Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), a unique class of polymers, combine the processing ease of thermoplastics with the advanced properties of thermoset rubbers. TPEs can be remelted several times without any significant loss of properties, and can be molded into complex shapes using conventional processing equipment. Due to their characteristics, TPEs are ideal for use in a variety of applications in the automotive field. Although the TPE market of the Republic of Korea is currently at its niche, the increasing manufacturing push from major companies is expected to open up multiple opportunities for these products in the automotive sector. This manuscript highlights a detailed technological trend of the global automotive thermoplastic elastomers market.

Recently, contact guidance of cells using micro/nanopatterns has been widely investigated for mimicking in vivo environments. In this study, we used different types of micro-patterned surface as contact guidance for enhancing cell adhesion and growth. Micro/nanopatterns were created by stretching PDMS membrane exposed to plasma. Three different types of cells were cultured for 3 days on patterned PDMS surface to analyze cell growth and proliferation with phase contrast microscope. Also, the distribution of angle between patterns axis and cells axis were measured. Cultured cells on patterned PDMS surface were elongated along contact guidance and morphology of them was changed according to size of pattern and type of cell. This study will be helpful for the study on cell-surface interactions.
세포외 기질 물질의 물리·화학적 영향에 따른 심근세포(HL-1)의 성장 연구

본 연구에서는 세포의 성장속도, 배양표면 부착, 체내 특이성을 유지에 중요한 요소인 세포외 기질 물질에 따른 심근세포주(HL-1 cell)의 성장, 생존률 및 표현형 등을 분석했다. 서로 다른 5 가지의 세포외 기질 환경을 조성하여 세포 성장에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석했다. 세포외 기질 물질이 처리된 배양 표면의 물리적인 형태는 원자현미경을 통하여 분석했으며, 세포의 표면부착, 성장 및 증식과 생존률 및 표현형은 역상형광현미경 및 면역염색법을 통해 분석했다. 본 연구를 통하여 서로 다른 세포외 기질 물질이 세포의 부착 및 성장 속도에 영향을 미치며, 심근세포의 특이성을 나타내는 단백질의 형성에도 차이를 보이는 것을 확인했다. The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a key factor affecting cell growth and adhesion to the culture surface, and it is also important for maintaining the innate characteristics of cells. Here, we describe the effects of the ECM on cardiomyocyte (HL-1 cell line) growth, viability, phenotype, and contractile ability. Five different ECM materials were investigated to analyze their effects on the cell growth. The physical morphology of the ECM-coated surfaces was scanned with an atomic force microscope (AFM), and the attachment, growth, proliferation, viability, and phenotype of the cells were analyzed using fluorescence immunostaining and an inverted phase contrast microscope.
조현병 환자에서 성별에 따른 검지 대 약지의 길이 비율과 뇌파 동시성의 관련성

Objectives Prenatal testosterone is known to influence both cerebral laterality and 2nd to 4th digit ratio (2D : 4D). Epigenetic changes are thought to play some role in it. We studied sex-related differences between 2D : 4D and cerebral laterality in patients with schizophrenia and controls to examine the effects of prenatal testosterone in the development of schizophrenia. Methods Forty one men (18 schizophrenic patients and 23 controls) and 40 women (17 schizophrenic patients and 23 controls) were recruited from one psychiatric hospital in Korea. The 2D : 4D and electroencephalographic (EEG) coherence in 19 channels (66 pairs of interhemispheric coherence and 54 pairs of intrahemispheric coherence) were measured. The sex-related statistical analyses between 2D : 4D and EEG coherence in controls and patients with schizophrenia were performed using multiple regression. Results In male patients, the relationship between 2D : 4D and right intrahemispheric EEG coherence showed mainly positive correlation in delta and theta frequency bands, while it showed negative correlation in male controls. In female patients, the relationship between 2D : 4D and interhemispheric EEG coherence showed stronger positive correlation in alpha and beta frequency bands, while it showed weaker positive correlation in female controls. Conclusions Low prenatal testosterone may play certain roles in altered correlation between 2D : 4D and cerebral laterality in schizophrenia and the development of schizophrenia by epigenetic mechanism.
위성 토양수분 데이터 및 COSMIC-ray 데이터 보정/검증을 위한 성균관대학교 내 FDR 센서 토양수분 측정 연구(SM-FC) 및 데이터 분석

