The hot deformation behavior of advanced reduced-activation alloy (ARAA) was investigated using hot torsion tests. Thefl ow stress decreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The fl ow behavior demonstratedthe typical dynamic recrystallization (DRX). Based on the constitutive analysis of peak stress, the activation energy for hotdeformation was found to be 330.3 kJ mol −1 . Peak stress was analyzed as a function of the Zener–Hollomon parameter, andcalculated and experimental values were in good agreement. A DRX kinetic model for ARAA was derived with deformationconditions based on the Avrami-type model. It was confi rmed that the volume fraction of dynamically recrystallized grainsincreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The necklace structure and grain boundarybulging were observed in the deformed microstructure of ARAA. The suggested DRX mechanism for ARAA during hotworking is discontinuous DRX.

Background/Aims: The prevalence of reflux esophagitis (RE) has been reported up to 12% in Korea, and seems being increased. However, epidemiological data for long-term trend are scarce. Moreover, there is no published report about the prevalence of RE in Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces. Therefore, we analyzed the prevalence of RE during the recent 12 years in Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces and also analyzed associated risk factors. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 8,446 age and gender adjusted subjects who had visited a health promotion center for health check-up including esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Results: The mean age was 43.3±13.4 years. The overall prevalence of RE was 2.8%. The prevalences of RE in health check up subject from 1997 to 1999, from 2000 to 2002, from 2003 to 2005, and from 2006 to 2008 were 0.3%, 1.2%, 2.8%, and 6.8%, respectively. On the univariate analysis, male gender, high body mass index (BMI), obesity (BMI≥25 kg/m2), and hypertriglyceridemia were significantly related with presence of RE. On the multivariate analysis, male gender and obesity were independent risk factors of RE. Conclusion: The prevalence of RE is increasing recently in Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces and male gender and obesity are independent risk factors of this disease.(Korean J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2009;15:124-129)

Background: Cage subsidence after oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) induces restenosis and adversely affects patient outcomes. Many studies have investigated the causes of subsidence, one of which is endplate fracture (EF). This study aimed to identify predictors of EF after OLIF. Methods: This retrospective study reviewed consecutive patients who underwent OLIF at a single institute between August 2019 and February 2022. A total of 104 patients were enrolled. The patients’ demographic data and surgical details were collected through chart reviews. Radiographic variables were measured. Related variables were also analyzed using binomial logistic regression, dividing each group into those with versus without EF. Results: EF occurred at 30 of 164 levels (18.3%), and the binary logistic analysis revealed that sex (odds ratio [OR], 11.07), inferior endplate concave depth (OR, 1.95), disc wedge angle (OR, 1.22), lumbar lordosis (OR, 1.09), pelvic incidence (OR, 1.07), sagittal vertical axis (OR, 1.02), sacral slope (OR, 0.9), L3–4 level (OR, 0.005), and L4–5 level (OR, 0.004) were significantly related to EF. Conclusions: OLIF in older Asian patients should be performed carefully after recognizing the high possibility of EF and confirming the factors that should be considered preoperatively.
A Pilot Study of 1% Pimecrolimus Cream for the Treatment of Childhood Segmental Vitiligo
( Woo Haing Shim ),( Sung Won Suh ),( Seung Wook Jwa ),( Margaret Song ),( Hoon Soo Kim ),( Hyun Chang Ko ),( Byung Soo Kim ),( Moon Bum Kim ) 대한피부과학회 2013 Annals of Dermatology Vol.25 No.2
There is as yet no effective and safe treatment for vitiligo. One percent pimecrolimus cream, a topical calcineurin inhibitor, has been tried for the treatment of vitiligo, with its therapeutic efficacy having mostly been reported in non- segmental vitiligo. However, questions about the therapeutic efficacy of 1% pimecrolimus cream have remained unanswered regarding segmental vitiligo. Objective: The aim of this study was to study the therapeutic efficacy and safety of 1% pimecrolimus cream for segmental childhood vitiligo. Methods: Nine childhood patients with segmental vitiligo were treated with 1% pimecrolimus cream twice daily for three months, after which good responders were scheduled to continue with the 1% pimecrolimus cream monotherapy. The efficacy and safety of this treatment were determined by the levels of repigmentation, initial response time and the presence of adverse events including burning, dryness, stinging and itching. Results: Four of nine patients achieved mild to moderate responses after three months of treatment and thus continued with treatment. Among these four patients, three achieved an excellent response and one patient achieved a moderate response, with a mean treatment duration of 7.3 months. Transient local burning sensation was the most common adverse event. In comparison with the patients with poor response, those patients with good response showed a shorter disease duration (8.5±10.5 mo vs. 13.4±10.1 mo), more frequent facial involvement (4/4 patients vs. 3/5 patients) and earlier initial response after treatment (1.0±0.0 mo vs. 2.0±1.0 mo). Conclusion: This study suggests that 1% pimecrolimus cream is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for segmental childhood vitiligo.
Inexplicable but real phenomenon: rapidly regressed

Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is a type of spindle cell malignancy that arises from the vascular endothelium, usually presenting as violaceous papules and plaques. KS development is invariably linked with human herpesvirus (HHV)-8 infection. Almost spontaneous regressions of KS have been previously described in the iatrogenic type. Herein, we present a classic KS in immunocompetent patient showing rapid regression after biopsy. A 78-year-old male presented with relatively well-defined erythematous patches on forehead, Rt. upper eyelid and chin, and violaceous papule on nose. His medical and family histories were noncontributory. The patient denied history of recent overseas travel, homosexual or unnatural sexual practices, and serum anti-HIV antibody was negative. A histopathologic examination from the nose revealed typical findings of KS and tumor cells showed positive staining for CD31, CD34, and factor VIII-related antigen. Polymerase chain reaction in a biopsy specimen was positive for HHV-8. Without specific treatment, the lesion rapidly regressed within 2 weeks. It is generally accepted that immune status plays an important role for KS. As viral wart disappear after biopsy occasionally, it is possible that the biopsy may have then exposed antigens and induced an immunologic reaction, which led to the rapid regression of KS.
Effects of Long-term Exposure of High and Low Humidity on Thin-film Humidity Sensors
( Sang-wook Lee ),( Byung Il Choi ),( Jong Chul Kim ),( Sang-bong Woo ) 한국센서학회 2018 센서학회지 Vol.27 No.6
The effects of long-term exposure of high and low humidity on thin-film humidity sensors are investigated. Five commercially available thin-film humidity sensors are initially calibrated in a humidity chamber as a reference before longterm exposure to high and low humidity. Then, the sensors are kept in a high-humidity environment (~95 %rh) for four months. After the exposure, the sensors are calibrated in the same manner as the initial calibration. Consequently, the device reading values from the humidity sensors are elevated up to about 5 %rh. Interestingly, the degree of elevation by the high-humidity exposure shows a negative correlation with the price of the humidity sensors. Humidity sensors are then kept in a low-humidity environment (~10 %rh) for another four months. After the exposure, a calibration similar to the initial calibration is performed. As a result, the device reading from humidity sensors is decreased, indicating a recovery from the effect of high-humidity exposure. The durability test conducted in this study provides experimental evidence for the use of thin-film humidity sensors in high-humidity environments such as greenhouses and food factories for a long period of time.
