Effect of Substitutional Doping on Temperature Dependent Electrical Parameters of Amorphous Se-Te Semiconductors

        Neha Sharma,Sunanda Sharda,Dheeraj Sharma,Vineet Sharma,P. B. Barman,S.C. Katyal,Pankaj Sharma,S. K. Hazra 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.5

Steady state current-voltage characteristics of the amorphous (Se80Te20)98Y2 (Y = Ag, Bi, Ge, Cd) semiconductors at different temperatures are reported. The measurements were performed using direct-current voltage bias to understand the basic conductivity mechanism and to evaluate the impact of each substituent on electrical response. The space charge limited conduction mechanism, and the density of states near Fermi level have been calculated. The difference in electrical response due to different substitutions in the glassy matrix is analyzed.

Effect of Te on Linear and Non-linear Optical Properties of New Quaternary Ge-Se-Sb-Te Chalcogenide Glasses

        Neha Sharma,Sunanda Sharda,S.C. Katyal,Vineet Sharma,Pankaj Sharma 대한금속·재료학회 2014 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.10 No.1

We report linear and non-linear optical properties of a new quaternary chalcogenide glass series Ge19-ySe63.8Sb17.2Tey (y = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10). In linear optical properties; refractive index, extinction coefficient and the Tauc gap are reported and their variation with Te content has been discussed. In non-linear properties; third order nonlinear susceptibility and non-linear refractive index has been discussed. The variation of non-linear refractive index has also been reported with normalized photon energy. A correlation between the Tauc gap and nonlinear refractive index has been discussed. Results indicate that these materials may find applications in modern optical devices.

Squamous Metaplasia in Pleomorphic Adenoma: A Diagnostic and Prognostic Enigma

        Swati Sharma,Monica Mehendiratta,Nivedita Chaudhary,Vineet Gupta,Maulshree Kohli,Anjana Arora 대한병리학회 2018 Journal of Pathology and Translational Medicine Vol.52 No.6

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign salivary gland tumor. Histologically, squamous metaplasia has been reported in PA, but has rarely been documented as being extensive enough to cause significant misdiagnosis. Here, we present an unusual case of PA in a 50-yearold female patient presenting with swelling on the postero-lateral aspect of the palate for a week. Histopathologically, the tumor exhibited the features of conventional PA with extensive squamous metaplasia and giant keratotic lamellae in cyst-like areas. Such exuberant squamous metaplasia and keratin can be a diagnostic and prognostic pitfall and lead to overtreatment of the patient.

Addition of computed tomography chest increases the diagnosis rate in patients with suspected intestinal tuberculosis

( Saurabh Kedia ),( Raju Sharma ),( Sudheer Kumar Vuyyuru ),( Deepak Madhu ),( Pabitra Sahu ),( Bhaskar Kante ),( Prasenjit Das ),( Ankur Goyal ),( Karan Madan ),( Govind Makharia ),( Vineet Ahuja ) 대한장연구학회 2022 Intestinal Research Vol.20 No.2

Background/Aims: Intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) is difficult to diagnose due to poor sensitivity of definitive diagnostic tests. ITB may be associated with concomitant pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) which may remain undetected on chest X-ray. We assessed the role of contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) chest in detecting the prevalence of active PTB, and increasing the diagnostic yield in patients with suspected ITB. Methods: Consecutive treatment naïve patients with suspected ITB (n=200) who underwent CECT chest (n=88) and had follow-up duration>1 year were recruited in this retrospective study (February 2016 to October 2018). ITB was diagnosed in the presence of caseating granuloma, positive acid fast stain or culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis on biopsy, presence of necrotic lymph nodes (LNs) on CT enterography or positive response to anti-tubercular therapy. Evidence of active tuberculosis on CECT-chest was defined as presence of centrilobular nodules with or without consolidation/miliary nodules/thick-walled cavity/enlarged necrotic mediastinal LNs. Results: Sixty-five of eighty-eight patients (mean age, 33.8±12.8 years; 47.7% of females) were finally diagnosed as ITB (4-caseating granuloma on biopsy, 12-necrotic LNs on CT enterography, 1-both, and 48-response to anti-tubercular therapy) and 23 were diagnosed as Crohn’s disease. Findings of active TB on CECT chest with or without necrotic abdominal LNs were demonstrated in 5 and 20 patients, respectively. No patient with Crohn’s disease had necrotic abdominal LNs or active PTB. Addition of CECT chest in the diagnostic algorithm improved the sensitivity of ITB diagnosis from 26.2% to 56.9%. Conclusions: Addition of CECT chest significantly improves the sensitivity for definite diagnosis in a patient with suspected ITB. (Intest Res 2022;20:184-191)

      • Immunohistochemical Profile of Breast Cancer Patients at a Tertiary Care Hospital in New Delhi, India

