        Heat Processing Decreases Amadori Products and Increases Total Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Activity of Korean Red Ginseng

        The functional properties of Korean red ginseng (KRG) are known to be dependent upon the extent of heat processing. We demonstrated that repeated heat processing in the preparation of KRG decreased its arginyl-fructosyl-glucose (AFG) content and metal chelating capacity. On the other hand, the total phenolic compound content, in vitro peroxyl radical scavenging ability, and cellular peroxyl and hydroxyl radical scavenging ability increased with repeated heat processing. The peroxyl radical scavenging ability of KRG may be due to the total phenolic compound content. The hydroxyl radical scavenging ability of KRG seems to result mainly from the chelating ability of Amadori compounds such as arginyl-fructose and AFG. The protective ability of KRG against Cu2+-induced oxidative stress in hepatoma HepG2 cells may be due to permeability into the cell membrane rather than antioxidant activity. These results can be used to predict the physiological functions of KRG in in vivo models.

        장중첩증을 초래한 소아의 회장 고등급 MALT 림프종: 1예 보고

        소아에서 림프종은 백혈병과 중추신경계 종양에 이어 세번째로 많은 종양이다. 소아연령에서 발생한 비호지킨 림프종은 성인의 림프종과는 달리 임파절 이외의 침범이 흔하며 호발 부위로는 위장관, 신장, 췌장을 포함하는 복부이고 그 다음이 두경부 순이다. 성인에서는 위장관에 생기는 림프종의 상당수가 림프절에 생기는 림프종과는 다른 MALT (mucosa associated lymphoid tissue) 림프종 소견을 보이는 것으로 알려져 있으며 소장의 MALT 림프종의 보고는 많으나 소아의 소장에서 문헌상 보고된 것은 드물다. 우리는 최근 9세 된 남아의 회장에 발생한 고등급 MALT림프종이 장중첩을 일으킨 1예를 경험하였기에 초음파 및 전산화단층소견을 보고 하고자 한다. Lymphoma is the third most common childhood malignancy after leukemia and brain tumor. In contrast to adult non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, that occurring in children is usually found extranodally. The most common site is the abdomen, including the gastrointestinal tract, kidney and pancreas, and the next most common is the extranodal head and neck. Gastrointestinal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in adults is usually considered to be MALT lymphoma, a distinct B-cell type, but the occurrence of this variety in the small bowel of children is relatively rare. We report a case of high-grade MALT lymphoma occurring in a nine-year-old boy who presented with ileoileal intussusception.

        미숙아에서 발생한 중추신경계 칸디다증의 초음파와 자기공명영상 소견: 2예 보고

        중추신경계 칸디다증 (candidiasis)은 비교적 드문 질환으로 다른 진균 감염과 마찬가지로 주로 면역기능이 저하된 환자에서 발생한다. 최근 항생제의 빈번한 사용과 신생아 집중치료술의 발달로 면역기능의 발달이 미약한 극소체중아의 생존율이 증가되어 미숙아의 전신성 진균 감염과 이에 따른 중추신경계 칸디다증이 늘어나는 추세이다 저자는 미숙아에서 발생한 2예의 중추 신경계 칸디다증을 뇌 초음파와 자기공명영상과 함께 보고하고자 한다 Candidiasis of the central nervous system (CNS) is a rare condition and like other opportunistic fungal infecttions, most commonly occurs in immune-compromised patients. Because of the increasing use of antibiotics and the improving survival rate of premature infants requiring intensive care, the incidence of fungal infecttions in the brain has increased. We report the findings of ultrasonography and MR imaging in two cases of candidiasis of the CNS in premature infants.

        Potential Mechanism of Kaempferol against Cu2+-induced Oxidative Stress through Chelating Activity and Regulation of Nuclear Factorerythroid- 2-related Factor 2 Signaling

        Metal ions play important roles in various biological processes of living systems. However, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is also closely linked with the participation of redox-active metal ions such as copper,iron, chromium, and cobalt ions. Excessive production of ROS by redox-active metal ions can cause oxidative stress and further oxidative stress-related diseases. This study shows the results of the antioxidant activity of kaempferol in both ORACOH· and Cu2+-treated HepG2 cells. Preventive mechanism of kaempferol in Cu2+-treated HepG2 cells is also elucidated. These results suggest that both cellular Cu2+-chelating activity and expression of phase II detoxifying enzymes such as HO-1 and GSTA2 through activating Nrf2 are required for cellular antioxidant activity of kaempferol in Cu2+-treated HepG2 cells. Our findings provide the scientific evidence for the development of Nrf2targeting dietary antioxidant to prevent oxidative stressrelated conditions.

        Curcumin Ameliorates AAPH-induced Oxidative Stress in HepG2 Cells by Activating Nrf2

        In this study, 3 major curcuminoids were analyzed and the cellular anti-oxidant activities of E-TE(K)and E-TE(M) were assessed in HepG2 cells. The contributions and molecular targets of the 3 curcuminoids in the anti-oxidant activities of E-TE(K) and E-TE(M)were revealed. The curcuminoids including curcumin (CCM) was the most abundant curcuminoid [10.7% of ETE(K) and 17.5% of E-TE(M)] and the curcuminoid content, particularly CCM, was crucial for anti-oxidant activities of E-TE(K) and E-TE(M). The anti-oxidant activity of CCM involved the regulation of Nrf2, the central transcriptional factor for expression of phase II detoxifying enzymes such as heme oxygenase-1. The CCM-activated Nrf2 was shown to be regulated by the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Taken together, the results indicate that the activation of Nrf2 through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway is required for anti-oxidant activity of CCM. These findings provide the scientific evidence for the development of Nrf2 targeted dietary anti-oxidant.

