        Nanosponge membrane with 3D-macrocycle b-cyclodextrin as molecular cage to simultaneously enhance antifouling properties and efficient separation of dye/oil mixtures

        Developing multifunctional, efficient and durable membrane for treating complex oily wastewater ishighly desirable but still a challenge due to the severe membrane fouling. Herein, nanosponge membranewith 3D-macrocycle b-cyclodextrin (b-CDs) as molecular cage was manufactured by azide-alkyne clickreaction for oil/water treatment and antifouling properties simultaneously. The macrocyclic ‘molecularcage’ geometry of b-CDs can induce various guest molecules into their cavities. When clickable b-CDN3was fixed onto a clickable EVAL- membrane surface, the hydrophilicity of the membrane was greatlyimproved. Furthermore, the molecular cage–grafted membrane (EVAL-g-CD) showed better antifoulingperformance than a pure EVAL membrane, with lower water flux decline (15%) and higher water fluxrecovery (91%). The flux and separation efficiency values of the EVAL-g-CD membrane were higher than120 Lm2h1 and 99%, respectively. The EVAL-g-CD membrane also exhibited good adsorption performancefor organic pollutants owing to its cavity structure. Furthermore, the membrane showed desirablestability and its rejection remained at 99% after filtration. This proposed 3D membrane strategy based onmolecular cages sheds light on the formation of hydrophilic membrane surfaces and shows great promisefor potential applications such as the separation of oil-in-water emulsions.

        LINC00174 Facilitates Proliferation and Migration of Colorectal Cancer Cells via MiR-3127-5p/ E2F7 Axis

        The literature indicates that LINC00174 promotes the growth of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells, but its research needs to be enriched. We tried to explore the function and mechanism of LINC00174 in CRC cell proliferation and migration. Bioinformatics analysis predicted the binding relationship and expressions of lncRNA, miRNA and mRNA. Clinical study analyzes the relationship between LINC00174 and clinical data characteristics of CRC patients. The expressions of LINC00174, miR-3127-5p and E2F7 were verified by RT-qPCR, and the combination of the two was verified by dual luciferase analysis and RNA immunoprecipitation as needed. Western blot was used to detect the expression of EMT-related protein and E2F7 protein. Functional experiments were used to evaluate the function of the target gene on CRC cells. LINC00174 was up-regulated in CRC clinical samples and cells and was related to the clinical characteristics of CRC patients. High-expression of LINC00174, contrary to the effect of siLINC00174, promoted cell viability, proliferation, migration and invasion, up-regulated the expressions of N-Cadherin, Vimentin, E2F7, and inhibited the expression of E-Cadherin. MiR-3127-5p was one of the targeted miRNAs of LINC00174 and was down-regulated in CRC samples. In addition, miR-3127-5p mimic partially reversed the malignant phenotype of CRC cells induced by LINC00174. Besides, E2F7 was a target gene of miR-3127-5p, and LINC00174 repressed miR-3127-5p to regulate E2F7. Our research reveals that LINC00174 affected the biological characteristics of CRC cells through regulated miR-3127-5p/ E2F7 axis.

        3D Porous Graphene/Polyvinyl Alcohol Composites: The Effect of Modification on the Adsorption Properties

        Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was grafted on graphene nanosheets (GN) in the reduction of graphene oxide with hydrazine hydrate. The obtained GN-PVA (GP) suspension was treated with the freezing– thawing cycle to fabricate 3D porous monolithic GP materials, which were modified with carbon disulfide to introduce xanthan groups on the wall of porous materials, marked as GPCs. The characterization of GPCs confirmed that PVA was attached on the surface of GNs, and xanthan groups were effectively functionalized on the porous structures, which were composed of randomly oriented GNs. The Pb2+ adsorption pattern for GPC materials was investigated. The kinetic adsorption and isotherm data fit the pseudo second-order kinetic and the Langmuir isotherm models, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb2+ reached 242.7 mg/g. And GPCs for Pb2+ adsorption could be regenerated with ethylenediamine tetracetic acid (EDTA) solution for repetitious adsorption.

