This study investigated instructional methods for fractional division emphasizing algebraic thinking with sixth graders. Specifically, instructional elements for fractional division emphasizing algebraic thinking were derived from literature reviews, and the fractional division instruction was reorganized on the basis of key elements. The instructional elements were as follows: (a) exploring the relationship between a dividend and a divisor; (b) generalizing and representing solution methods; and (c) justifying solution methods. The instruction was analyzed in terms of how the key elements were implemented in the classroom. This paper focused on the fractional division instruction with problem contexts to calculate the quantity of a dividend corresponding to the divisor 1. The students in the study could explore the relationship between the two quantities that make the divisor 1 with different problem contexts: partitive division, determination of a unit rate, and inverse of multiplication. They also could generalize, represent, and justify the solution methods of dividing the dividend by the numerator of the divisor and multiplying it by the denominator. However, some students who did not explore the relationship between the two quantities and used only the algorithm of fraction division had difficulties in generalizing, representing, and justifying the solution methods. This study would provide detailed and substantive understandings in implementing the fractional division instruction emphasizing algebraic thinking and help promote the follow-up studies related to the instruction of fractional operations emphasizing algebraic thinking.
Emotional Leadership, Leader Legitimacy, and Work Engagement in Retail Distribution Industry
Seonmi HA,Sa-Jean YOUN,문재승 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.7
Purpose: The study examines how emotional leadership affects employee attitude towards work engagement. Leader legitimacy perception is chosen as the mediating variable to understand the effect of emotional leadership on employee work engagement. Research design, data and methodology: The research model is based on theory and empirical research findings in order to examine the mediating effect of leader legitimacy perception on the relationship between the manager’s emotional leadership and employee work engagement. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among 188 employees of domestic retail distributors. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and survey data confirmed the construct, and the hypothesis was tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM). Results: a) Emotional leadership has positive influence on leader legitimacy; b) Leader legitimacy is positively related to work engagement; c) Leader legitimacy mediates a positive relationship between emotional leadership and work engagement. However, there is no direct effect on work engagement (of employees) from emotional leadership standpoint. Conclusion: Based on the empirical results, implications and future research directions are discussed.
A method to determine the lengths of MCTA and CTA with the required QoS in IEEE 802.15.3
Seonmi Lee,Bong Dae Choi 한국산업응용수학회 2007 한국산업응용수학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.3 No.2
The IEEE 802.15.3 aims at providing high data rate and large file transfer applications such as video and digital image, while satisfying the requirements of low complexity, low cost and low power consumption in a personal operating space with the radius of maximum 10 meters. In this paper we determine the length of MCTA (Management Channel Time Allocation) which guarantees that all devices make successful reservation with high probability, and we also determine the length of CTA (Channel Time Allocation) for each traffic which satisfies delay bound and required loss probability. For the case that an access algorithm for MCTA is p-persistent CSMA, the length of MCTA is obtained by non-stationary Markov chain method and the length of CTA is obtained by a GI/DN/1/M queueing model.
Classification of mental fatigue induced by sympathetic or parasympathetic hyperactivity
Seonmi Jeon,Suejin Noh,Mincheol Whang 대한인간공학회 2014 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.5
Many studies have suggested that mental fatigue demanding cognitive load is mediated by psychobiological or cardiorespiratory mechanisms. Especially studies of this type underline that alterations of autonomic activities such as decreased parasympathetic activity and increased sympathetic activity are caused in fatigue-inducing mental tasks. However, mental fatigue induced by increased parasympathetic activity has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to examine how mental fatigue is classified depending on sympathetic or parasympathetic hyperactivity. A total of 27 participants took part in the study performing subjective evaluation and the task for about 40 min. During the performance of the task, both pulse rate variability and accuracy were analyzed in real-time. All participants induced by cognitive load were divided into three groups like a sympathetic fatigue group, a parasympathetic fatigue group, and a fatigue group with irregular patterns. This indicate the technology for dividing mental fatigue would contribute to on-line applications to perceive fatigue elevated by sustained mental work in aerospace job and brain-computer interface / human-computer interface (HCI/BCI).

However, mental fatigue induced by increased parasympathetic activity has not been thoroughly investigated. A total of 27 participants took part in the study performing an ERP task for about 40 min. During the performance of the task, the ERP, heart rate variability, and accuracy were analyzed in real-time. All participants induced by cognitive load were divided into three groups like a sympathetic fatigue group, a parasympathetic fatigue group, or a fatigue group with irregular patterns.
