This paper uses modelling and experiment to perform a quantitative analysis for the gypsum and ettringite formations in cement pastes subjected to sulfate attack. Firstly, based on Fick’s law and chemical reaction kinetics, a diffusion model of sulfate ions in cement pastes is proposed, and then the model of the gypsum and ettringite formations is established to analyze its contents in cement pastes with corrosion time. Secondly, the corrosion experiment of the specimens with cement pastes immersed into 2.5%, 5.0% and 10.0% Na2SO4 solutions are carried out, and by using XRD-Rietveld method, the phases of powder samples from the specimens are quantitatively analyzed to obtain the contents of gypsum and ettringite in different surface depth, solution concentration and corrosion time. Finally, the contents of gypsum and ettringite calculated by the models are compared with the results from the XRD experiments, and then the effects of surface depth, corrosion time and solution concentration on the gypsum and ettringite formations in cement pastes are discussed.

Sun, Jing-Wen,Li, Xiao-Rong,Gao, Hong-Yu,Yin, Jie-Yun,Qin, Qin,Nie, Shao-Fa,Wei, Sheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.1
Background: The possibility that electromagnetic fields (EMF) exposure may increase male breast cancer risk has been discussed for a long time. However, arguments have been presented that studies limited by poor quality could have led to statistically significant results by chance or bias. Moreover, data fo the last 10 years have not been systematically summarized. Methods and Results: To confirm any possible association, a meta-analysis was performed by a systematic search strategy. Totals of 7 case-control and 11 cohort studies was identified and pooled ORs with 95% CIs were used as the principal outcome measures. Data from these studies were extracted with a standard meta-analysis procedure and grouped in relation to study design, cut-off point, exposure assessment method, adjustment and exposure model. A statistical significant increased risk of male breast cancer with EMF exposure was defined (pooled ORs = 1.32, 95% CI = 1.14-1.52, P < 0.001), and subgroup analyses also showed similar results. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that EMF exposure may be associated with the increase risk of male breast cancer despite the arguments raised.

A monosomal karyotype (MK), defined as ${\geq}2$ autosomal monosomies or a single monosomy in the presence of additional structural abnormalities, was recently identified as an independent prognostic factor conveying an extremely poor prognosis in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In the present study, after excluding patients with t(15;17), t(8;21), inv(16) and normal karyotypes, 324 AML patients with cytogenetic abnormalities were the main subject of analysis. The incidences of MK were 13% in patients aged 15 to 60 years and 18% in those between 15 and 88 years old. MK was much more prevalent among elderly patients (p < 0.001) and was significantly associated with the presence of -7, -5, del(5q), abn12p, abn17p, -18 or 18q-, -20 or 20q- and CK (for all p < 0.001 except for abn12p p=0.009), and +8 or +8q was less frequent in MK+ AML(p=0.007). No correlation was noted between monosomal karyotype and FAB subtype (p > 0.05); MK remained significantly associated with worse overall survival among patients with complex karyotype (p=0.032); A single autosomal monosomy contributed an additional negative effect in OS of patients with structural cytogenetic abnormalities (P=0.008). This report presents the prevalence, feature and prognostic impact of MK among a large series of Chinese AML patients from a single center for the first time.
A variational nodal formulation for multi-dimensional unstructured neutron diffusion problems
Qizheng Sun,Wei Xiao,Xiangyue Li,Han Yin,Tengfei Zhang,Xiaojing Liu Korean Nuclear Society 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.6
A variational nodal method (VNM) with unstructured-mesh is presented for solving steady-state and dynamic neutron diffusion equations. Orthogonal polynomials are employed for spatial discretization, and the stiffness confinement method (SCM) is implemented for temporal discretization. Coordinate transformation relations are derived to map unstructured triangular nodes to a standard node. Methods for constructing triangular prism space trial functions and identifying unique nodes are elaborated. Additionally, the partitioned matrix (PM) and generalized partitioned matrix (GPM) methods are proposed to accelerate the within-group and power iterations. Neutron diffusion problems with different fuel assembly geometries validate the method. With less than 5 pcm eigenvalue (keff) error and 1% relative power error, the accuracy is comparable to reference methods. In addition, a test case based on the kilowatt heat pipe reactor, KRUSTY, is created, simulated, and evaluated to illustrate the method's precision and geometrical flexibility. The Dodds problem with a step transient perturbation proves that the SCM allows for sufficiently accurate power predictions even with a large time-step of approximately 0.1 s. In addition, combining the PM and GPM results in a speedup ratio of 2-3.

NiTi-wire shape memory alloy (SMA) dampers, that utilize NiTi SMA wires to simultaneously damp tension, compression and torsion, was developed for structural control implementation in this study. First, eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers were constructed. Then tension, compression and torsion experiments using the eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers of different specification were done. The experimental results revealed all of the eight reduced-scale NiTi-wire SMA dampers had the ability to simultaneously supply tension-compression damping and torsion damping. Finally, mechanics analysis of the NiTi-wire SMA dampers was done based on a model of the SMA-wire restoring force and on tension-compression and torsion damping analysis. The damping analytical results were found to be similar to the damping experimental results.

Background: Ginsenosides are the major effective ingredients responsible for the pharmacological effects of ginseng. Malonyl ginsenosides are natural ginsenosides that contain a malonyl group attached to a glucose unit of the corresponding neutral ginsenosides. Methods: Medium-pressure liquid chromatography and semipreparative high-performance liquid chromatography were used to isolate purified compounds and their structures determined by extensive one-dimensional- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. Results: A new saponin, namely malonyl-ginsenoside Re, was isolated from the fresh flower buds of Panax ginseng, along with malonyl-ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd. Some assignments for previously published ¹H- and 13C-NMR spectra were found to be inaccurate. Conclusion: This study reports the complete NMR assignment of malonyl-ginsenoside Re, Rb₁, Rb₂, Rc, and Rd for the first time.
Effects of preloads on joints on dynamic stiffness of a whole machine tool structure
Liang MI,Guo-fu YIN,Ming-nan SUN,Xiao-hu WANG 대한기계학회 2012 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.26 No.2
The machine tool joint is a very important factor in the overall machine tool dynamic analysis, and it has great effects on the machining performance of a machine tool. As a very important operation parameter, preload greatly influences the stiffness and the damping of a machine tool joint. This paper presents the effect of preload on the dynamic stiffness of the spindle nose of a horizontal machining center. By discussing types and distribution of machine tool joints, studies on the joints of ball screws, linear guides and bolts are carried out. The influence of preload on the axial stiffness of a ball screw is calculated based on Hertzian contact theory and the effect of pretightening moment on pressure of bolt joint is discussed, while the dynamic stiffness and the damping of a linear guide are identified by an optimum algorithm with the simulated and experimental results. A finite element model (FEM) of the whole machine tool structure considering the effects of different joints is created and verified against the test results, and then the influence of preloads on ball screws and linear guides is predicted. Results indicate that preloads on machine tool joints have significant effects on the dynamic stiffness of the spindle nose.
