one of important protagonists because he is non0realistic, made-up figure. As it is impossible to change official history, so it is important for a dramatist to created a imaginary character to reflect his own voice in history plays. The old historicism critics who focus on the role of Prince Halrelatively overlook the importance of that of Falstaff. Thery regard Falstaff as the old Vice figure of the morality plays. In here, Prince Hal is the prodigal prince. For example, Dover Wilson argues that Henry Ⅳ, 1 & Ⅱ dramatize the growth process to an ideal king of a reckless, madcap prince. There can be little doubt that Hal ought to banish Falstaff if he'll become the perfect king. The old historicism critics think Hal's rejection of Falstaff is inevitable and necessary action. C. L. Barber regards Falstaff as a Lord of Misrule in Saturnalian festival. He pays attention to the roled of scapegoat of Falstaff. He argues Falstaff is preselected as a scapegoat by Prince Hal. As a heir to the disordered kingdom of Henry Ⅳ, Prince Hal needs the symbol of purifying the corrupt state. By rejection of Falstaff, the divine ordination and sensibility of kingship is resorted. Defying the old historicism, confined only to single, linear political vision in a certain age, the New Historicism is concerned with the question of powe. According to new historicism critics, the constant production and containment of subversion are necessary in power relations. Falstaff represents the revels who challenge the ruling class. Prince Hal uses the rejection of Falstaff to reinforce the dominant power.

        미르찰 찹쌀가루의 수침기간에 따른 물리화학적 특성

        The physicochemical and structural characteristics of high­yield, tongil­ type mirchal glutinous rice, Milyang 328 (hereafter referred to as mirchal), were compared to those of a set of well-characterized glutinous rice varieties i.e., baegokchal, dongjinchal, and sinseonchal. The results revealed that mirchal exhibited the highest crude protein content (8.47%), water binding capacity (209.00%), and swelling power (55.82 g/g) under long term soaking. Analysis under identical conditions revealed that mirchal rice flour presented the minimum mean and median particle diameters of 50.54 μm and 22.72 μm, respectively, among the tested varieties. Furthermore, the particle diameter and onset temperature (To, 57.15℃) under these conditions were significantly lower than those under other conditions. The crystalline fraction of glutinous rice flour exhibited an A-type structure, irrespective of the soaking time. Mirchal exhibited the highest breakdown viscosity of 1,416.0 cP under short term soaking. The branch chain length distribution of the amylopectin A chain in the glutinous rice flours was arranged in the following sequence: baegokchal (30.82%) > mirchal (29.59%) > dongjinchal (28.74%) > sinseonchal (27.10%). The length distribution of the B1 chain in the glutious rice flours was arranged in the following sequence: dongjinchal (47.85%) > mirchal (47.17%) > baegokchal (45.83%) > sinseonchal (44.47%). Thus, this study revealed that mirchal possessed optimal processing characteristics owing to its high swelling power and excellent physicochemical properties, therby facilitating its application in the synthesis of yukwa and food processing materials.

        절단배추의 선도유지를 위한 절단 공정 개선

        To maintain the freshness and to prevent browning of cut Kimchi cabbages, the effect of the cutting process using a ceramic knife under N2 blowing on the quality of the cut Kimchi cabbages was investigated. Kimchi cabbages cut with a ceramic knife under N2 gas blowing conditions (NC) were stored at 5℃ for 7 days, and their weight reduction ratio and the browning degree and appearance were compared with those of the control treatment samples (OS; cut with a stainless steel knife under normal air, OC; cut with a ceramic knife under normal air). The weight reduction ratios were 0.07∼0.13%, and the NC treatment showed the lowest reduction ratio among all the treatments (p<0.05). The Hunter L values increased, but the a and b values decreased after 5-day storage in all the treatments. The NC treatment had higher L values but lower a and b values than the OS and OC treatments. The browning degrees by Hunter color value, PPO activity, and appearances were the least in the NC treatment (p<0.05). The cutting process with a ceramic knife under N2 blowing could be applied to the cutting of vegetable products and for minimal fruit processing.

