        It is important to interpret the soil chemical properties in order to effectively manage the farmland. This study was conducted to investigate the soil chemical properties of upland soybean field according to the soil series at 32 upland fields located in the parts of Gangwon-do. Soil sampling sites were selected by using the National Statistics DB and KSIS DB that is a soil environment information system provided by the Rural Development Administration. Soil samples were collected from 0~15 cm of top soil before seeding or transplanting, air-dried, passed through a 2 mm sieve, and analyzed for soil pH, EC, organic matter, available phosphorus (P2O5), exchangeable potassium, exchangeable calcium and exchangeable magnesium. The average chemical properties have exceeded the each nutrient optimum range level of RDA, except the organic matter in experimental soil 2015. And despite application of conventional fertilization, each soil series nutrient contents were change respectively. The results of this study suggest that conventional fertilization should be applied based on the analysis about the amount of accumulated nutrient contents in the soil.

        손마사지가 허혈성 심질환 환자의 불안에 미치는 효과

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a hand massage program on anxiety, vital sign and pain in clients with ischemic heart disease. The design utilized for this stuffy was quail-experimental with a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design The subjects were fifty-four patients, twenty-eight for the experimental and twenty-six for the control group, who were admitted with ischemic heart diease at a cardiac intensive care unfit in K medical center of K university. This study was carried out from May, 1999 to March, 2000. The level of anxiety and pain measured by Visual Analogue Scale, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate were measured before and after hand massage, the state of Anxiety was measured by the Spielberger (1970) scale at admission and after hand massage for three days. The collected data were processed by using the SPSS PC program and analyzed using χ2-test and t-test. The result of this study are as follows : 1. The scores of VAS anxiety and State of anxiety of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group. 2. The degree of systolic blond pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate of the experimental group were lower than that of the control group. 3. The score of VAS pain of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group. The results suggested that hand massage can decrease VAS anxiety, State of anxiety, vital signs and VAS pain of patients who were admitted with ischemic heart disease at cardiac intensive care unit Therefore, It Is proposed that hand massage is an appropriate nursing intervention to relieve anxiety of the patients who were admitted with ischemic heart disease at a cardiac intensive care unit.

        Options for intravenous iron supplementation in hemodialysis patients

        Anemia is one of the most prevalent disorders in patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) treatment. The key pathophysiology of anemia in HD patients is decreased production of erythropoietin; regular hormonal replacement with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) plays central role in anemia treatment. The use of ESAs has yielded several beneficial effects, including improved quality of life, reduced need for blood transfusions and decreased anemia-related morbidity and mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, epoetin-α treatment with a target hemoglobin over 13.5 g/dL was associated with increased risk of death and hospitalization for congestive heart failure and no additional benefit compared with a target hemoglobin of 11.3 g/dL [1]

      • Pelvic arterial embolization for postpartum hemorrhage: A retrospective review of 75 cases

        The aim of this study was to evaluate indications, efficacy, and complications associated with pelvic arterial embolization for postpartum hemorrhage. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of seventy-five consecutive patients who underwent pelvic arterial embolization for postpartum hemorrhage between January 2006 and March 2012. In our single-center study, 75 women underwent pelvic arterial embolization to control postpartum hemorrhage refractory to conservative managements, such as the use of the uterotonic agents, manual exploration of the uterus, suturing possible lacerations, and fundal massages. Among the 75 patients, 44 had a vaginal delivery and 31 had a Cesarean section. The major indication for embolization was uterine atony (66.7%). Other causes are abnormal placentation (17.3%) and low genital tract lacerations (10.7%). The procedure showed a clinical success rate of 96.0% with three cases of pelvic arterial embolization failure in which hemostatic hysterectomy was performed. Three patient (4.0%) presented complications related to the procedure, such as uterine necrosis and endometritis. Pelvic arterial embolization showed a high success rate, mostly without procedure related complications. Thus, it is a safe and effective adjunct or alternative to hemostatic hysterectomy, when primary managements fail to control postpartum hemorrhage.

      • A New Amorphous Semiconducting Polythiophene for High-Performance Organic Thin-Film Transistors

        <P>A new amorphous semiconducting polymer containing dodecylthiophene rings and a rigid thieno[3,2-<I>b</I>]thiophene ring, poly(2,5-bis(3′-dodecyl-2,2′-bithiophen-5-yl)thieno[3,2-<I>b</I>]thiophene) (<B>NAP</B>), was synthesized via a microwave-assisted Stille coupling reaction. The presence of the flexible unsubstituted thiophene ring units next to the rigid fused thiophene ring caused <B>NAP</B> to have an amorphous structure. This structure was confirmed by XRD, AFM, and computational calculations. In particular, the out-of-plane XRD patterns of <B>NAP</B> thin films exhibited no reflection peaks before or after the annealing process, indicating that the films had amorphous microstructures. In addition, AFM images of the <B>NAP</B> thin films showed amorphous surface morphologies with very small root-mean-square (rms) surface roughnesses of 0.3−0.5 nm, independent of surface treatment or heat treatment. Computational calculations performed to investigate the preferred conformation of the polymer confirmed the amorphous characteristics of the <B>NAP</B> structure. On the basis of these findings, we propose how an amorphous <B>NAP</B> semiconductor can maintain high carrier mobility. A <B>NAP</B>-based TFT device exhibited a very high carrier mobility of 0.02 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> with an on/off ratio of 1 × 10<SUP>5</SUP> and a very small threshold voltage of −2.0 V. This carrier mobility is the highest yet reported for TFTs based on amorphous semiconductors.         <P>Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a critical mechanism that drives genetic aberrations in cancer. To identify the entire MS mutation, we performed the first comprehensive genome- and transcriptome-wide analyses of mutations associated with MSI in Korean gastric cancer cell lines and primary tissues. We identified 18,377 MS mutations of five or more repeat nucleotides in coding sequences and untranslated regions of genes, and discovered 139 individual genes whose expression was down-regulated in association with UTR MS mutation. In addition, we found that 90.5% of MS mutations with deletions in gene regions occurred in UTRs. This analysis emphasizes the genetic diversity of MSI-H gastric tumors and provides clues to the mechanistic basis of instability in microsatellite unstable gastric cancers.</P>

