        The Phylogenetic Analysis of Camellia sinensis cv. Longjing 43

        In the recent years, researches in phylogeny and evolution based on the chloroplast genome attracted more and more attentions. The entire chloroplast genome of 13 species of typical core eudicots including Camellia sinensis cv. Longjing 43 was compared to analyze the genetic relationship in this study. 3 different methods were used to buildParsimony method. All the results showed that Longjing 43 and Ardisia polysticta have a closer relationship, with 100% support. Further researches should be done and more factors should be considered in phylogenetic analysis based on the complete chloroplast genome.

        Cardanol with a Covalently Attached Organophosphate Moiety as a Halogen-Free, Intrinsically Flame-Retardant PVC Bio-Plasticizer

        Plasticizers that enable flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are usually combustible, restricting the application ofPVC in fire-prone scenarios. In this context, intrinsically flame-retardant plasticizers displaying dual function continue to bethe focus of intensive research. Despite their efficiency, the majority of these dual-functional plasticizers previously reportedcontain halogen elements, which, once ignited, emanate toxic and potentially carcinogenic substances, along with toxic gasesand smoke, polluting the environment, damaging the biota, and threatening human health. Here, we report a strategy to obtaina halogen-free, intrinsically flame-retardant PVC bio-plasticizer that harnesses the phenolic hydroxyl of naturally occurringcardanol and covalent attachment of an organophosphate moiety. When combined with di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DOP),the organophosphate-containing cardanol is qualified as a co-plasticizer, while endowing the PVC materials with flameretardancy. Unlike inorganic flame-retardants, the engineered cardanol is compatible with PVC such that the mechanicalproperties of the PVC materials are not compromised. The rationale underlying the present effort may provide guidance fordeveloping sustainable alternatives to halogen-containing plasticizers to address the sustainability challenge now confrontingPVC industry.

        EMR: An effective method for monitoring and warning of rock burst hazard

        Rock burst may cause serious casualties and property losses, and how to conduct effective monitoring and warning is the key to avoid this disaster. In this paper, we reviewed both the rock burst mechanism and the principle of using electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from coal rock to monitor and forewarn rock burst, and systematically studied EMR monitored data of 4 rock bursts of Qianqiu Coal Mine, Yima Coal Group, Co. Ltd. Results show that (1) Before rock burst occurrence, there is a breeding process for stress accumulation and energy concentration inside the coal rock mass subject to external stresses, which causes it to crack, emitting a large amount of EMR; when the EMR level reaches a certain intensity, which reveals that deformation and fracture inside the coal rock mass have become serious, rock burst may occur anytime and it's necessary to implement an early warning. (2) Monitored EMR indicators such as its intensity and pulses amount are well and positively correlated before rock bursts occurs, generally showing a rising trend for more than 5 continuous days either slowly or dramatically, and the disaster bursts generally occurs at the lower level within 48 h after reaching its peak intensity. (3) The rank of EMR signals sensitive to rock burst in a descending order is maximum EMR intensity > rate of change in EMR intensity > maximum amount of EMR pulses > rate of change in the amount of EMR pulses.

        Characteristic Changes in Decidual Gene Expression Signature in Spontaneous Term Parturition

        Background: The decidua has been implicated in the “terminal pathway” of human term parturition, which is characterized by the activation of pro-inflammatory pathways in gestational tissues. However, the transcriptomic changes in the decidua leading to terminal pathway activation have not been systematically explored. This study aimed to compare the decidual expression of developmental signaling and inflammation-related genes before and after spontaneous term labor in order to reveal their involvement in this process. Methods: Chorioamniotic membranes were obtained from normal pregnant women who delivered at term with spontaneous labor (TIL, n = 14) or without labor (TNL, n = 15). Decidual cells were isolated from snap-frozen chorioamniotic membranes with laser microdissection. The expression of 46 genes involved in decidual development, sex steroid and prostaglandin signaling, as well as pro- and anti-inflammatory pathways, was analyzed using high-throughput quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Chorioamniotic membrane sections were immunostained and then semi-quantified for five proteins, and immunoassays for three chemokines were performed on maternal plasma samples. Results: The genes with the highest expression in the decidua at term gestation included insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 (IGFBP1), galectin-1 (LGALS1), and progestogen-associated endometrial protein (PAEP); the expression of estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1), homeobox A11 (HOXA11), interleukin 1β (IL1B), IL8, progesterone receptor membrane component 2 (PGRMC2), and prostaglandin E synthase (PTGES) was higher in TIL than in TNL cases; the expression of chemokine C-C motif ligand 2 (CCL2), CCL5, LGALS1, LGALS3, and PAEP was lower in TIL than in TNL cases; immunostaining confirmed qRT-PCR data for IL-8, CCL2, galectin-1, galectin-3, and PAEP; and no correlations between the decidual gene expression and the maternal plasma protein concentrations of CCL2, CCL5, and IL-8 were found. Conclusions: Our data suggests that with the initiation of parturition, the decidual expression of anti-inflammatory mediators decreases, while the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators and steroid receptors increases. This shift may affect downstream signaling pathways that can lead to parturition.