        Doval, Dinesh Chandra,Sharma, Anila,Sinha, Rupal,Kumar, Kapil,Dewan, Ajay Kumar,Chaturvedi, Harit,Batra, Ullas,Talwar, Vineet,Gupta, Sunil Kumar,Singh, Shailendra,Bhole, Vidula,Mehta, Anurag Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.12

Background: To assess the immunohistochemical expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) neu receptor in breast cancer and their associations with various clinicopathological characteristics. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of women who presented with primary, unilateral breast cancer in the Department of Medical Oncology at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi, India during the period from January 2008 to December 2011. Data were retrieved from the medical records of the hospital including both early and locally advanced cancer cases. ER, PgR and HER2neu expression in these patients was assessed and triple negative patients were identified. Associations of triple negative and non-triple negative groups with clinicopathological characteristics were also evaluated. Results: A total of 1,284 women (mean age 52.1 years, 41.9% premenopausal) were included in the analysis. Hormone receptor positivity (ER and/or PgR) was seen in 63.4% patients, while 23.8% of tumors were triple negative. Only 23.0% were HER2 positive. Around 10.0% of tumors were both ER and HER2 positive. ER and PgR positivity was significantly associated with negative HER2 status (p-value <0.0001). Younger age, premenopausal status, higher tumor grade, lymph node negativity, advanced cancer stage, and type of tumor were strongly associated with triple negativity. Significantly, a smaller proportion of women had ductal carcinoma in situ in the triple negative group compared with the non-triple negative group (35.6% versus 60.8%, p-value<0.01). Conclusions: The present analysis is one of the largest studies from India. The majority of the Indian breast cancer patients seen in our hospital present with ER and PgR positive tumors. The triple negative patients tended to be younger, premenopausal, and were associated with higher tumor grades, negative lymph nodes status and lower frequency of ductal carcinoma in situ.

CdS Nanopowder and Nanofilm: Simultaneous Synthesis and Structural Analysis

        Suresh Kumar,Pankaj Sharma,Vineet Sharma 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.3

Chemical bath deposition technique has been used for simultaneous synthesis of CdS nanopowder and nanofilm. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) studies show a predominant α-CdS structure. Structural parameters show a random lattice disorder and bond length contraction leading to high density of nanopowder and nanofilm in comparison to standard CdS. The columnar structure growth of the nanofilm devoid of grain boundaries may be explored for window layers.

Automation Monitoring With Sensors For Detecting Covid Using Backpropagation Algorithm

( Pravin R. Kshirsagar ),( Hariprasath Manoharan ),( Vineet Tirth ),( Mohd Naved ),( Ahmad Tasnim Siddiqui ),( Arvind K. Sharma ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.7

This article focuses on providing remedial solutions for COVID disease through the data collection process. Recently, In India, sudden human losses are happening due to the spread of infectious viruses. All people are not able to differentiate the number of affected people and their locations. Therefore, the proposed method integrates robotic technology for monitoring the health condition of different people. If any individual is affected by infectious disease, then data will be collected and within a short span of time, it will be reported to the control center. Once, the information is collected, then all individuals can access the same using an application platform. The application platform will be developed based on certain parametric values, where the location of each individual will be retained. For precise application development, the parametric values related to the identification process such as sub-interval points and intensity of detection should be established. Therefore, to check the effectiveness of the proposed robotic technology, an online monitoring system is employed where the output is realized using MATLAB. From simulated values, it is observed that the proposed method outperforms the existing method in terms of data quality with an observed percentage of 82.

Genome sequencing and de novo and reference-based genome assemblies of Bos indicus breeds

        Chakraborty Abhisek,Bisht Manohar S.,Saxena Rituja,Mahajan Shruti,Pulikkan Joby,Sharma Vineet K. 한국유전학회 2023 Genes & Genomics Vol.45 No.11

Background Indian cattle breeds (Bos indicus) are known for their remarkable adaptability to hot and humid climates, higher nutritious quality of milk, better disease tolerance, and greater ability to perform in poor feed compared to taurine cattle (Bos taurus). Distinct phenotypic differences are observed among the B. indicus breeds; however, the whole genome sequences were unavailable for these indigenous breeds. Objective We aimed to perform whole genome sequencing to construct the draft genome assemblies of four B. indicus breeds; Ongole, Kasargod Dwarf, Kasargod Kapila, and Vechur (the smallest cattle of the world). Methods We sequenced the whole genomes using Illumina short-read technology, and constructed de novo and reference-based genome assemblies of these native B. indicus breeds for the first time. Results The draft de novo genome assemblies of B. indicus breeds ranged from 1.98 to 3.42 Gbp. We also constructed the mitochondrial genome assemblies (~ 16.3 Kbp), and yet unavailable 18S rRNA marker gene sequences of these B. indicus breeds. The genome assemblies helped to identify the bovine genes related to distinct phenotypic characteristics and other biological processes for this species compared to B. taurus, which are plausibly responsible for providing better adaptive traits. We also identified the genes that showed sequence variation in dwarf and non-dwarf breeds of B. indicus compared to B. taurus. Conclusions The genome assemblies of these Indian cattle breeds, the 18S rRNA marker genes, and identification of the distinct genes in B. indicus breeds compared to B. taurus will help in future studies on these cattle species.

