      • Comparative Genome Analyses of Sequence Type 398 Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Strains Isolated from Pig Farms in Korea

        Introduction Sequence type (ST) 398 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been reported as a dominant clonal lineage in livestock animals, especially in pigs. Recently, increased number of human infections with ST398 MRSA have been reported worldwide, indicating high zoonotic potentials of this pathogen. Materials and methods In this study, using two ST398 MRSA strains each isolated from a pig and a pig farm worker in Korea, we investigated: i) antimicrobial resistance profiles , ii) genotypes associated with virulence and antimicrobial resistance, iii) comparative genome analysis using whole genome sequence data. Results Both ST398 MRSA isolates harbored SCCmec V for methicillin resistance and exhibited identical multidrug resistance phenotype with a number of antimicrobial resistance genes. However, comparative and functional genome analyses revealed that the two MRSA strains had differences in genome size and numbers of coding sequences (CDSs). These differences suggested that the ST398 MRSA strains may have evolved rapidly in response to different host adaptations. Conclusions Detailed genome analyses of the two ST398 MRSA strains revealed that the genetic relatedness of the two strains was close to European sub-lineages. Further, the differences observed in comparative WGS analyses warrants future research in defining host-specific adaptation of ST398 MRSA during animal-to-human or human-to-animal transmission.

        Investigation on Unstable Pressure Distribution of an Axial Fan Blade with Difference of Setting Angle and Chord Length

        Numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the influence of the setting angle and chord length on the pressure distribution especially for the shroud span of an axial fan. The setting angle was referred to as AOA (angle of attack). The aerodynamic performance of an axial fan with the change of setting angle and chord length was presented, and the unstable pressure distribution was discussed in detail. The airfoil of an axial fan was based on the NACA 3512. The influence of the setting angle was observed with the designed sets which were rotated based on the center of gravity for the blade. The chord length was adjusted while maintaining the setting angle. For each design parameter, 5 sets were designed to conduct the single-factor analysis, respectively. The setting angle had a sensitive effect on the aerodynamic performance of an axial fan. The pressure distribution became unstable related to the setting angle of the shroud span. On the other hand, the chord length was only proportional to the pressure rise and had a little effect on efficiency.

        Degradation Mechanisms of Organic Light-emitting Devices with a Glass Cap

        우리는 tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3)와 같은 단분자 유기물 박막을 사용하여 유기물 발광 소자(OLEDs)를 제작하였다. OLEDs는 ITO가 증착된 유기 기판 위에서 제조되었고, 수명 측정 이후의 OLEDs에 대한 발광, 축전 용량, 유전 손실 특성 등을 측정하였다. 여기서, 수명 측정을 위하여 사용한 인가 전류는 0.5 ㎃ 에서 9 ㎃ 까지였고, 수명의 인가 전류 의존성은 약 2 ㎃ 부근에서 다르게 관찰되었다. C-V 특성 곡선에서 나타난 축전 용량의 봉우리들은 유기물 내의 분극과 유기물과 금속의 경계에서 나타난 분극의 영향으로 추측된다. 그리고, 2 ㎃ 보다 낮은 전류 하에서 수명 측정 후 발광특성이 저하된 OLEDs에서는 소자 내의 분극 크기의 감소와 전하 유입 장벽의 낮아짐이 같이 관찰되었다. We demonstrated organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) based on the organic thin film materials such as tris (8 hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq₃). The structure of OLEDs was vacuum deposited upon transparent and thin glass substrates pre coated with a transparent, conducting indium tin oxide thin film. The luminance characteristics, current, capacitance, and dispersion factor for degraded OLEDs, which were made by various bias currents (0.5 ㎃ ≤ IBias ≤ 9 ㎃), are studied. The current dependences of lifetime were divided at approximately 2 ㎃, and they represented nearly linear behaviors but had different slopes in a logarithmic plot of lifetime versus bias current. With lighting OLEDs, the anomaly of capacitance, as shown in the C-V curve, occurred because of two factors, polarization in the bulk of organic materials and the interface between the metal and organic layers. In decayed OLEDs that had lower bias currents of less than 2 ㎃, it was found that the degradation of luminance was related to both the decrease of polarization and to the lowering of the injection barrier.

