Mechanical irritation by protruding bone: A possible cause of breast implant rupture
Matthias Michael Aitzetmüller,David Johannes Haslhofer,Raphael Wenny,Manfred Schmidt,Dominik Duscher,Georg Michael Huemer 대한성형외과학회 2018 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.45 No.5
Although breast implants have been in clinical use for almost 6 decades and have undergone considerable development during this time, implant rupture is still a dreaded long-term complication. Some obvious external factors, such as trauma, can lead to implant rupture, but many studies have reported a high rate of “spontaneous” implant rupture. Herein, we present two cases with the aim of raising awareness of a new possible cause of “spontaneous” implant rupture: mechanical irritation by bony protrusions.
Spinal Deformity Surgery: A Critical Review of Alignment and Balance
Matthias Pumberger,Hendrik Schmidt,Michael Putzier 대한척추외과학회 2018 Asian Spine Journal Vol.12 No.4
Correction of the overall coronal and/or sagittal plane deformities is one of the main predictors of successful spinal surgery. In routine clinical practice, spinal alignment is assessed using several spinal and pelvic parameters, such as pelvic incidence and tilt, sacral slope, lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, and sagittal vertical axis. Standard values have been defined for all these parameters, and the formulas of correction have been set for determining the surgical strategy. However, several factors can potentially bias these formulas. First, all standard values are measured using conventional plain radiographs and are, therefore, prone to bias. The radiologist, measuring surgeon, and patient are possible confounding influencing factors. Second, spino-pelvic compensatory effects and biomechanically relevant structures for the patient’s posture, including ligaments, tendons, and muscles, have received minimal consideration in the literature. Therefore, even in cases of appropriately planned deformity correction surgeries, complications, revision rates, and surgical outcomes significantly vary. This study aimed to illustrate the current clinical weaknesses of the assessment of spinal alignment and the importance of holistically approaching the musculoskeletal system for any spinal deformity surgery. We believe that our detailed insights regarding spinal, sagittal, and coronal alignments as well as the considerations of an individual’s spinal balance will contribute toward improvement in routine patient care.

Sports sponsorship is a core element of brand communication and one of the most effective and demanded tools in marketing. In the context of football, jersey sponsorship agreements dramatically increased over the last decade in terms of deal volume. Another current brand communication trend is the brand strategy of placing brands into entertainment media, especially in video games, so called in-game advertising (IGA). Against that background, the current study addresses the short-term effects of IGA on consumer’s implicit and explicit brand knowledge after the sponsor brand has been exposed in a video game. The findings of the laboratory research showed that the IGA exposure of sponsor brands, which was simulated in the current study as a virtual consumer-brand interaction within a playfully football game, was primarily effective to enhance brand-related associations on an implicit level, but not on an explicit level.

Sports Sponsorship is considered to be one of the most effective tools in marketing. However, in order to assess the effectiveness of sponsoring activities in customer’s mind, science and business practice often refer to explicit measures such as self-reports or focus interviews. Such aligned conventional measurement approach is missing mental processes which run without awareness, so-called implicit processes, taking place and activity hidden in the unconscious mind. Against that background, the goal of the current work is to shed further light on the impact of athlete sponsorship on dual processes underlying customer’s associations toward a brand.

Sports Sponsorship is considered to provide a highly valuable communication environment for companies to leverage brand equity. However, effectiveness evaluations of sponsorship activities mainly focus on explicit self-reports or focus interviews. Such communication evaluations do not take into account research from psychology demonstrating that associations and judgments are often activated and strongly influenced by implicit (automatic) processes, with no (or only little) conscious awareness of such information processing. Against that background, the goal of the current work is to shed further light on the impact of in-game advertising as innovative sponsor-linked marketing tactic on the dual brand knowledge–incorporating both implicit and explicit information processing–as key success indicator of sport sponsorship.
Homoepitaxial ZnO Thin Films Fabricated by Using Pulsed-Laser Deposition
Holger von Wenckstern,Matthias Brandt,Heidemarie Schmidt,Christian Hanisch,Gabriele Benndorf,Holger Hochmuth,Michael Lorenz,Marius Grundmann 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.5
ZnO thin films were deposited homoepitaxially by using pulsed-laser deposition on ZnO wafers grown by using the hydrothermal method. The dominant shallow donor level in the nominally undoped thin films is AlZn, as suggested by thermal admittance spectroscopy and low temperature photoluminescence measurements. The homoepitaxial ZnO:P thin films are n-conducting in the as-grown state, which facilitates investigations by Hall effect measurements. The Hall mobility of such ZnO:P thin lms is higher than that of heteroepitaxial ZnO thin lms and its temperature dependence is similar to that of ZnO single crystals grown by seeded chemical vapor transport.
Volcanic aerosol layers observed with multiwavelength Raman lidar over central Europe in 2008-2009
Mattis, Ina,Siefert, Patric,Mü,ller, Detlef,Tesche, Matthias,Hiebsch, Anja,Kanitz, Thomas,Schmidt, Jö,rg,Finger, Fanny,Wandinger, Ulla,Ansmann, Albert American Geophysical Union 2010 Journal of Geophysical Research Vol.115 No.d2

In the framework of regular European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET) observations, aerosol layers have been monitored with a multiwavelength aerosol Raman lidar in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere over Leipzig (51.4 degrees N, 12.4 degrees E), Germany, since the summer of 2008. The origins of these layers are eruptions of different volcanoes on the Aleutian Islands, Kamchatka, Alaska, and on the Kuril Islands. FLEXPART transport simulations show that the volcanic aerosol is advected from Alaska to central Europe within about 7 days. The aerosol layers typically occurred in the upper troposphere above 5 km height and in the lower stratosphere below 25 km height. The optical depths of the volcanic aerosol layers are mostly between 0.004 and 0.025 at 532 nm. The wavelength dependence of the backscatter coefficients and extinction coefficients indicate Angstrom exponents from 1.0-2.0. Lidar ratios in the stratosphere are found in the range from 30-60 sr (355 nm) and 30-45 sr (532 nm). The estimation of the effective radius, surface-area, and mass concentrations of a volcanic aerosol layer, observed well within the stratosphere at end of August 2009, reveals values of 0.1-0.2 mu m, 5-10 mu m(2) cm(-3), and 0.3-0.5 mu g m(-3), respectively.
