Separation dynamics of hydrogen isotope gas in mesoporous and microporous adsorbent beds at 77 K: SBA-15 and zeolites 5A, Y, 10X

        Chu, X.Z.,Cheng, Z.P.,Xiang, X.X.,Xu, J.M.,Zhao, Y.J.,Zhang, W.G.,Lv, J.S.,Zhou, Y.P.,Zhou, L.,Moon, D.K.,Lee, C.H. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2014 International journal of hydrogen energy Vol.39 No.9

The separation of a hydrogen isotope mixture on porous materials was studied using equilibrium and breakthrough experiments. The adsorption equilibria of H2 and D2 on SBA-15 with mesopores and molecular sieves 5A, Y, and 10X with micropores were measured at 77 K using the volumetric method. The breakthrough experiments of a H2 and D2 mixture in each adsorbent bed were carried out at various conditions of flow rate and pressure. The equilibrium ratio of D2 to H2 on mesoporous molecular sieves was larger than the ratio on microporous molecular sieves (SBA-15 > 10X > Y > 5A), but the difference among the adsorbents decreased with increases in pressure. On the other hand, the order of breakthrough separation factor showed the opposite result (SBA-15 < 10X < Y < 5A). The breakthrough separation factors for zeolite 10X was approximately equal to the equilibrium ratio of D2 to H2 at the corresponding partial pressures, whereas zeolites 5A and Y showed higher breakthrough separation factors than their equilibrium ratios. In SBA-15, the separation factors from breakthrough results were even smaller than the corresponding equilibrium ratio. In the microporous adsorbent with a limited pore size (zeolite 5A in the study), the diffusion mechanism contributed to the separation of hydrogen isotope gases as one of key factors.

放射線 治療의 迅速正確을 위한 低溫熔融 遮蔽物의 製作과 應用

        秋成實,李道行,朴昌潤 대한방사선방어학회 1979 방사선방어학회지 Vol.4 No.1

For accurate and easily shielding irregular shaped organ, its minimized penumbra region and a low melting point alloy "Lead Y" and synchronizing instrument have been developed. The "Lead Y" is the quaternary eutectic alloy and it is composed of Lead 30.0% Tin 11.5% Bismuth 48.5% Cadmium 10.0% The density of its at 22℃ is 9.8g/㎤ and the melting temperature has 40℃ to 68℃. The thickness of "Lead Y" for perfect shielding of Co-60 gamma ray and LINAC 10MeV x-ray is 6cm and 7cm respectively. The "Lead Y" shielding block is casted directly on the styrofoam from which is cut with hot wire of synchronizer device. The special features and advantages of the Lead Y shielding block could be summarized as follows: 1. The shielding block for radiotherapy is rapidly processed only with boiling water and styrofoam. 2. It is not injure one's health and not danger of a fire, because of not generating of any metals vapor and evil smelling. 3. It is very effective to minimize secondary penumbra for the protection of healthy tissue from unnecessary ionizing radiation regardless of the magnification source to skin distance. 4. The HVL of the Lead Y is 1.2cm for Co-60 gamma ray and it's shielding effect if almost same as the pure lead block. 5. The hardness of Lead Y is 1.5 times higher than lead block. 6. It's reavailability is higher than lead block and then one block of Lead Y is reavailable about 30 to 40 times. 7. It is useful for shielding of x-ray, gamma ray, beta-ray, electron and neutron radiation. 8. The materials for Lead Y are easy to acquire with reasonable price and tractable.

Empirical Selection of Informative Microsatellite Markers within Co-ancestry Pig Populations Is Required for Improving the Individual Assignment Efficiency

        Lia, Y.H.,Chu, H.P.,Jiang, Y.N.,Lin, C.Y.,Li, S.H.,Li, K.T.,Weng, G.J.,Cheng, C.C.,Lu, D.J.,Ju, Y.T. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.5