        Comparison of Biological Characteristics of Human Umbilical Cord Wharton’s Jelly-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Extremely Preterm and Term Infants

        BACKGROUND: Despite the progress in perinatal-neonatal medicine, complications of extremely preterm infants continue to constitute the major adverse outcomes in neonatal intensive care unit. Human umbilical cord Wharton’s Jellyderived mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs) may offer new hope for the treatment of intractable neonatal disorders. This study will explore the functional differences of HUMSCs between extremely preterm and term infants. METHODS: UMSCs from 5 extremely preterm infants(weeks of gestation: 22?5 w,24?4 w,25?3 w,26 w,28 w) and 2 term infants(39 w,39?2 w) were isolated, and mesenchymal markers, pluripotent genes, proliferation rate were analyzed. HUVECs were injured by treated with LPS and repaired by co-cultured with HUMSCs of different gestational ages. RESULTS: All HUMSCs showed fibroblast-like adherence to plastic and positively expressed surface marker of CD105,CD73 and CD90, but did not expressed CD45,CD34,CD14,CD79a and HLA-DR; HUMSCs in extremely preterm exhibited significant increase in proliferation as evidenced by CCK8, pluripotency markers OCT-4 tested by RT-PCR also showed increase. Above all, in LPS induced co-cultured inflame systerm, HUMSCs in extremely preterm were more capable to promote wound healing and tube formation in HUVEC cultures, they promoted TGFb1 expression and inhibited IL6 expression. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that HUMSCs from extremely preterm infants may be more suitable as candidates in cell therapy for the preterm infants.

        Demography and mass-rearing of Carposina sasakii Matsumura (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae) reared on Golden Delicious and Red Fuji apples in the laboratory

        Carposina sasakii Matsumura (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae), is one of the most serious fruit-boring pests in over ten species of fruit trees, and is especially damaging apples in the northern of China. The application of new planting systems, i.e., high-density and dwarfing rootstock orchard systems with mixed apple varieties, makes it im portant to study the fitness of C. sasakii on these apple varieties to gain fundamental knowledge for use in pest management involving this insect. In this study, life table data of C. sasakii were collected using Golden Delicious and Red Fuji apples as hosts. The egg-larva duration of male C. sasakii reared on Golden Delicious apples (22.81 d) was significantly shorter than that reared on Red Fuji apples (24.27 d). The egg-larva mortality in Golden Delicious apples (59.00%) was lower than that in Red Fuji apples (72.49%). The mortality of the pupal stage, however, was higher in Golden Delicious (10.51%) than in Red Fuji (0%). The total oviposition period (TPOP) on Golden Delicious apples (32.94 d) was significantly shorter than in individuals reared on Red Fuji apples (34.19 d). The intrinsic rate of increase (r = 0.0581 d −1 ), net reproductive rate (R 0 = 7.57 offspring), and finite rate of increase (λ = 1.0598 d −1 ) were all higher on Golden Delicious than those on Red Fuji. When the net re productive rate (R 0 ) was used, the harvest rate of pupae was higher (0.8678) when reared on Golden Delicious apples than when reared on Red Fuji apples (0.8398). When a large cohort size (n = 200) was used for effective bootstrap sample, the P E values for C. sasakii reared on Golden Delicious apples and Red Fuji apples were both almost equal to 1. For C. sasakii culturing purposes, Golden Delicious apples would be more productive than Red Fuji.

        Synthesis of rectorite/Fe3O4-CTAB composite for the removal of nitrate and phosphate from water

        The rectorite/Fe3O4-CTAB composite (REC/Fe3O4-CTAB) was fabricated by introducing cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and Fe3O4 onto the layers of raw rectorite (REC). The layers of rectorite wereintercalated or exfoliated, and CTAB enhanced the electrostatic attraction by quaternary ammoniumcations towards nitrate and phosphate anions. The order of Fe3O4 and CTAB introduction had great effecton the adsorption. When Fe3O4 was loaded before CTAB on REC, the obtained composites exhibitedbetter adsorption. Themaximum adsorption capacities could reach 182.1 mg/g for NO3and 174.5 mg/gfor PO43 . Besides, REC/Fe3O4-CTAB composite could be easily regenerated with NaOH solution.
