Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) are rare and can result in spinal cord dysfunction. We present one such case wherein the patient presented with a venous congestive myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a syrinx formation, spinal cord edema, and flow voids. Digital subtraction angiography confirmed the dural AVF, which was treated with embolization. The syrinx disappeared, other spinal cord changes improved, and the patient had remarkable clinical improvement. The case is presented to draw attention to the rare formation of a syrinx in a spinal dural arteriovenous fistula and its disappearance after successful embolization.

An epidemic infectious disease model consists of six compartments viz. Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, Quarantine, Recovered, and Virus with nonlinear saturation incidence rate is proposed to know the viral disease dynamics. There exist two biological equilibrium points for the model system. The system's local and global stability is done through Lyapunov's direct method about equilibrium points. The sensitivity analysis has been performed for the basic reproduction number and equilibrium points through the normalized forward sensitivity index. Sensitivity analysis shows that virus growth and quarantine rates are more sensitive parameters. In support of mathematical conclusions, numerical experimentation has been shown.

Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.
Propagation of Ao Mode through the Front Edge of a Delamination: Numerical and Experimental Studies
Rakesh Kumar Singh,Ramadas Chennamsetti 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.
Numerical and experimental studies carried out on the propagation of ultrasonic Lamb wave and its interaction with the front edgeof a delamination in a cross-ply and unidirectional composite laminates are presented in this paper. When the fundamental antisymmetricLamb mode (Ao) is incident at the leading (front) edge of a delamination, it undergoes reflection and transmission into thesub-laminates. Numerical simulations carried out on the interaction of the Ao mode with the edge of a semi-infinite delaminationrevealed that during this interaction, So mode is generated and propagate as AoSo (propagation of the So mode due to the incidentAo mode) mode in the top and bottom sub-laminates along with the incident Ao mode, which propagates as AoAo (propagation of theAo mode due to the incident Ao mode) mode. Transmission factors and power transmission coefficients of AoAo and AoSo modes onan assortment of excitation frequencies – 150 kHz, 175 kHz, 200 kHz and 225 kHz, and thickness ratios were computed. Experimentalvalidation of results arrived through numerical simulations, was also carried out employing air-coupled ultrasonic transducers.
In-situ braking torque and temperature analysis of two-wheeler drum brake in friction braking
Rakesh Kumar Singh,Chiranjit Sarkar 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.4
Generally, two-wheelers consist of a drum brake on the rear wheel. The performance of the brake deteriorates drastically due to the continuous use of brakes during driving. Thus, studying brake performance in the worst conditions, where brakes are applied back to back after a fixed time interval, becomes essential. To fulfill this, the in-situ braking torque behavior of the two-wheeler drum brake is studied experimentally, and the in-situ thermal behavior is studied experimentally and numerically in the present paper. A new test rig is designed using a motor, torque sensor, data acquisition system, and drum brake of the twowheeler. The effect of speed and braking cycles on the torque and thermal behavior of drum brake is studied. The torque required for approximately the same deceleration is dependent on the speed of drum and brake cycles. Similarly, results are found for thermal analysis, and drum surface temperature depends on the speed of the drum. Moreover, the drum surface temperature increases steadily with the increase of brake cycles.

Terminalia chebula is one of the traditional medicines used in the treatment of many diseases. In the present work, different concentrations of various organic and aqueous extracts (solvent-free) of T. chebula were tested on fibroblast (L929) and keratinocytes cells to evaluate its biocompatible concentration by using MTT and live-dead viability/cytotoxic assay. These extracts were found to be effective in decreasing the ammonia accumulation in the media, thereby reducing its toxic effect on cells. DPPH assay further confirmed the free-radical scavenging ability of the extracts which increased with the increase in concentration of each extract. Cell proliferation/apoptosis, cytoskeletal structure, and ECM production were further evaluated by live-dead assay and phalloidin/cytokeratin staining, respectively. The cytoskeletal structure and ECM secretion of the cells treated with extracts showed higher cellular activity in comparison to control. In conclusion, we have demonstrated the effect of these extracts of T. chebula on both types of skin cells and optimized concentration in which it could be used as a bioactive component for wound healing applications by increasing cell proliferation and decreasing free-radical production without affecting the normal cellular matrix. It can also find applications in other therapeutics applications where ammonia toxicity is a limiting factor.

Sukhbir Singh Sangwan,Rakesh Garg,Paritosh Gogna,Zile Singh Kundu,Vinay Gupta,Pradeep Kamboj 대한척추외과학회 2014 Asian Spine Journal Vol.8 No.4
Study Design: Prospective cohort study. Purpose: Evaluation of the clinico-radiological outcome and complications of limited laminectomy and restorative spinoplasty in spinal canal stenosis. Overview of Literature: It is critical to achieve adequate spinal decompression, while maintaining spinal stability. Methods: Forty-four patients with degenerative lumbar canal stenosis underwent limited laminectomy and restorative spinoplasty at our centre from July 2008 to December 2010. Four patients were lost to follow-up leaving a total of 40 patients at an average final follow-up of 32 months (range, 24–41 months). There were 26 females and 14 males. The mean±standard deviation (SD) of the age was 64.7±7.6 years (range, 55–88 years). The final outcome was assessed using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score. Results: At the time of the final follow-up, all patients recorded marked improvement in their symptoms, with only 2 patients complaining of occasional mild back pain and 1 patient complaining of occasional mild leg pain. The mean±SD for the preoperative claudication distance was 95.2±62.5 m, which improved to 582±147.7 m after the operation, and the preoperative anterio-posterior canal diameter as measured on the computed tomography scan was 8.3±2.1 mm, which improved to 13.2±1.8 mm postoperatively. The JOA score improved from a mean±SD of 13.3±4.1 to 22.9±4.1 at the time of the final follow-up. As for complications, dural tears occurred in 2 patients, for which repair was performed with no additional treatment needed. Conclusions: Limited laminectomy and restorative spinoplasty is an efficient surgical procedure which relieves neurogenic claudication by achieving sufficient decompression of the cord with maintenance of spinal stability.
Nitric Oxide Metabolite Concentration in Cerebrospinal Fluid: Useful as a Prognostic Marker?
Saurabh Singh,Jyoti Prakash,Rakesh Singh,Ashish Verma,Hemant Bansal 대한척추외과학회 2016 Asian Spine Journal Vol.10 No.5
Study Design: Prospective study. Purpose: To establish the significance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) nitric oxide metabolite (NOx) concentration in acute spinal cord injury (SCI) patients to assess the neurological severity and prognosis. Overview of Literature: Quantitative analysis of specific biomarkers in CSF will assess neurological severity more accurately and permit the formulation of a more precise management plan. Methods: Forty SCI patients represented the cases and 20 lower limb injury patients were the controls. NOx concentration in CSF was measured at week 1, 2, and 4 by Griess method. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, T2-weighted) done in each case to measure cord edema and neurological severity was assessed using the Frankel classification. Results: CSF NOx concentration peaked at week 2 and declined to normal by week 4. The concentration remained normal in controls. Mean NOx concentration was directly proportional to the severity of acute SCI as correlated with cord edema seen in MRI and neurological severity assessed. Conclusions: CSF NOx concentration can be considered a specific quantitative biomarker in acute stage of SCI to predict the severity and prognosis of SCI patients.