        지방정부와 주둔미군과의 상호작용과 협력체제에 관한 연구

        This paper aims to figure out conflicts and to conceptualize interactions between local governments and USFK at the local level. The issues of the USFK have been discussed from the views of national and regional security. The issues need to be approached from the standpoints of the local communities, who happened to host the U.S. Forces in their regions. This paper suggests that current interaction patterns between local governments and the USFK should be changed for the new era of the alliance management. Local governments are asked to be more active to build interdependent relationship with the USFK bases. They can become more dependent upon each other through the exchange of public and social services such as sewage services, gas and electric services and emergency services collectively. Information exchange about military exercises and various local activities will be helpful in building new bilateral relationship. Cultual and volunteer activities programs and sisterhood relationship at the local levels can make it possible to understand each other much better. In order to build the cooperative relationship, above all, the USFK authorities are asked to open and institutionalize a new consultation channel to local governments.

        원전지역공동체 재구조화에 대한 시론적 연구

        본 연구는 고리원전 지역사회가 지난 반세기 가까운 시기에 겪었던 여러 가지 변화와 관련된 외부적・정책적 사건흐름을 기술하고자 한다. 특히 고리지역원전공동체가 고리원자로 주변지역(부산광역시 기장군 장안읍 길천마을)으로부터 부산 전역까지 어떻게 지리적・사회적 외연을 확장하였으며, 그 확장과정에 영향을 미친 맥락적(외부적・정책적) 사건은 무엇이 있었는가를 밝히는 작업이 본 연구의 주된 연구내용이다. 이러한 연구 작업을 통하여 다양한 원전하위공동체의 존재와 그 특성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과들이 각 원전지역공동체와 그 공동체 구성원들에 상당한 영향(위험, 갈등, 편익 등)을 미치는 원전관련 의사결정과정과 문제해결과정에 이들이 의미 있는 결정주체로 참여하여 각각의 의견과 요구를 반영할 있는 단초를 제공하기를 기대한다. 본 논문은 원전지역공동체와 관련하는 5가지 경험요소들(위험경험, 편익경험, 원전관련 지식, 원전관련활동, 물리적 거리)의 수준이나 경험 강도에 따른 3가지 원전지역공동체의 개념적 재구성을 시도하였다. 기존에 고리원전인접지역으로 물리적으로 한정된 지역공동체를 장안원전지역공동체, 기장원전지역공동체, 부산원전지역공동체등으로 개념적 확장을 하였으며, 각각의 공동체의 특성을 확인하는 작업을 진행하였다. 아울러 원전지역공동체 확장과정에 개입했다고 판단되는 주요 맥락적 사건들(고리원전1호기 정전사태, 후쿠시마사고, 기장해수담수화사업, 경주지진 등)과 공동체 확장과정과의 관계를 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 새롭게 등장하고 그 영향력을 강하게 발휘하기 시작한 다른 원전지역공동체들의 성격이나 그 공동체들이 제기하는 요구, 구성원들의 정서를 이해하고 이에 능동적으로 대응하고 포용하는 노력이 필요하다는 점을 시사하고 있다. 이러한 장기간에 걸친 흐름을 파악하기 위한 연구방법으로 본 연구는 관련 문헌연구와 관련 전문가들에 대한 초점집단면접방법(Focused Group Interview)을 활용하였다. This study tries to figure out three different types of the KORI Nuclear Power Plant Communities. Each community is conceptually identified based on five constitutive factors such as direct sensory experience of the danger from the nuclear power plants, benefits given by the power plant company, diverse social activities such as demonstrations against and supporting for the nuclear power plants, general knowledge and acquired information level about the nuclear power plants, and geographical distance from the KORI power plant. Local residents, in particular, near to the nuclear power plants are likely to have complex attitudes and feelings toward the local nuclear power plants. They used to try to get more funds and benefits from nuclear power plants, but they tend to escape from the potential danger of the nuclear power plants as well as to control the usage of the funds only for their communities. We believe that these ambivalent attitudes and complex interest relationship around the nuclear power plants have created the multiple layers of local communities near to the KORI nuclear power plant. After reviewing those five factors, this study suggests three different conceptual local communities such as JangAn, GiJang and Busan nuclear power local communities. And the characteristics of three different local communities are to be discussed. The results of this study imply that we need to approach toward the issues of nuclear power plants and adjacent local communities more integrative ways. The different needs, diverse residents attitudes, changing political influence, conflicting current issues and agendas of each local communities are to be taken account very carefully.
