Objectives. The purpose is to investigate effect of septoplasty and widened nasal patency on voice quality. Methods. Fifty patients who undergone septoplasty were included in the study. Thirty-three people who had similar age and distribution were enrolled as control group. Before and 1 and 3 months after surgery, anterior rhinomanometry, voice analysis by Multi-Dimensional Voice Program, and spectrographic analysis were performed to patients. The recordings of /a/ vowel were used to evaluate average fundamental frequency (F0), jitter percent, and shimmer percent. In spectrographic analyses, F3–F4 values for the vowels /i, e, a, o, and u/, nasal formant frequencies of the consonants /m/ and /n/ in the word /mini/, and 4 formant frequencies (F1, F2, F3, and F4) for nasalized /i/ vowel following a nasal consonant /n/ in the word /mini/ were compared. The differences in nasal resonance were evaluated. All patients were asked whether change in their voices after the surgery. Preoperative and postoperative voice parameters and anterior rhinomanometry results were compared separately with the control group as well as in the patient group itself. Results. Preoperative total nasal resistance (TNR) values of patients were higher than the control group (P=0.001). TNR values of patients measured one day before surgery and after surgery in the 1st and 3rd months were different and these differences were significant statistically (P=0.001). There was no significant difference between the voice analysis parameters in preoperative, postoperative 1st, and 3rd months. As a result of their subjective reviews, 12 patients (36%) noted their voices were better than before surgery and 20 patients (61%) noted no change before and after surgery. Conclusion. Providing widened nasal cavity has no effect on voice quality.

Binding modes of a series of catechol derivatives such as protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitors were identified by molecular modeling techniques. Docking, molecular dynamics simulations and free energy calculations were employed to determine the modes of these new inhibitors. Binding free energies were calculated by involving different energy components using the Molecular Mechanics-Poisson-Boltzmann Surface Area and Generalized Born Surface Area methods. Relatively larger binding energies were obtained for the catechol derivatives compared to one of the PTP1B inhibitors already in use. The Molecular Mechanics/ Generalized Born Surface Area (MM/GBSA) free energy decomposition analysis indicated that the hydroxyl functional groups and biphenyl ring system had favorable interactions with Met258, Tyr46, Gln262 and Phe182 residues of PTP1B. The results of hydrogen bound analysis indicated that catechol derivatives, in addition to hydrogen bonding interactions, Val49, Ile219, Gln266, Asp181 and amino acid residues of PTP1B are responsible for governing the inhibitor potency of the compounds. The information generated from the present study should be useful for the design of more potent PTP1B inhibitors as anti-diabetic agents.

A four dimensional quantitative structure activity relationship analysis was applied to a series of 50 flavonoid inhibitors of p56^lck protein tyrosine kinase by the molecular comparative electron topological method. It was found that the -log (IC50) values of the compounds were highly dependent on the topology, size and electrostatic character of the substituents at seven positions of the flavonoid scaffold in this study. Depending on the negative or positive charge of the groups correctly embedded in these substituents, three-dimensional bio-structure to increase or decrease -log (IC50) values in the training set of 39 compounds was predicted. The test set of 11 compounds was used to evaluate the predictivity of the model. To generate 4D-QSAR model, the defined function groups and pharmacophore used as topological descriptors in the calculation of activity were of sufficient statistical quality (R^2 = 0.72 and Q^2 = 0.69). Ligand docking approach by using Dock 6.0. These compounds include many flavonoid analogs, They were docked onto human families of p56lck PTKs retrieved from the Protein Data Bank, 1lkl.pdb.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of different surface treatment methods and thermal ageing on the bond strength of autopolymerizing acrylic resin to Co-Cr. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Co-Cr alloy specimens were divided into five groups according to the surface conditioning methods. C: No treatment; SP: flamed with the Silano-Pen device; K: airborne particle abrasion with $Al_2O_3$; Co: airborne particle abrasion with silica-coated $Al_2O_3$; KSP: flamed with the Silano-Pen device after the group K experimental protocol. Then, autopolymerized acrylic resin was applied to the treated specimen surfaces. All the groups were divided into two subgroups with the thermal cycle and water storage to determine the durability of the bond. The bond strength test was applied in an universal test machine and treated Co-Cr alloys were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the significant differences among surface treatments and thermocycling. Their interactons were followed by a multiple comparison' test performed uing a post hoc Tukey HSD test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Surface treatments significantly increased repair strengths of repair resin to Co-Cr alloy. The repair strengths of Group K, and Co significantly decreased after 6,000 cycles (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Thermocycling lead to a significant decrease in shear bond strength for air abrasion with silica-coated aluminum oxide particles. On the contrary, flaming with Silano-Pen did not cause a significant reduction in adhesion after thermocycling.

We report a pediatric patient admitted with abdominal pain, diffuse lower extremity edema and watery diarrhea for two months. Laboratory findings including complete blood count, serum albumin, lipid and immunoglobulin levels were compatible with protein losing enteropathy. Colonoscopic examination revealed diffuse ulcers with smooth raised edge (like "punched out holes") in the colon and terminal ileum. Histopathological examination showed active colitis, ulcerations and inclusion bodies. Immunostaining for cytomegalovirus was positive. Despite supportive man-agement, antiviral therapy, the clinical condition of the patient worsened and developed disseminated cytomegalovi-rus infection and the patient died. Protein losing enteropathy and disseminated cytomegalovirus infection a present-ing of feature in steroid-naive patient with inflammatory bowel disease is very rare. Hypogammaglobulinemia asso-ciated with protein losing enteropathy in Crohn's disease may predispose the cytomegalovirus infection in previously healthy children.

Wastewaters of textile industry cause high volume colour and harmful substance pollutions. Photocatalytic degradation is a method which gives opportunity of reduction of organic pollutants such as dye containing wastewaters. In this study, photocatalytic degradation of C.I. Basic Yellow 28 (BY28) as a model dye contaminant was carried out using Degussa P25 in a photocatalytic reactor. The experiments were followed out at three different azo dye concentrations in a reactor equipped UV-A lamp (365 nm) as a light source. Azo dye removal efficiencies were examined with total organic carbon and UV-vis measurements. As a result of experiments, maximum degradation efficiency was obtained as 100% at BY28 concentration of $50mgL^{-1}$ for the reaction time of 2.5 h. The photodegradation of BY28 was described by a pseudo-first-order kinetic model modified with the langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. The adsorption equilibrium constant and the rate constant of the surface reaction were calculated as $K_{dye}=6.689{\cdot}10^{-2}L\;mg^{-1}$ and $k_c=0.599mg\;L^{-1}min^{-1}$, respectively.

Ag/perylene-monoimide(PMI)/n-GaAs Schottky diode was fabricated and the currentevoltage (I-V)characteristics at a wide temperature range between 75 and 350 K and also the capacitanceevoltage (C-V) characteristics at room temperature for 1 MHz have been analyzed in detail. The measured IeV characteristics exhibit a good rectification behavior at all temperature values. By using standard analysis methods, the ideality factor and the barrier height are deduced from the experimental data and also the variations of these parameters with the temperature are analyzed. In addition, by means of the Cheung and Cheung method, the series resistance and some other electrical properties are calculated for the diode. Finally, capacitanceevoltage characteristics of device have been analyzed at the room temperature. From analyzing the capacitance measurements, Schottky barrier height is determined and then compared with the value which calculated from the IeV measurements at room temperature. Also, the concentration of ionized donors, built-in potential and some other parameters of diode are found using C-V characteristics.
