유아 연령에 따른 블록 놀이 운영 실태 차이 연구 = Study on differences in block play management for different ages ofchildren in early childhood settings

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the way in which block play areas are operated according to the ages of the children in early childhood classrooms. It analyzes block play in terms of children’s developmental interests and teacher’s encouragement of free exploration as well as their use of resources and suggested activities to expand children’s interests and capabilities. In conclusion, the study suggests age-related appropriate activities integrating block play with cognitive, academic and social skills and basic resources all of which should improve the popularity of block play among children. For this purpose, a survey form was developed to gather and analyze data from 207 teachers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. Analysis of the survey found that the block play sessions operated in rather different manners according to the age of the students. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that it is necessary to expand teachers’ interests in and understanding of block play, including imaginative free exploration and teacher-guided explorations in order to make block play activities more meaningful learning experiences for children. The study recommends developing teacher training programs in the educational value of block play.
