        Enhancing eigenvalue approximation with Bank--Weiser error estimators

        In this paper we propose a way of enhancing eigenvalue approximations with the Bank--Weiser error estimators for the $P1$ and $P2$ conforming finite element methods of the Laplace eigenvalue problem. It is shown that we can achieve two extra orders of convergence than those of the original eigenvalue approximations when the corresponding eigenfunctions are smooth and the underlying triangulations are strongly regular. Some numerical results are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the enhanced eigenvalue approximations.

        생명복제 시대의 기독교 윤리 방법론

        기독교 윤리의 전통적 방법론 가운데 가장 대표적인 것은 연역적 접근 방식이었다. 이 방법론은 선의 규정이 ‘이미 정해진’ 형태로서, 전제에 결론이 포함된 형식을 취하였다. 이러한 방식은 주로 성서의 율법주의 형태를 취한다. 이 방법론은 무조건적인 명령의 형식을 취하기 때문에 현대 기독교 윤리를 적용하는데 무리가 있어 다른 방법론으로서 귀납적 방법론을 필요로 하게 되었다. 귀납적 방법론은 다양한 논의와 과정을 통해 결론을 추론하는 것으로서 연역적 방법론과는 달리 논의 과정에서 나타나는 여러 가지 사례들을 중요시하게 된다. 그 후 기독교 방법론은 이 두 방법론의 한계를 극복하기 위해 새로운 상황윤리를 받아들인다. 상황윤리는 ‘하나님의 사랑’의 실천이 궁극적 목적이었고 선규정적 방식에서 벗어나 다양한 상황에서 나타나는 사례들을 추론하여 윤리적 논의의 과정을 거치는 방법론이었다. 그러나 이 방법론 또한 일반적 도덕 원칙을 무너뜨릴 수 있다는 한계를 극복하지 못하여 상충적이고 반성적인 추론 방법론을 요청하게 되었다. 상충적이고 반성적인 추론 방법론은 상황윤리의 한계를 지적하고 일반적인 도덕원칙과 개별적인 사례들을 접목시키는 듯 했다. 하지만 이 방법론은 개인의 ‘배경이론’을 끌어들이면서 한계를 드러낸다. 개인의 배경이론은 이미 선해석학적 틀에 제한될 뿐만 아니라 이미 판단자에게 내재된 문화, 종교 및 가치관이 학습되어 윤리적 판단을 하기 때문에 연역적 방법론으로 회기할 가능성이 농후하다. 특히 예측불가능한 생명공학 시대에 접어들어 위의 다양한 방법론들과 상충적이고도 반성적 추론 방법론이 또 다른 위기를 맞이하게 된다. 따라서 이 글에서는 위에서 살펴본 다양한 방법론의 한계와 새로운 생명공학 시대에 적절한 방법론으로서 책임윤리를 제시하게 되고, 더 나아가 공동체의 성숙한 책임과 덕 윤리를 제시하고자 한다. The traditional method of Christian Ethics was typically deductive approach. It was about the method when ‘already given’ sumption is true, its consequential result was also found true. With the Christian Ethics methodology, because it talks about ethical issues came out of the Bible and rabbinism, a certain approach or method was already in its original sumption. Such a deductive method was not appropriate for further debate nor discussion to deal with as a Christian Ethics method. On this premise, the next generation including myself comes up with an inductive approach. As we agree, the inductive method draws a result out of various debate and process. Unlike deductive one, because it leads to a certain result through variety of possible experiments, it is good enough to debate Christian Ethics by a certain situation and context. Soon afterward, it is expected that deductive method and inductive approach might go for mutual compliment, so-called acceptance of “Situation Ethics.” It can deal with ethical issues in the midst of various situation through which can lead to an ultimate ‘Love.’ Albeit this method is seeking for the realization of love, it has a limit that in the process, the ethical subject might miss considered moral judgment. As an alternative to this, a reflective reasoning method is needed. Like the situation ethics, this reflective method is similar with the former in that a certain ethical principle was established through specific cases and individual situation. However, the reflective reasoning is a bit different in that it asks for rigid matching or conformity. In spite of this difference, the reflective reasoning method has a limit, so as to speak, considered moral judgment. Because ethical judgment, unlike the scientific common sense, is largely related to inherent prejudice, personal background, and religious belief, it is likely to incline for excessive bias based on the I-centered perspective. Seen above, many problems and limits were found in inductive, deductive, situation ethics, and reflective methods. In this bio-technological age, unpredictable issues in ethics came from all kinds of experiments dealing with human life is inadequate to debate the issues of traditional ethics. For this reason, we have to seek a new ethical theory that is beyond established one, it also asks for a responsibility ethics in other words, the ethics of virtue and mercy. The former one is an ethical theory comes from mature community dealing with caring people with mercy. The latter is a new theory appropriate for bio-technology age. By the rapid development of bio-technology industry causing so many unpredictable issues, it is asked for a responsibility ethics model even in Christian perspective bioethics. ‘Responsibility Ethics’ is a theory to reflect the current ethical issues such as unpredictable embryonic stem cells, gene testing etc. With regard these issues, it is expected that an age will come in which virtue and/or mercy-centered ethics with responsibility is desperately needed.

        알코올 유발 간 손상 마우스 모델에서 자금정의 간 보호 효과

        Objectives : This study investigated the hepatoprotective effects effects of Jageum-jung extract on alcohol- induced liver disease mice model. Methods : Alcoholic liver disease was induced by Ethanol in C57/BL6 male mice, which were fed Lieber−DeCarli liquid diet containing ethanol. Jageum-jung (100,200 and 300 mg/kg bw/day) were orally administered daily in the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice for 16 days. Results : The results indicate that Jageum-jung promotes hepatoprotective effects by significantly reducing aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) levels as indicators of liver damage in the serum. Furthermore, Jageum-jung decreased accumulation of triglyceride and total cholesterol, increased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in the serum of the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice model. Additionally, it improved the serum alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity. Conclusions : This study confirmed the anti-oxidative and hangover elimination effects of Jageum-jung extract, and suggests the possibility of using Jageum-jung to treat alcholic liver disease.

        A Novel Homozygous LIPA Mutation in a Korean Child with Lysosomal Acid Lipase Deficiency

        Patients with lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) deficiency and glycogen storage disease (GSD) demonstrated hep-atomegaly and dyslipidemia. In our case, a 6-year-old boy presented with hepatosplenomegaly. At 3 years of age, GSD had been diagnosed by liver biopsy at another hospital. He showed elevated serum liver enzymes and dyslipidemia. Liver biopsy revealed diffuse microvesicular fatty changes in hepatocytes, septal fibrosis and foamy macrophages. Ultrastructural examination demonstrated numerous lysosomes that contained lipid material and in-tracytoplasmic cholesterol clefts. A dried blood spot test revealed markedly decreased activity of LAL. LIPA gene sequencing identified the presence of a novel homozygous mutation (p.Thr177Ile). The patient’s elevated liver en-zymes and dyslipidemia improved with enzyme replacement therapy. This is the first report of a Korean child with LAL deficiency, and our findings suggest that this condition should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chil-dren with hepatosplenomegaly and dyslipidemia.
