In this study, yeast cell immobilization was carried out in a packed bed reactor (PBR) to investigate the effects of the volumetric capacity of carriers as well as the different fermentation modes on fuel ethanol production. An optimal volumetric capacity of 10 g/l was found to obtain a high cell concentration. The productivity of immobilized cell fermentation was 16% higher than that of suspended-cell fermentation in batch and it reached a higher value of 4.28 g/l/h in repeated batches. Additionally, using this method, the ethanol yield (95.88%) was found to be higher than that of other tested methods due to low concentrations of residual sugars and free cells. Continuous ethanol production using four bioreactors showed a higher productivity (9.57 g/l/h) and yield (96.96%) with an ethanol concentration of 104.65 g/l obtained from 219.42 g/l of initial total sugar at a dilution rate of 0.092 h-1. Furthermore, we reversed the substrate-feed flow directions in the in-series bioreactors to keep the cells at their highest activity and to extend the length of continuous fermentation. Our study demonstrates an effective method of ethanol production with a new immobilized approach, and that by switching the flow directions, traditional continuous fermentation can be greatly improved, which could have practical and broad implications in industrial applications.

Qingguo Shao,Hao Qi,Chao Li,Kunpeng Cai,Jianxia Dong,Xuhui Liu,Ning Cao,Xiaobei Zang 대한금속·재료학회 2023 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.19 No.2
By combing the carrier mobility of graphene with the excellent light absorption properties of silicon, ultra-shallow Schottkyjunction can be obtained, and can exist stably for a long time. The photoelectric property of Schottky junction is determinednot only by graphene and silicon semiconductor layer, but also by the interface layer between the two. Through a series ofoptimizations, the performance of graphene/silicon Schottky junction photodetectors can be continuously improved. Asa result, graphene/silicon Schottky junctions more promising for the development of next generation photodetectors withits stability, ease of preparation and sensitivity. In this review, we firstly give a brief introduction to Gr Schottky junctionphotodetectors, and then present a comprehensive review on the recent progress of optimizing Gr/Si Schottky junction photodetectorsin the past few years, including light management engineering, band engineering and interfacial engineering. Finally, the current challenges are summarized and further perspectives are outlined.

Liu, Juan,Xu, Yangrong,Yang, Jingjing,Wang, Wenzhi,Zhang, Jianqiang,Zhang, Renmei,Meng, Qingguo The Korean Society of Ginseng 2017 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.41 No.3
Ocotillol-type saponins are one kind of tetracyclic triterpenoids, sharing a tetrahydrofuran ring. Natural ocotillol-type saponins have been discovered in Panax quinquefolius L., Panax japonicus, Hana mina, and Vietnamese ginseng. In recent years, the semisynthesis of 20(S/R)-ocotillol-type saponins has been reported. The biological activities of ocotillol-type saponins include neuroprotective effect, antimyocardial ischemia, antiinflammatory, antibacterial, and antitumor activities. Owing to their chemical structure, pharmacological actions, and the stereoselective activity on antimyocardial ischemia, ocotillol-type saponins are subjected to extensive consideration. In this review, we sum up the discovery, semisynthesis, biological activities, and metabolism of ocotillol-type saponins.
Dynamic response of curvilinearly stiffened plates under thermal environment
Jingze Liu,Qingguo Fei,Shaoqing Wu,Dahai Zhang,Dong Jiang 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.6
An improved finite element modeling method is developed for isotropic curvilinearly stiffened plates under a thermal environment. The existing modeling method for curvilinearly stiffened plates avoids the difficulty of node overlap, which is suitable for plates with different thicknesses. By introducing the influence of temperature on material parameters and thermal stress on additional stiffness, the existing method is improved and extended to the study of thermodynamics. The proposed method is verified by modal test at normal temperature and commercial finite element software at the thermal environment. The variation of dynamic characteristics with temperature under different boundary conditions was studied. Results show that when the boundary conditions are asymmetric, the influence of temperature on the thermal mode shape is more significant than the case of symmetrical.

Ginseng has been used as a popular herbal medicine in East Asia for at least two millennia. However, 20(R)-ginseng saponins, one class of important rare ginsenosides, are rare in natural products. 20(R)-ginseng saponins are generally prepared by chemical epimerization and microbial transformation from 20(S)-isomers. The C20 configuration of 20(R)-ginseng saponins are usually determined by 13C NMR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. 20(R)-ginseng saponins have antitumor, antioxidative, antifatigue, neuroprotective, and osteoclastogenesis inhibitory effects, among others. Owing to the chemical structure and pharmacological and stereoselective properties, 20(R)-ginseng saponins have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. In this study, the discovery, identification, chemical epimerization, microbial transformation, pharmacological activities, and metabolism of 20(R)-ginseng saponins are summarized.

In this work, a fibrous bed bioreactor with high specific surface area and good adsorption efficacy for S. cerevisiae cells was used as the immobilization matrix in the production of ethanol. In batch fermentation, an optimal ethanol concentration of 91.36 g/l and productivity of 4.57 g l-1 h-1 were obtained at an initial sugar concentration of 200 g/l. The ethanol productivity achieved by the immobilized cells was 41.93% higher than that obtained from free cells. Ethanol production in a 22-cycle repeated batch fermentation demonstrated the enhanced stability of the immobilized yeast cells. Under continuous fermentation in packed-bed reactors, a maximum ethanol concentration of 108.14 g/l and a productivity of 14.71 g l-1 h-1 were attained at 35oC, and a dilution rate of 0.136 h-1 with 250 g/l glucose.

Combustion Simulation of Variable Altitude Turbocharged Diesel Engine Using SVM
Jing Qi,Luo Qingguo,Gui Yong,Liu Hongbin 한국자동차공학회 2021 International journal of automotive technology Vol.22 No.4
The combustion characteristics of a turbocharged diesel engine in a plateau environment have always been a focus of research on diesel engine power recovery. However, the influence of altitude on the empirical parameters of the combustion model has rarely been addressed in the literature. This paper presents a zero-dimensional combustion modeling method based on support vector machine (SVM). Taking a diesel engine as an example, the heat release rate data under different working conditions were measured on the test bench of a diesel engine at variable altitude. An SVM model was constructed and trained to predict the empirical parameters of the combustion model under varying altitude conditions, and the working process of the diesel engine was simulated. The results show that the working process simulation model with SVM prediction has better predictability. When the altitude increases, the average cylinder pressure and maximum pressure both decrease, the cylinder temperature and maximum temperature both increase, the combustion start point lags, and the combustion duration increases.