        Changes of Ginsenoside Compositions in Cultivated Wild Ginseng with Different Steaming Temperatures and Time

        This study was conducted to investigate changes in the ginsenoside compositions of cultivated wild ginseng caused by steaming at different temperatures (95, 117, 126, and 132℃) and times (10, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110, and 130 min). On increasing steaming temperatures from 95 to 132℃, levels of protopanaxadiol (PPD) ginsenosides Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5 increased from 0.69, 1.11, and 1.79 mg/g to 4.08, 5.16, and 8.98 mg/g, respectively, whereas levels of protopanaxatriol (PPT) ginsenosides Re, Rf, Rg6, F4, Rk3, and Rh4 increased from 2.04, 0.79, 0.53, 0.77, 0.53, and 0.52 mg/g to 2.44, 2.50, 1.83, 2.74, 1.39, and 1.72 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, amounts of total PPD ginsenosides and total ginsenosides increased on increasing temperature, and total PPT ginsenoside amounts peaked at 126℃. In addition, when the steaming time was increased from 10 to 70 min, amounts of PPD ginsenosides Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5 increased 2.06, 1.90, and 1.89-fold, respectively, and amounts of PPT ginsenosides Rf, Rg6, F4, Rk3, and Rh4 increased 1.22, 1.44, 1.66, 1.61, and 1.95-fold, respectively. However, levels of total PPT ginsenosides and total ginsenosides peaked at a steaming time of 10 min.

        DEA를 이용한 농협 하나로 마트 경영성과분석 - 충청남도 공주시, 서산시, 아산시, 천안시를 중심으로 -

        본 연구는 DEA 분석과 MPI 분석을 통해 충청남도 공주시, 서산시, 아산시, 천안시의 2012년~2016년 농협 하나로 마트의 48곳을 대상으로 생산성과 효율성을 분석하였다. 투입변수는 매장규모(), 종사직원수, POS 대, 주차차량수를 선정하였다. 산출변수는 고객수와 총매출액(백만원)을 활용하였다. 분석결과 기술 효율성(TE)는 전체적으로 하락하고 있다. 순수 기술 효율성(PTE)의 경우 기술 효율성이 1인 DMU는 47.9%로 나타났지만 전체 평균으로 볼 때 5년간 평균 순수 비효율성이 모두 10%이상으로 나타났다. 즉, 동일 하나로 마트에서도 순수 기술 효율성의 차이가 있음이 나타났다. 규모 효율성(SE)의 경우 2012년, 2014년, 2015년에 모두 비효율성이 10% 이상으로 나타났으며 MPI 값은 2013년 이후로 지속적으로 증가하고 있으나 기술 변화지수(TCI)의 경우 기하평균이 0.9829로 저조하게 나타났고 그 분포가 불규칙하여 생산성 향상을 위해서는 기술 변화지수(TCI)의 증가가 필요할 것으로 보여진다. This study analyzed the productivity and efficiency of 48 sites in Gongju, Seosan, Asan, Cheonan, Chungcheongnam - do from 2012 to 2016 through DEA ​​analysis and MPI analysis. Input variables were store size (), number of employees, number of POS , and number of parking vehicles. The number of customers and total sales (KRW in millions) were used for the variables. As a result of the analysis, technical efficiency(TE) is declining overall. In the case of pure technology efficiency(PTE), DMU with 1 technology efficiency was 47.9%, but average average net inefficiency over 5 years was over 10%. In other words, there was a difference in pure technology efficiency in the same Hanaro Mart. In the case of scale efficiency(SE), inefficiency was more than 10% in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and the MPI value continued to increase since 2013, but the geometric mean of the technology change index(TCI) 0.9829, and the distribution is irregular, so it is necessary to increase the TCI to improve productivity.

        입지적 변화에 따른 농협 하나로 마트의 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 요인분석

        In Chungcheongnamdo, competitors such as department stores, large-scale marts, and SSMs are emerging due to the launch of Nippo New City and Sejong Special Municipality. In addition, it is urgent to maximize the management efficiency of existing Hanaro Mart, as the existing distribution structure changes in the study area. The study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the management performance of 48 Hanol Mart in Nonghyup, Gongju, Seosan, Asan and Cheonan in Chungcheongnamdo using Analytic Hierarchy Process. Priority analysis results and easiness of walking use 0.137, convenience of parking space 0.080, image of the store and cleanliness 0.778, convenience of use of public transportation (subway, bus, etc.) 0.072, product differentiation 0.065, distribution of Hanaro Mart stores by region 0.047, and the overall ease of travel with Mart was 0.437. In terms of ease of use, ease of use of public transportation(subways, buses, etc.), distribution of Hanaro Mart stores by region, and convenience of mobility with overall shopping mall, It is seen as a related problem. Based on the results of the analysis, we suggest suggestions and improvement plans to utilize Hanaro Mart as basic data for efficient and rational operation and planning.
