        Amitriptyline plays important roles in modifying the ovarian morphology and improving its functions in rats with estradiol valerate-induced polycystic ovary

        Previous studies demonstrated that depression is more prevalent in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In this study, we aimed to determine whether amitriptyline (AMT), an antidepressant drug, plays a role in preventing PCOS. The results showed that AMT modified ovarian morphology improved the ovarian functions and estrus cycle in estradiol valerate (EV)-induced polycystic ovary (PCO). AMT restored the levels of estradiol (E2), testosterone (T) and progesterone (P4) to normal, and elevated the level of luteinizing hormone (LH) in EV-induced PCO. No significant changes in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels were observed in rats with EV or AMT treatment. The restoration of norepinephrine (NE) level was detected in rats with EV-induced PCO. AMT also altered the expression levels of steroidogenesis genes and beta2-adrenoceptor (beta2-AR) in EV-induced PCO. Our data revealed that AMT improves the ovarian morphology and modifies ovarian expression of beta2-AR and steroidogenesis genes in rats with EV-induced rat PCO. Our data provide support for the hypothesis that AMT is considered as a candidate drug for preventing and treating PCOS along with depression.

        Distinct growth phenomenon observed on L-Arg․ CF3COOH crystals

        Atomic force microscopy has been employed to study the growth behaviour on the {101} facets of L-Arg ․ CF3COOH crystals grown at 25℃ at a supersaturation of σ = 0.2. Nucleation on the wider step terraces and a large nucleus composed of two separate 2D nuclei were observed for the first time. For the region where blocking occurs convex pattern are found in the macrosteps, which correspond to the sites of the impurities that act as pinning points hindering step propagation. Finally, liquid inclusions will be generated because of disparate formation mechanisms.         Dynamic Characteristics Identification of an Arch Dam Model via the Phase-Based Video Processing

        In recent years, the extraction of structural dynamic characteristics by using phase-based video processing has attracted considerable attention. Edge detection routine is oftentimes employed to obtain the quantified operational deflection shape (ODS) vectors of structures. However, this approach is unreliable because of intensive human supervision and correction. To reduce operational uncertainty, a hybrid computer-vision-based approach called edge detection-region labeling, which involves vision sensor preparation, bottom-hat filtering, edge detection, hole filling, and region labeling, was presented in this work to extract the quantified ODS’s. The performance of this method was firstly evaluated by conducting a lab-scale cantilever beam test and subsequently the phase-based video processing was applied to extract the dynamic characteristics of an arch dam model. The operational modal analysis (OMA) test was conducted on the benchmark dam model. In-plane motions of the dam were captured and processed to identify the natural frequencies of the dam. The structural ODS’s were quantified using the proposed method. A comparison of the modal parameters of the dam identified from the video data with those obtained in the OMA test revealed that the two sets of results were consistent, and the video processing approach was able to bypass the requirement of human supervision, which facilitates the application of the phase-based video processing for complex structures.

        Modeling and Analytical Calculation of a Multiphase Induction Motor in the Phase Loss Asymmetrical Transient Process

        The multiphase independent winding induction motor (MIWIM) has wide application in AC drive systems of high control redundancy necessary to ships and coal mines. An accurate analysis of its phase loss transient process is a prerequisite for the phase loss fault-tolerant control. When a phase loss occurs, the internal magnetic fi elds of the MIWIM are asymmetric. In this case, conventional coordinate transformation or resultant space vector cannot be used to reduce the mathematical model of the motor phase loss to a lower order. Using a fi ve-phase induction motor as an object of study, this paper presents a full-order mathematical model suitable for the asymmetric state in the α – β –z1–z2–z3 coordinate system. The factor analysis of the frequency domain and no consideration of its small value make it possible to reduce the order of the analytical model. According to the constraint relationship between voltage and current, an analytical analysis is made of the motor dynamic characteristics after a phase loss. The results are in agreement with those of numerical simulation and experiment, which verify that the phase loss asymmetric transient model and analytic method of the MIWIM are feasible and eff ective.

        Environmental fatigue correction factor model for domestic nuclear-grade low-alloy steel

        Low cycle fatigue behaviors of SA508-3 low-alloy steel were investigated in room-temperature air, high-temperature air and in light water reactor (LWR) water environments. The fatigue mean curve and design curve for the low-alloy steel are developed based on the fatigue data in room-temperature and high-temperature air. The environmental fatigue model for low-alloy steel is developed by the environmental fatigue correction factor (F<sub>en</sub>) methodology based on the fatigue data in LWR water environments with the consideration of effects of strain rate, temperature, and dissolved oxygen concentration on the fatigue life.

        Study on AlGaN P-I-N-I-N Solar-Blind Avalanche Photodiodes with Al0.45Ga0.55N Multiplication Layer

        This paper presents the design for a heterojunction AlGaN solarblind avalanche photodiode (APD) with improved noise performance. Increasing the Al composition of AlGaN in the multiplication layer from 0.40 to 0.45 was calculated to significantly reduce the excess noise factor of this heterojunction APD. The polarization electric field induced in the multiplication layer had the same direction as the applied reverse bias field, which helped lower the avalanche breakdown voltage. The calculated results demonstrated that the apparent spike in the electric field intensity at the i-Al0.4Ga0.6N/n- Al0.5Ga0.5N interface can be effectively suppressed by inserting a grading n-AlGaN layer, which helps reduce the dark current.