Efficacy and tolerability of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in small bowel stricturing Crohn’s disease: a pilot study

( Bhaskar Kante ),( Pabitra Sahu ),( Saurabh Kedia ),( Sudheer K. Vuyyuru ),( Kapil Soni ),( Maneesh Singhal ),( Raju Sharma ),( Govind Makharia ),( Vineet Ahuja ) 대한장연구학회 2022 Intestinal Research Vol.20 No.2

Background/Aims: Existing therapeutic options for complicated Crohn’s disease (CD) like biologics and surgery are limited by inadequate long-term efficacy, cost, and adverse effects. Tissue hypoxia is important in CD pathogenesis and may be ameliorated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). We assessed the efficacy and tolerability of HBOT in small bowel stricturing CD. Methods: This pilot study included patients of small bowel stricturing CD (from April 2019 to January 2020) who underwent HBOT. These patients were refractory to conventional medical treatment or had multiple strictures not amenable to resection. Each session of HBOT was given for 60 minutes with a pressure of 1.5-2.5 atm. Clinical, biochemical responses and Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease (SIBD) questionnaire were evaluated at 2 and 6 months, and radiological response was evaluated at 6 months. Results: Fourteen patients (mean age, 42.9±15.7 years; male, 50%) were subjected to 168 HBOT sessions. Thirteen patients (92.7%) had strictures and 1 patient had enterocutaneous fistula in addition. Median number of HBOT sessions was 11 (range, 3-20) which were administered over a median of 4 weeks. Most patients tolerated it well except 1 who had hemotympanum. At 2 and 6 months of follow-up, 64.2% of patients had a clinical response, 50% and 64.2% of patients had clinical remission respectively. Steroid-free clinical remission was seen in 8 (57%) of patients with radiological improvement in 50%. There was a significant improvement in SIBD scores at 2-month follow-up (59.4 vs. 44.5, P=0.03). Conclusions: HBOT can be a safe and effective therapeutic option in patients with stricturing small bowel CD refractory to conventional medical treatment. (Intest Res 2022;20:231-239)

High mucosal cytomegalovirus DNA helps predict adverse short-term outcome in acute severe ulcerative colitis

( Saransh Jain ),( Divya Namdeo ),( Pabitra Sahu ),( Saurabh Kedia ),( Peush Sahni ),( Prasenjit Das ),( Raju Sharma ),( Vipin Gupta ),( Govind Makharia ),( Lalit Dar ),( Simon Pl Travis ),( Vineet Ah 대한장연구학회 2021 Intestinal Research Vol.19 No.4

Background/Aims: Predictors of short-term outcome of intravenous (IV) steroid therapy in acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) have been well described, but the impact of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection as a predictor of outcome remains debatable. We investigated the role of quantitative CMV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a predictor of short-term outcome in patients with ASUC. Methods: Consecutive patients with ASUC satisfying Truelove and Witts criteria hospitalized at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from May 2016 to July 2019 were included; all received IV steroid. The primary outcome measure was steroid-failure defined as the need for rescue therapy (with ciclosporin or infliximab) or colectomy during admission. AIIMS’ in-dex (ulcerative colitis index of severity >6 at day 1+fecal calprotectin >1,000 μg/g at day 3), with quantitative CMV PCR on biopsy samples obtained at initial sigmoidoscopy were correlated with the primary outcome. Results: Thirty of 76 patients (39%) failed IV corticosteroids and 12 (16%) underwent surgery. Patients with steroid failure had a significantly higher mucosal CMV DNA than responders (3,454 copies/mg [0-2,700,000] vs. 116 copies/mg [0-27,220]; P< 0.01). On multivariable analysis, mucosal CMV DNA load >2,000 copies/mg (odds ratio [OR], 10.2; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.6-39.7; P<0.01) and AIIMS’ index (OR, 39.8; 95% CI, 4.4-364.4; P< 0.01) were independent predictors of steroid-failure and need for colectomy. The combination correctly predicted outcomes in 84% of patients with ASUC. Conclusions: High mucosal CMV DNA ( >2,000 copies/mg) independently predicts failure of IV corticosteroids and short-term risk of colectomy and it has an additional value to the established markers of disease severity in patients with ASUC.
