A novel porous scaffold designed for application as a bone substitute, with a structure containing three-dimensional (3D)pore channels in a hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold, was fabricated using a combination of a solid freeform fabrication (SFF)and cast in a mold using freezing casting method. This study was performed to evaluate the physical and biomechanical properties of the HA scaffolds fabricated by SFF and using polymer replication method (PRM), one of the conventional methods. Although the phase composition and porosity of these two scaffolds are similar, their external shape and mechanical property were different. All of the fabricated scaffolds showed similar patterns through X-ray diffraction. The difference between porosities of two HA scaffolds were not statistically significant (P>0.05). However, the average compressive strength of the scaffold fabricated by SFF was 14.6 MPa, and that of the scaffold fabricated using polymer replication was 3.56MPa (P<0.05). It was confirmed that SFF fabrication could have a relatively higher mechanical property than PRM fabrication at the same porosity.

The aim of this study was to predict and map the regional distribution of the trabecular architecture and the material properties of the glenoid and to estimate the predominant loading condition on the glenoid through the mapping. The morphological and material characteristics of the glenoid were investigated by analyzing digitized trabecular bone images obtained from twelve cadaver scapula specimens. The morphological and material characteristics computed from the cadaver specimens show that the predominant loading on the glenoid generally occurs during shoulder movement, which produces forces directed toward the posterior aspect of the bare region. This study is innovative in its detailed mapping of the morphological and material characteristics of the glenoid and its pioneering approach used to estimate the loading pattern acting on the glenoid through the mapping.

An improved double-cylinder hammer-driven sampling device was designed to extract undisturbed soil cores. The improvements consist of 1) separation of hammer from the driving head, 2) a split inside cylinder, and 3) a plastic sample holder. Pushing the sampler deep into the soil before hammering would result in less compression of the sample. Core samples should be taken in soils of medium moisture content. The improved soil core sampler provides sufficiently accurate volumetric soil samples with original soil layers and soil cores of 40㎝ in length and 5㎝ in diameter.

Since 2014, Gyeonggi-do has developed the DDABOK Community Project to forge a unified supporting system for its policies concerning both local community and social economy. For the development of the DDABOK Community Project, it is useful to examine regional cases in each sector. The purpose of this study is therefore to analyze the operating factors among numerous cases of the local community and social economy in Gyeonggi-do. Although the Maeul Community and social economy share some similarities, each project shows different implications and operational mechanisms. For effective promotion of business, it is necessary to identify the similarities and differences in local community and social economy through case study research. Based on sixteen regional cases examined in this study, we derive some crucial factors such as voluntary participation, governance, and community-based business. This study would provide several policy implications for the success of the DDABOK Community Project.