본 연구에서는 수원 성균관대학교 내 Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) 토양수분 측정 장비 및 COSMIC-ray 중성자 측정 장비를 통한 토양수분 지점 관측 사이트를 확립하였다. 또한 양질의 토양수분 데이터 확보를 위해 연구지역 내 토질실험, 토질별 FDR 토양수분 데이터 및 COSMIC-ray 중성자 개수의 시계열 분석, 관측한 토양수분 데이터와 위성 기반 토양수분 데이터와의 비교분석을 실시하였다. 2014년도부터 6개 지점에서 표층으로부터 5 cm에서 40 cm까지 총 24개의 FDR 센서를 5~10 cm 깊이별로 설치하여 토양수분 데이터를 측정하였다. 해당 지점들의 토질 분석결과, Sand에서 Loamy Sand까지의 다양한 토질이 불균질한 층을 이루어 분포되어 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 측정된 토양수분 데이터는 강우 데이터와 높은 상관성을 보이며, 위성 산출 토양수분 데이터와의 비교에서도 상대적으로 높은 상관관계와 낮은 평균제곱근편차(Root mean square deviation, RMSD)값을 보여주었다. 2014년도 설치 지역 토양수분 데이터의 신뢰도가 확보됨에 따라 2015년도에는 10개의 FDR 토양수분 측정 장비 및 COSMIC-ray 중성자 측정 장비가 추가로 설치되어 성균관대학교의 Soil Moisture site with FDR and COSMIC-ray(SM-FC) 연구지역이 구축되었다. SM-FC에 설치된 COSMIC-ray 중성자 측정 장비의 최초 검증을 위해 2015년 8~11월의 COSMIC-ray 중성자 데이터 및 FDR 토양수분 데이터가 활용되었다. 중성자기반 토양수분 값과 전체 지점 FDR 토양수분 평균값을 비교한 결과 매우 높은 상관관계를 볼 수 있었다 (상관계수 0.95). 이러한 연구를 통해 성균관대학교 SM-FC는 향후 한반도 지역 위성 및 모델 토양수분 데이터를 검증하는 대표 연구지역이 될 것으로 기대된다. In this study, Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) and COSMIC-ray soil moisture (SM) stations were installed at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea. To provide reliable information about SM, soil property test, time series analysis of measured soil moisture, and comparison of measured SM with satellite-based SM product are conducted. In 2014, six FDR stations were set up for obtaining SM. Each of the stations had four FDR sensors with soil depth from 5 cm to 40 cm at 5~10 cm different intervals. The result showed that study region had heterogeneous soil layer properties such as sand and loamy sand. The measured SM data showed strong coupling with precipitation. Furthermore, they had a high correlation coefficient and a low root mean square deviation (RMSD) as compared to the satellite-based SM products. After verifying the accuracy of the data in 2014, four FDR stations and one COSMIC-ray station were additionally installed to establish the Soil Moisture site with FDR and COSMIC-ray, called SM-FC. COSMIC-ray-based SM had a high correlation coefficient of 0.95 compared with mean SM of FDR stations. From these results, the SM-FC will give a valuable insight for researchers into investigate satellite- and model-based SM validation study in South Korea.

Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Many methods which analyze noise transfer path have been generally used for structure-borne noise. These methods<br/> are useful in solving particular problem but do not quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of<br/> a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow measurement has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. This paper identifies transfer path of booming noise of a car with in-line 3 cylinder diesel engine using the vibrational power flow measurement and vibro-acoustic transfer function. It is found that the main source of noise is the rear roll mount.
