The increasing of wind power penetration level presents challenges in classical optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) which is usually formulated as a deterministic optimization problem. This paper proposes a two-stage stochastic programming model for ORPD by considering the uncertainties of wind speed and load in a specified time interval. To avoid the excessive operation, the schedule of compensators will be determined in the first-stage while accounting for the costs of adjusting the compensators (CACs). Under uncertainty effects, on-load tap changer (OLTC) and generator in the second-stage will compensate the mismatch caused by the first-stage decision. The objective of the proposed model is to minimize the sum of CACs and the expected energy loss. The stochastic behavior is formulated by three-point estimate method (TPEM) to convert the stochastic programming into equivalent deterministic problem. A hybrid Genetic Algorithm-Interior Point Method is utilized to solve this large-scale mixed-integer nonlinear stochastic problem. Two case studies on IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 118-bus system are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Household's Happiness and Financial Market Participation
Wei Cui,조인숙 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2019 Global economic review Vol.48 No.4
Using the 2014 China Family Panel Studies, this study examines the impact of household’s subjective well-being on financial decision. It investigates whether happiness affects household’s decision to participate in risky financial market. This study finds a non-linear relationship between happiness and the probability of financial market participation. The probability of risky financial market participation increases as self-reported happiness measure increases. However, the probability declines slightly at the highest level of self-reported happiness measure. In order to address a potential endogeneity problem, this study uses the Two Stage Least Squaredmodel with two sets of instrumental variables. These findings provide a strong support for the hypothesis that a person’s subjective well-being is one of the major determinants of household’s economic behaviours, and provide an important implication on household portfolio research.
Generating unconventional wind flow in an actively controlled multi-fan wind tunnel
Wei Cui,Lin Zhao,Shuyang Cao,Yaojun Ge 한국풍공학회 2021 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.33 No.2
In this study, an iteration-based method to simulate two typical examples of unconventional wind flow in a multi-fan wind tunnel is described: skewed non-Gaussian turbulence and sinusoidal type transient gust. The air flows are generated by 120 actively controlled fans arranged in a 10 wide by 12 high matrix. Time-varying voltages signals can be imported into the fans' servomotors, then corresponding wind flow can be produced in this wind tunnel. At first, the target wind speeds time series are converted to voltages signals, which are input into the fans' motor next, and then the initial wind flow generated can be measured. Then the wind speeds time series to be input are adjusted according to the differences between the target winds speeds and measured flow speeds. The above procedure is iteratively repeated until the measured wind flow is gradually close to the targets. At last, both non-Gaussian turbulence and transient gust can be simulated with satisfied precision after several iterations.
New GPU computing algorithm for wind load uncertainty analysis on high-rise systems
Wei, Cui,Luca, Caracoglia Techno-Press 2015 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.21 No.5
In recent years, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has become a competitive computing technology in comparison with the standard Central Processing Unit (CPU) technology due to reduced unit cost, energy and computing time. This paper describes the derivation and implementation of GPU-based algorithms for the analysis of wind loading uncertainty on high-rise systems, in line with the research field of probability-based wind engineering. The study begins by presenting an application of the GPU technology to basic linear algebra problems to demonstrate advantages and limitations. Subsequently, Monte-Carlo integration and synthetic generation of wind turbulence are examined. Finally, the GPU architecture is used for the dynamic analysis of three high-rise structural systems under uncertain wind loads. In the first example the fragility analysis of a single degree-of-freedom structure is illustrated. Since fragility analysis employs sampling-based Monte Carlo simulation, it is feasible to distribute the evaluation of different random parameters among different GPU threads and to compute the results in parallel. In the second case the fragility analysis is carried out on a continuum structure, i.e., a tall building, in which double integration is required to evaluate the generalized turbulent wind load and the dynamic response in the frequency domain. The third example examines the computation of the generalized coupled wind load and response on a tall building in both along-wind and cross-wind directions. It is concluded that the GPU can perform computational tasks on average 10 times faster than the CPU.

Purpose: PRIL (proliferation-inducing ligand) is a newly identified member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family and modulates death ligand-induced apoptosis. Here, we investigated the effect of PRIL on cellular characteristics relating to tumor progression in human gastric cancer. Method: Recombinant lentivirus containing PRIL siRNA was constructed and then infected MGC803 and SGC7901 gastric cancer cells. MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] colony formation and cell cycle analysis were used to study the effect of PRIL knockdown on gastric cancer cell proliferation. Results: PRIL expression in lentivirus infected cells was significantly reduced as evidenced by quantitative real-time PCR. Cell viability and colony formation of MGC803 and SGC7901 cells were significantly hampered in PRIL knock-down cells. Moreover, the cell cycle was arrested at G2/M phase, elucidating the mechanism underlying the inhibitory effect of siRNA on cell proliferation. Conclusions: Our study indicated that PRIL functions in promoting cell growth, and lentivirus-mediated PRIL gene knockdown might be a promising strategy in the treatment of gastric cancer.

Objective: To explore the effect on radiosensitivity of arsenic trioxide ($As_20_3$) in conjunction with hyperthermia on the esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cell line. Method: Inhibition of EC-1 cell proliferation at different concentrations of $As_20_3$ was assessed using the methyl thiazolyl blue colorimetric method (MTT method), with calculation of $IC_{50}$ value and choice of 20% of the $IC_{50}$ as the experimental drug concentration. Blank control, $As_20_3$, hyperthermia, radiotherapy group, $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia, $As_20_3$ + radiotherapy, hyperthermia + radiotherapy and $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia + radiotherapy groups were established, and the cell survival fraction (SF) was calculated from flat panel colony forming analysis, and fitted by the 'multitarget click mathematical model'. Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to detect changes in cell apoptosis and the cell cycle. Results: $As_20_3$ exerted inhibitory effects on proliferation of esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cells, with an $IC_{50}$ of 18.7 ${\mu}mol/L$. After joint therapy of $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia + radiotherapy, the results of FCM showed that cells could be arrested in the $G_2$/M phase, and as the ratio of cells in $G_0/G_1$ and S phases decreased, cell death became more pronounced. Conclusion: $As_20_3$ and hyperthermia exert radiosensitivity effects on esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cells, with synergy in combination. Mechanistically, $As_20_3$ and hyperthermia mainly influence the cell cycle distribution of EC-1 esophageal carcinoma cells, decreasing the repair of sublethal damage and inducing apoptosis, thereby enhancing the killing effects of radioactive rays.

Complex formation between lithium (Li+) ions and electrolyte molecules would affect the ionic conductivity through the electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). We hence revisit the solvation number of Li+ in the most commonly used ethylene carbonate (EC) electrolyte. The solvation number n of Li+(EC)(n) in the first solvation shell of Li+ is estimated on the basis of the free energy calculated by the density functional theory combined with a hybrid solvation model where the explicit solvation shell of Li+ is immersed in a free volume of an implicit bulk solvent. This new hybrid solvation (implicit and explicit) model predicts the most probable solvation number (n = 4) and solvation free energy (-91.3 kcal mol(-1)) of Li+ in a good agreement with those predicted by calculations employing simpler solvation models (either implicit or explicit). The desolvation (n = 2) of Li-0(EC)(n) upon reduction near anodes is also well described with this new hybrid model.