        예이츠의 「소금쟁이」에 관한 한 고찰

        예이츠가 만년에 쓴 「소금쟁이」는 짦은 단편이지만, 시인의 동양사상 및 ‘존재의 통합’에 관한 생각을 집약적으로 보여주는 작품이다. 동양사상과 마스크 이론 및 ‘존재의 통합’ 이론은 예이츠 사상의 핵심이라고 할 수 있다. 이 작품에서는 전투를 앞두고 눈앞에 지도를 펼쳐놓은 채 명상에 잠겨 있는 시저, 트로이의 헬렌이 춤추는 모습, 시스틴 성당의 천지창조 그림을 그리는 미켈란제로를 예로 들어 위대한 창조의 순간을 보여줌으로써 예이츠가 자신의 주된 사상을 보여주고 있다. “Long-legged Fly,” which was written in Yeats’s old age, is a short poem, but shows the poet’s thought of the Oriental thoughts and the Unity of Being. The Oriental Thoughts, Mask Theory, and the theory of Unity of Being are Yeats’s central ideas which he developed throughout his poetic career. This poem exemplifies the great moments of creation with Caesar, Helen of Troy, and Michael Angelo. Caesar is in his tent contemplating with a map spread on the desk. Helen of Troy practices a dance whithout thinking any other thing but the dance. Michael Angelo exerts with all his might and mind on the painting. At those moments the three persons accomplished a kind of nirvana which is almost the same state as the Unity of Being.

        Highly efficient in-line wet cyclone air sampler for airborne virus detection

        Early detection of highly pathogenic strains is particularly important from the point of view of controlling and minimizing the spread of the virus. Wherein, the sampling of infectious virus from air is a crucial step for effective pandemic disease diagnosis. However, most of the air samplers required long sampling time and real time virus analysis is not possible. Hence, the present work we report design and development of in-line virus detection system by adopting newly designed wet cyclone air sampler. An in line airborne virus detection system composed of preseparator and wet cyclone type impactor for air sampling, fluidics system, and virus sensing platform. All virus detection processes, such as sampling of air, hydration, delivery, and immunoassay were carried out on a single system without any preor post-sample treatment. Prior to virus detection, the collection efficiency @ 1000 L/min is tested with PSL particles and is observed that the air sampler efficiency for 1 µm AD is about 50 %, 1.5 µm AD is 78.3 %. And for the large size PSL the observed collection efficiency is about 100 %. Further, it is observed that, the developed system is capable of efficient collection of airborne viral pathogens such as H1N1 and H3N2.

        當歸의 건조방법 및 뿌리 부위에 따른 품질 평가

        Objectives : This study was carried out to evaluate the quality of different drying methods and different roots(primary root and lateral root) of Angelica gigas Nakai. Methods : The experimental method was performed according to the Korea Pharmacopoea Eleventh edition (KP11). Loss on drying, ash, acid insoluble ash, ethanol extract, nodakenin and total decursin contents were tested to evaluate the quality of root tissue of Angelica gigas Nakai. In addition, the treatment of different root parts were prepared in two groups of washing dry process and natural dry process. Results : In comparison of dry processing methods, total contents of nodakenin and total decursin in the primary root and lateral root through washing dry process were ranged from 3.55 to 4.09% and from 5.18 to 6.13%, respectively. And also, those of roots from the natural dry process were from 4.36 to 6.22% and from 6.28 to 8.34%, respectively. In the washing dry process and natural dry process methods, 47.9% and 22.3% higher amount of nodakenin and total decursin were measured in lateral root compared to primary root. In common, lateral roots accumulated higher contents of nodakenin and total decursin compared to primary roots, and samples drying processed with natural dry process compared to washing dry process method contained higher amount of compounds. Conclusions : We sincerely hope that this study will be contributed to the standardization and quality control of Angelica Gigas Root.

        초다수성벼 밀양356호 발아현미의 발아일수에 따른 이화학적 특성 및 유리아미노산 함량

        We investigated the germination rate, color values, physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, and amino acid content of germinated brown rice varieties (milyang356, nampyeong, and dasan), and their statistical correlation were analyzed. Milyang356 rice was characterized by the highest germination percentage and total color difference value (3.89) at 24 h. In all varieties, the amylose and crude protein content increased on the 1st day of germination but decreased over time (p<0.05). The paste viscosity value significantly decreased over time in all varieties. DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities decreased or increase over time depending on the variety. By contrast, the total phenol and flavonoid content increased with time in all varieties. Furthermore, the total free amino acid and GABA content increased gradually with the germination time. The essential amino acid content was highest on day 3 of germination in milyang356 (276.9 mg/100 g) and dasan varieties (344.1 mg/100 g). The total phenol content showed a negative correlation with L* value (r=-0.778) and a strong positive correlation with ∆E (r=0.927). Considering its paste viscosity, and high essential amino acid and GABA content, we conclude that germinated brown rice milyang356 is suitable as a functional medical material, such as a health supplement.
