Purpose - Given the significance of concerns raised about the global shift toward protectionism under trade policy uncertainty context, and echoed by requests to contribute to issues that concern a wider variety of stakeholders, this study aims to review new trade protection measures in response to the pandemic crisis and their effects on export performance from an emerging country’s exporters. Design/Methodology/Approach - Research data were gathered by surveying 613 export managers of different types of exporters in Vietnam from a list of exporters provided by Ministry of Industry and Trade, and then applied a regression model for analysis. Findings - The study demonstrated a negative relationship between firm export performance and six trade protectionism measures, including industrial subsidies, public-procurement restrictions, FDI restrictions, standards protectionism, green protectionism, and regional integration. Only restrictions on migrant workers had no appreciable impact on firm export performance. Additionally, only employee number, out of the three control factors, significantly and positively affected how well firms succeed in exporting. Research Implications - The study’s findings have significant ramifications and contributions to theory and practice in international trade for an emerging country to overcome new trade protectionism measures. To support firms in expanding export markets, the government of an emerging country should concentrate on establishing and developing policies to support exporters, especially small and medium enterprises. Firms should pursue a sustainable export strategy in light of the emergence of new trade protectionism in significant import markets.
Osteopontin contributes to late-onset asthma phenotypes in adult asthma patients
Hoang Kim Tu Trinh,Thuy Van Thao Nguyen,Seo-Hee Kim,Thi Bich Tra Cao,Quoc Quang Luu,김승현,박해심 생화학분자생물학회 2020 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.52 No.-
Patients with late-onset asthma (LOA) have poor clinical outcomes. Osteopontin (OPN) is associated with airway inflammation and remodeling. To investigate the role of OPN in LOA compared to early-onset asthma (EOA), serum OPN levels were compared between 131 adult asthma patients (48 LOA and 83 EOA patients) and 226 healthy controls (HCs). BALB/c mice were sensitized with ovalbumin with/without polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) from week 6 (A6 mice) or week 12 (A12 mice) after birth. Airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), cell counts, histology, and Spp1 expression were assessed. The levels of OPN, transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), chitinase 3-like 1 (CH3L1), and interleukin (IL) 5 were measured by ELISA. The expression of Smad3 phosphorylation and tissue transglutaminase 2 (TGM2) was evaluated by Western blot. The serum OPN levels were significantly higher in asthma patients than in HCs and in LOA patients than in those with EOA (P < 0.05) and were positively correlated with serum TGF-β1 and CH3L1 (r = 0.174, r = 0.264; P < 0.05). A12 mice showed elevated AHR with increased levels of OPN/TGF-β1/IL-5 in BALF and Spp1 compared to A6 mice. Poly(I:C) induced remarkable TGF-β1, CH3L1, Th2 cytokine, and OPN levels in BALF and the expression of phosphorylated Smad3, TGM2, and Spp1 in the lungs. OPN triggered TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling in the lungs, which was suppressed by dexamethasone and anti-IL5 antibody. In conclusion, aging and exposure to viral infections may induce OPN release and consequently modulate inflammation and TGF-β1/ Smad3-related remodeling, contributing to the development of LOA.
An Approach to Verify, Identify and Prioritize IDS Alerts
Tu Hoang Nguyen,JiaWei Luo,Humphrey Waita Njogu 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.7 No.6
Lack of effective alert management technique to verify, identify and prioritize alerts is a well-known problem that severely degrades the worthiness of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs). IDSs often appear problematic because of triggering huge number of non-interesting alerts which diminish the value and urgency of interesting alerts. An average commercial IDS reports tens of thousands alerts per day. Analysts rarely look at the voluminous alerts until a sign is reported by other security means because it is laborious and challenging task to identify interesting alerts. Alerts evaluated in this manner are often unverified, mis-prioritized, misinterpreted, ignored, misclassified, delayed and are given undue attention. So far none of the current alert management techniques appear to be effective. In this paper, we present our approach to verify, identify and prioritize alerts based on post processing of alerts. Central to our approach is the computation of new alert metrics in order to further describe and understand interestingness of alerts. We synergized Alert Verification and Alert Prioritization techniques to build an effective alert management technique. Our approach gives superior results when compared to other alert management techniques.

