In this paper, we presented the IDL analysis technique which is intended to detect items containing explosives. The input signal of IDL is produced by the associated particle imageing (API) techniques including neutron methods with neutron generator and secondary radiation detection. The API method is based on the application of tagged neutron beams. Each 14MeV neutron in a beam has a tag, which is a signal from the alpha-detector corresponding to the moment of detection of the alpha particle produced together with the neutron. And the generator type of API is called associated particle sealed-tube neutron generator (APSTNG). As a result, we analyzed the chemical components of explosives substance with IDL, and found that the API methods remained to be the promising ones for explosives detection, but for better detection, it is more effective to use the combination of several neutron methods and signal classification methods.