The Lanyu is a miniature pig breed indigenous to Lanyu Island, Taiwan. It is distantly related to Asian and European pig breeds. It has been inbred to generate two breeds and crossed with Landrace and Duroc to produce two hybrids for laboratory use. Selecting sets of informative genetic markers to track the genetic qualities of laboratory animals and stud stock is an important function of genetic databases. For more than two decades, Lanyu derived breeds of common ancestry and crossbreeds have been used to examine the effectiveness of genetic marker selection and optimal approaches for individual assignment. In this paper, these pigs and the following breeds: Berkshire, Duroc, Landrace and Yorkshire, Meishan and Taoyuan, TLRI Black Pig No. 1, and Kaohsiung Animal Propagation Station Black pig are studied to build a genetic reference database. Nineteen microsatellite markers (loci) provide information on genetic variation and differentiation among studied breeds. High differentiation index ($F_{ST}$) and Cavalli-Sforza chord distances give genetic differentiation among breeds, including Lanyu's inbred populations. Inbreeding values ($F_{IS}$) show that Lanyu and its derived inbred breeds have significant loss of heterozygosity. Individual assignment testing of 352 animals was done with different numbers of microsatellite markers in this study. The testing assigned 99% of the animals successfully into their correct reference populations based on 9 to 14 markers ranking D-scores, allelic number, expected heterozygosity ($H_E$) or $F_{ST}$, respectively. All miss-assigned individuals came from close lineage Lanyu breeds. To improve individual assignment among close lineage breeds, microsatellite markers selected from Lanyu populations with high polymorphic, heterozygosity, $F_{ST}$ and D-scores were used. Only 6 to 8 markers ranking $H_E$, $F_{ST}$ or allelic number were required to obtain 99% assignment accuracy. This result suggests empirical examination of assignment-error rates is required if discernible levels of co-ancestry exist. In the reference group, optimum assignment accuracy was achievable achieved through a combination of different markers by ranking the heterozygosity, $F_{ST}$ and allelic number of close lineage populations.

Predictors of survival for patients with cancer after cryptogenic stroke

        Shin, Y. W.,Lee, S. T.,Jung, K. H.,Kim, D. Y.,Park, C. K.,Kim, T. M.,Choi, S. H.,Chu, K.,Lee, S. K. M. Nijhoff 2016 Journal of neuro-oncology Vol.128 No.2

<P>Patients with active cancer experience ischemic stroke via cryptogenic mechanisms, with cancer-associated hypercoagulability being considered a major contributor to such strokes. Despite the remarkably shortened survival of these patients, the clinical predictors of survival are poorly understood. We determined the clinical factors including D-dimer levels serving as the predictors of overall survival in these patients. Retrospective study was conducted on cancer patients who visited our hospital for acute ischemic stroke with cryptogenic mechanisms from April 2012 through November 2014. Demographics, clinical characteristics, imaging and laboratory results including coagulation markers were collected, and overall survival was calculated from the patient medical records and a governmental national database. A high D-dimer level was defined as a D-dimer level exceeding the median value from the study population (> 5.50 mu g/ml). A total of 93 patients were identified, with a median survival of 62 days (interquartile range 32-223 days). A high D-dimer level (p = 0.004; hazard ratio [HR] 2.01, 95 % confidence interval [CI] 1.26-3.21), systemic metastases (p = 0.02; HR 2.08, 95 % CI 1.11-3.90), and diabetes mellitus (p = 0.03; HR 1.78, 95 % CI 1.03-3.10) were identified as independent predictors of poor overall survival using multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis. Most of the patients (87 %) were primarily treated with low-molecular-weight heparin (dalteparin, n = 49; enoxaparin, n = 32). The type of low-molecular-weight heparin had no association with survival. A high D-dimer level, systemic metastases, and diabetes are independent predictors of poor survival in cancer patients with cryptogenic stroke.</P>

      • Stability Analysis of the KSTAR PF Busline

        Park, Y. M.,Lee, H. J.,Chu, Y.,Park, D. S.,Kwag, S. W.,Song, N. H.,Woo, I. S.,Chang, Y. B.,Joo, J. J.,Moon, K. M.,Kim, S. H.,Park, K. R.,Yang, H. L.,Kwon, M. IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity Vol.22 No.3

<P>The Cable-In-Conduit Conductor (CICC) for the KSTAR buslines is made of NbTi superconducting (SC) strands. A busline consists of several electrical joints, which are the major heat load contributors to the busline cryo-system. In the poloidal field (PF) busline helium circuit, the supercritical helium is fed to the electrical joint of current lead end and comes out to the magnet terminal joint. This helium flow configuration has been verified to maintain the cryogenic stability of the buslines through the KSTAR operation. During the normal operation of the KSTAR PF coil, the heated helium coming out to both the coil and the busline meets at the magnet terminal and exchange heat, but the busline outlet temperature still remained less than magnet outlet temperature. As the buslines for the electrical connection in series of the upper and lower coils for PF1 and PF2 have the helium path through the two terminal joints of magnet, they experience higher temperature than the other buslines mainly due to the larger heat exchange. In this case, the connection buslines are considered to have very low safety margin and have the strong possibility of quenches.</P>