This research evaluates the competitiveness of tourism in An Giang province by applying the diamond model of Michael E. Porter. The analysis includes findings of (i) factor or input conditions, (ii) demand conditions, (iii) related and supporting industry, and, (iv) context for firm strategy and rivalry. The analyzed model shows that the tourism sector in An Giang duplicates the offering of other destinations, and the spiritual tourists make up a majority of tourists. Also, the tourism in An Giang targets the low end of the market, and competition in the tourism sector is mostly price - based completion. Therefore, the research recommends that the local government should improve the business environment bye enhanced infrastructure, education and promotional campaigns.
The Impact of COVID-19 on Individual Industry Sectors: Evidence from Vietnam Stock Exchange
Thi Hoang Lan TU,Tri M. HOANG 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.7
The paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the stock market prices. The vector autoregression model (VAR) has been used in this analysis to survey 341 stocks on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) for the period from January 23, 2020 to December 31, 2020. The empirical results obtained from the analysis of 11 economic sectors suggest that there is a statistically significant impact relationship between COVID-19 and the healthcare and utility industries. Additional findings show a statistically significant negative impact of COVID-19 on the utility share price at lag 1. Analysis of impulse response function (IRF) and forecast error variance decomposition (FEVD) show an inverse reaction of utility stock prices to the impact of COVID-19 and a gradual disappearing shock after two steps. Major findings show that there is a clear negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on share prices, and the daily increase in the number of confirmed cases, indicate that, in future disease outbreaks, early containment measures and positive responses are necessary conditions for governments and nations to protect stock markets from excessive depreciation. Utility stocks are among the most severely impacted shares on financial exchanges during a pandemic due to the high risk of immediate or irreversible closure of manufacturing lines and poor demand for basic amenities.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Platelets modulate asthma pathogenesis by forming the platelet‐eosinophil aggregation (PEA), which facilitates the activation of eosinophils. Platelets exhibit the purinergic receptor (P2Y12R), which responds to cysteinyl leukotriene E4 (LTE4). We have suggested that the combination of an antiplatelet drug (clopidogrel, [Clo]) and montelukast (Mon) would synergistically suppress asthma. BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally sensitized with ovalbumin (OVA) on days 0 and 14 and subsequently challenged on days 28‐30 and 42‐44. Mice were administered with Clo (10 mg/kg), Mon (10 mg/kg) or both drugs (Clo/Mon) orally 30 minutes before the OVA (1%) challenge on days 42‐44. Mice were assayed for airway hyper‐responsiveness (AHR) to methacholine and airway inflammation. Clopidogrel and montelukast attenuated the increased AHR; the combined treatment was more effective than a single treatment for total and eosinophil counts (all <I>P < </I>0.05). Levels of interleukin (IL)‐4, IL‐5, IL‐13, platelet factor 4, eosinophil peroxidase and LTE4 increased in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of asthmatic mice, but these levels decreased in mice treated with Clo/Mon (all <I>P < </I>0.05). Goblet cell hyperplasia decreased in response to Clo/Mon. Mouse platelets and eosinophils were isolated and co‐cultured for an in vitro assay with 10 µmol/L adenosine diphosphate (ADP), LTE4 (200 nmol/L), Mon (1 µmol/L), Clo (1 µmol/L) and Clo/Mon (1 µmol/L). Flow cytometry revealed that the increased formation of the PEA (%) was fully mediated by ADP and partly mediated by LTE4. Clo/Mon reduced ADP‐induced PEA formation and P‐selectin expression (<I>P < </I>0.05). In conclusion, Clo/Mon synergistically relieved asthma by inhibiting ADP‐mediated PEA formation.</P>

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the effect of electro-osmosis on lubricating the interface between the cement paste-based material and metal wall. A new experimental apparatus was developed and set up in this study. Two scales of cement paste-based materials were used and tested: cement paste and mortar. Tests performed were as follows: (i) range of potential difference varies from 5 to 30 V; (ii) range of metallic plate slope varies from 7° to 15°. The pre-movement time was reduced and the sample velocity was increased by increasing the potential difference and the slope. The rheological properties of two mixtures were determined to identify the characteristics of the fluid film at the interface that plays an important role in lubricating the sample. The permeability coefficient for managing the contact lubrication was also determined in this study.
