        Changes in Diagnostic Methods for Pulmonary Tuberculosis between 2005 and 2013

        Background: Diagnostic methods for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) have recently advanced. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in TB diagnostic tests that prompted the initiation of anti-TB treatment over time in South Korea, an industrialized country with an intermediate TB burden. Methods: Patients diagnosed with pulmonary TB in the first halves of 2005 and 2013 at a tertiary referral hospital were included. Diagnostic methods that prompted the initiation of anti-TB treatment were compared between the 2 groups of patients. Results: A greater proportion of patients were diagnosed with pulmonary TB using bronchoscopy in 2013 than in 2005 (26.7% vs. 6.6%, respectively; p<0.001), while the proportion of patients clinically diagnosed with pulmonary TB was lower in 2013 than in 2005 (24.7% vs. 49.0%, respectively; p<0.001). Additionally, more patients started anti-TB treatment based on positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results for Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA in 2013 than in 2005 (47.3% vs. 7.9%, respectively; p<0.001). Conclusion: The initiation of treatment for pulmonary TB in South Korea has become more frequently based on PCR and the use of bronchoscopic specimens.

        A Study on the Safe Route through the Analysis of the Density of the Gill Netters in the West Sea

        본 연구는 서해안에서 상선의 어구 손괴로 인한 추진기 장애를 예방하기 위해 연안자망어선의 월별분포를 제시하였다. 분석 방법은 2014년 1년간의 어선위치발신장치 데이터를 이용하였다. 조업 해구도를 기준으로 경·위도 30′× 30′크기의 해구별 간격으로 격자를 설정하였다. 총 56개 해구를 대상으로 격자를 구성하였다. 연구 결과 밀도지수가 가장 높았던 194해구는 어구 손괴가 없었다. 반면, 밀도지수가 상대적으로 작은 193해구는 상선의 주 통항경로에 어구가 설치되기 때문에 손괴가 발생했다. 이 분석을 바탕으로 어구 손괴는 밀도지수에 비례하지 않고 상선의 주 통항경로에 따라 손괴위험이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 상선의 안전항해를 위해 5월부터 9월까지 위도 34.5° ~ 35.5°, 경도 125.67° ~ 126°를 항행경보구역으로 통보하면 추진기 장애와 어구손괴와 같은 해양사고를 예방할 것이다. 따라서 상선이 193해구와 203해구를 항해할 때는 안전한 항해를 위해 위도 34.5° ~ 35.5°, 경도 125.5° ~ 125.67°을 추천한다. This study attempted to present the monthly distribution of the inshore gill netters for the prevention of propeller failure caused by the damage of fishing gear by the merchant vessels in the West Sea. This study was conducted using the transmitting device of fishing location (V-Pass) data for 1 year in 2014. The grid intervals are 30 minute × 30 minute (latitude × longitude) based on the section of the sea. A total of 56 sections were analyzed by constructing a grid. The results revealed that the section no. 194 with the highest density index showed no fishing gear damage accident. But the section no. 193 with a relatively lower density index showed more frequent fishing gear damage accident. It is because the section no. 193 is included in the main route of the merchant vessels. Based on this analysis, it is found that the fishing gears are not damaged in proportion to density index but risk of damage exists according to the main routes of merchant vessels. Therefore, for the safe navigation of the merchant vessels, notifying the waters of 34.5° ~ 35.5° at latitude and 125.67° ~ 126° at longitude, as a navigational warning area from May through September, will prevent marine accident, such as propeller failure and fishing gear damage. Accordingly, when the merchant vessels navigate in the section no. 193 and 203, the area of 34.5° ~ 35.5° at latitude and 125.5° ~ 125.67° at longitude is recommended for the safe navigation.

        Effect of Reaction Time on Optical Properties of CsPbBr₃ Perovskite Nanocrystals

        We have studied the optical and structural properties of CsPbBr₃ perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) fabricated with various reaction times. The temporal evolution of the ensemble optical properties, such as absorption and fluorescence (FL) spectra and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), was recorded under a set reaction temperature (170 ℃) and various amounts of time (5 s – 60 min). The FL intensity of the CsPbBr₃ NCs gradually decreased with increasing reaction time, and the observed PLQY of the CsPbBr₃ NCs ranged from less than 20% up to 35% because of the enlarged crystal size and the induced charge trap states. The FL peaks of as-obtained CsPbBr₃ NCs were tuned in the range of 516.8 to 526.8 nm with increasing reaction time as a result of the ripening phenomenon. Transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction analysis were performed to analyze the structural properties. The results revealed that the average edge length of CsPbBr₃ NCs with a reaction time of 5 s was 13.4 nm and confirmed that the cubic crystal structure was well ordered.