        Immunomodulatory effect of CD200-positive human placenta-derived stem cells in the early phase of stroke

        <P>Human placenta amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AMSCs) regulate immune responses, and this property can be exploited to treat stroke patients via cell therapy. We investigated the expression profile of AMSCs cultured under hypoxic conditions and observed interesting expression changes in various genes involved in immune regulation. CD200, an anti-inflammatory factor and positive regulator of TGF-β, was more highly expressed under hypoxic conditions than normoxic conditions. Furthermore, AMSCs exhibited inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in co-cultures with LPS-primed BV2 microglia, and this effect was decreased in CD200-silenced AMSCs. The AMSCs transplanted into the ischemic rat model of stroke dramatically inhibited the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and up-regulated CD200, as compared with the levels in the sham-treated group. Moreover, decreased microglia activation in the boundary region and improvements in behavior were confirmed in AMSC-treated ischemic rats. The results suggested that the highly expressed CD200 from the AMSCs in a hypoxic environment modulates levels of inflammatory cytokines and microglial activation, thus increasing the therapeutic recovery potential after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and further demonstrated the immunomodulatory function of AMSCs in a stroke model.</P>

      • A fetal whole ovarian culture model for the generation of complete in vitro fertile oocytes from mouse primordial germ cells

        Mammalian fetal ovaries contains numerous primordial germ cells, however fewer ones can yield mature oocytes due to apoptosis and follicle atresia. Successful in vitro reconstitution of primordial germ cells has recently had a significant effect in the field of assisted reproductive technologies. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying oogenesis remain unknown and recapitulation of oogenesis in vitro remains unachieved. Therefore, development of methods for obtaining mature oocytes by culturing the fetal ovaries in vitro could contribute to clarify these mechanisms. We adapt an in vitro system for culturing mouse fetal ovaries that support successful follicle assembly and improve oocyte growth and maturation. Ovarian tissues from 12.5 days postcoitum (dpc) fetal mice were cultured in vitro and the matured oocytes were differentiated from primordial germ cells after a 31 days culture period. Our results demonstrate that mouse fetal germ cells are able to form primordial follicles with artificial ovarian cells, and that oocytes within the growing follicles are able to mature normally in vitro. Taken together, this in vitro culture system is expected to aid in the development of new strategies to identify the reasons behind failure of follicle assembly and offer a platform for innovative research into preservation of female germ cells and conservation of endangered species.

      • Electrochemical properties of Sn-substituted LiMn2O4 thin films prepared by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering.

        <P>The LiMn2O4 and LiSn0.0125Mn1975O4 thin films were grown on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si (100) substrate by RF magnetron sputtering. To obtain the structural stability and good cycle performance, deposition parameters, namely working pressure, sputtering gas ratio of Ar and O2, post-annealing temperature were established. The structure and surface morphology of thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The electrochemical properties were estimated by two electrode half-cell test with WBCS 3000 (Wonatech, Korea) at constant current rate of 1 C-rate. The Sn substituted LiMn2O4 thin film deposited at 10 mtorr with mixture of argon and oxygen (Ar/O2 = 3/1) and then annealed at 500 degrees C in O2 atmosphere showed good cycle performance. The Sn substituted LiMn2O4 thin films showed larger capacity of -30 microAh/microm-cm2 and higher cyclability than LiMn2O4 thin films.</P>

      • OB-07 : Pelvic arterial embolization for postpartum hemorrhage; clinical outcomes, complications, and predictive factors

        The aim of this study was to evaluate indications, efficacy, and complications associated with pelvic arterial embolization (PAE) for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 117 consecutive patients who underwent PAE for PPH between January 2006 and June 2013. In our single-center study, 117 women underwent PAE to control PPH refractory to conservative managements including uterine massage, use of uterotonic agents, surgical repair of genital tract lacerations, and removal of retained placental tissues. Among 117 patients, 69 had a vaginal delivery and 48 had a cesarean section. The major indication for embolization was uterine atony (54.7%). Other causes were low genital tract lacerations (21.4%) and abnormal placentation (14.5%). The procedure showed a clinical success rate of 88.0% with fourteen cases of pelvic arterial embolization failure. There were four hemostatic hysterectomies and ten re-embolizations. On univariate analysis, PAE failure was associated with overt DIC (p=0.009), more than 10 RBCUs (red blood cell unit) transfused (p=0.002) and embolization of both uterine and ovarian arteries (p=0.003). Multivariate analysis showed that PAE failure was only associated with more than 10 RBCUs transfused (odds ratio, 8.011; 95% confidence interval 1.531-41.912; p=0.014) and embolization of both uterine and ovarian arteries (odds ratio, 20.472; 95% confidence interval 2.715-154.365; p=0.003), which were not predictive factors, but the results of longer time for PAE. Three patients showed uterine necrosis which underwent hysterectomy. PAE showed high success rates, mostly without procedure-related complications. Thus, it is a safe and effective adjunct or alternative to hemostatic hysterectomy, when primary managements fail to control postpartum hemorrhage.