        Applications of Ship Domain Theory to Identify Risky Sector in VTS Area

        This paper describes the application method of bumper area defined in the ship domain theory and it is to identify risky sectors in VTS(Vessel Traffic Services) area. The final goal of this work is to develop early warning system providing the location information with high traffic risks in Mokpo VTS area and to prevent the human errors of VTS Officer(VTSO). The current goal of this paper is to find evaluation and detection method of risky sectors. The ratio between overlapped bumper area of each vessels and the summing area of a designated sector, Ratio to Evaluate Risk(RER) r is used as one of evaluation and detection parameter. The usability of overlapped bumper area is testified through three kinds of scenarios for various traffic situations. The marine traffic data used in the experiments is collected by AIS(Automatic Identification System) receiver and then compiled in the SQL(Structured Query Language) Server. Through the analysis of passing vessel‘s tracks within the boundary of Mokpo VTS area, the total of 11 sectors are identified as evaluation unit sector. As experiment results from risk evaluation for the 11 sectors, it is clearly known that the proposed method with RER r can provide the location information of high risky sectors which are need to keep traffic tracks of vessel movements and to maintain traffic monitoring by VTSO.

        Arteriovenous Malformations of the Brain Associated with Cerebral Aneurysms

        1981년부터 1993년 4월까지 계명대학교 동산의료원에서 가료한 뇌동정맥 기형 96례중 8례가 뇌동맥류를 동반하였고, 이중 다발성 뇌동맥류를 가진 3례가 있어 총 동맥류 수는 13개였다. 뇌동맥류를 동반한 예들과 동반하지 않은 예들의 평균연령을 비교한 바, 뇌동맥류를 동반하지 않은 예들은 26세 동반한 예들은 44세로써, 뇌동맥류를 동반한 예들에서 연령이 높았다(p<0.001). 뇌동맥류는 뇌혈관촬영상 뇌동정맥기형의 직경이 3㎝미만인 56례중 1례에서, 3~5㎝인 23례중 4례에서, 5㎝이상인 14례중 3례에서 동반되어, 뇌동맥류는 뇌동정맥기형의 크기가 큰 예들에서 동반되는 율이 높았다(p<0.05). 또한 총 동맥류 13개중 12개가 뇌동정맥 기형에 혈류를 공급하는 동맥의 근위부나 원위부에서 발견되었다. 치료는 한 예를 제외한 모든 예들에서 뇌동정맥기형을 제거하고 동시에 뇌동맥류를 결찰 하였다. 한 예에서 편측 시력상실이 야기되었으나 다른 예들에서는 좋은 결과를 얻었으며 사망예는 없었다. 따라서 저자들의 경험에 의하면 뇌동맥류의 발생에 뇌혈류의 증가가 관여한다는 설이 타당하고 또한 뇌 동맥류를 동반한 뇌혈관기형 환자들을 치료할 때 뇌동정맥기형을 수술시 뇌동맥류를 동시에 결찰하는 것이 좋다고 생각된다.

        Estimating Suitable Probability Distribution Function for Multimodal Traffic Distribution Function

        The purpose of this study is to find suitable probability distribution function of complex distribution data like multimodal. Normal distribution is broadly used to assume probability distribution function. However, complex distribution data like multimodal are very hard to be estimated by using normal distribution function only, and there might be errors when other distribution functions including normal distribution function are used. In this study, we experimented to find fit probability distribution function in multimodal area, by using AIS(Automatic Identification System) observation data gathered in Mokpo port for a year of 2013. By using chi-squared statistic, gaussian mixture model(GMM) is the fittest model rather than other distribution functions, such as extreme value, generalized extreme value, logistic, and normal distribution. GMM was found to the fit model regard to multimodal data of maritime traffic flow distribution. Probability density function for collision probability and traffic flow distribution will be calculated much precisely in the future.
