Spending on Distribution Information and Communication Technologies and Cost-Effective Operation in Banks

        Anh PHAN(Anh PHAN),Chi Huu LU(Chi Huu LU),Phuong Minh NGUYEN(Phuong Minh NGUYEN ) 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.9

Purpose: Many concerns have appeared in banking sector in the digital era and one of them is that technology development will increase operation costs of banks. Motivated by this issue, our study aims to explore the effect of technological and digital investments on costeffectiveness of banking operation. Research design, data and methodology: To reach a clear answer, we use the data of 12 commercial banks spanning from 2011 to 2020 in Vietnam and employ multivariate regression analysis as well as perform various robustness tests. Results: Our regression result indicates that the adverse effect of technological spending on cost-effective operation. This finding still remains unchanged when we conduct different robust tests. Also, we find that this negative impact becomes more evident in large banks than in small ones. Conclusions: The paper provides one of the most important empirical results for mangers and policy-makers in banking sphere, especially in Vietnam where regulators have been calling for continuously investing into technological innovation in banks. The evidence confirms that banks should carefully consider an increase in spending on distribution information and communication technologies when constructing business strategies related to expanding digitalization. Our research is also useful for countries having similar financial structure to Vietnam.

HER2 Status and Its Heterogeneity in Gastric Carcinoma of Vietnamese Patient

Dang Anh Thu Phan,Vu Thien Nguyen,Thi Ngoc Ha Hua,Quoc Dat Ngo,Thi Phuong Thao Doan,Sao Trung Nguyen,Anh Tu Thai,Van Thanh Nguyen 대한병리학회 2017 Journal of Pathology and Translational Medicine Vol.51 No.4

Background: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is related to the pathogenesis and poor outcome of numerous types of carcinomas, including gastric carcinoma. Gastric cancer patients with HER2 positivity have become potential candidates for targeted therapy with trastuzumab. Methods: We investigated 208 gastric cancer specimens using immunohistochemistry (IHC), fluorescence in situ hybridization and dual in situ hybridization (ISH). We also investigated the concordance between IHC and ISH. The correlation between HER2 status and various clinicopathological findings was also investigated. Results: In total, 15.9% (33/208) and 24.5% (51/208) of gastric cancers showed HER2 gene amplification and protein overexpression, respectively. A high level of concordance between ISH and IHC analyses (91.3%, κ = 0.76) was found. A significant correlation between HER2 status and intestinal-type (p < .05) and differentiated carcinomas (p < .05) was also noted. The HER2 heterogeneity was high in gastric cancers; we found 68.8% phenotypic heterogeneity and 57.6% genotypic heterogeneity. Heterogeneity in HER2 protein expression and gene amplification showed a close association with diffuse histologic type and IHC 2+. Conclusions: HER2 protein overexpression and gene amplification were detected in 24.5% and 15.9% of gastric cancer specimens, respectively. Intestinal-type showed a higher level of HER2 protein overexpression and gene amplification than diffuse type. HER2 status also showed a significant relationship with well- and moderately-differentiated carcinomas. The ratio of phenotypic and genotypic heterogeneity of HER2 was high in gastric carcinomas and was associated with HER2 IHC 2+ and diffuse histologic type.

Factors Affecting Mobile Payment Acceptance and Intention: A Case Study of Hospitality Customers in Vietnam

Dinh Tram Anh PHAN,Thi Thuy Ngan NGUYEN,Thi Khanh Nhi NGUYEN,Tran Thien An NGUYEN,Van Si Dan PHAN,Ngoc Phuong Thao HO,Kim Xuan DO,Trong Luan NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.5

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the Vietnamese economy. In the midst of a complex disease that compelled people to limit their interaction, customers’ shopping habits shifted from “offline” to “online” transactions. Mobile payments have also grown in popularity. The goal of this study is to figure out what factors influence the use of mobile payments by hotel clients in Can Tho after COVID-19. The research team also examines how those factors influence customers’ willingness to use mobile payment and makes recommendations to better the current situation. Primary data was collected from 227 persons using online surveys and processed with SPSS software for this study. To analyze the correlation relationship between the elements determining the intention to use, the Cronbach alpha, EFA, Correlation, and Regression methods used to assess the scale are applied. Perceived Trustworthiness, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of Use all have positive effects on customers’ propensity to use, according to the findings. Perceived Security, on the other hand, has no bearing. The findings of this study have significant theoretical and practical implications for the development of mobile payment services in Can Tho, particularly following the implementation of COVID-19.

The Effect of Investing into Distribution Information and Communication Technologies on Banking Performance the Empirical Evidence from an Emerging Country

        PHAN Anh,LU Chi Huu,HOANG Lam Xuan,NGUYEN Phuong Minh 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.6

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of investing into technology development on banking performance in an emerging country. Research design, data and methodology: Based on the data of 12 commercial banks listed in Vietnam from 2011 to 2019 and performing multivariable regression analyses as well as conducting a variety of robustness tests, we carry out the empirical investigation to discover this impact. Results: Our empirical evidence shows that these spending help to improve significantly performance of banks. Particularly, the technology expenditures have positive effect on the net interest margin and the non-interest income in which the level of influence on the latter is relatively remarkable in comparison with the former. At the same time, the result does not support the view that increasingly spending on technology may lead banks to face the risk of instability. Conclusions: Overall, our empirical analysis indicates that increasing investment into distribution information and communication technologies will help to enhance business strategies of banks and thus we advocate the bright side of technology development and digitalization in banking sector. We believe that the research is useful for both managers, regulators and policy makers in Vietnam as well as in countries having similar financial structure.

      • The Facile Synthesis of Novel ZnO Nanostructure for Galactose Biosensor Application

La Phan, Phuong Ha,Tran, Quang Trung,Dinh, Duc Anh,Bok, Ko Kang,Hong, Chang-Hee,Cuong, Tran Viet Hindawi Limited 2019 Journal of nanomaterials Vol.2019 No.-

<P>We introduce a novel structure of ZnO nanorods (NRs) grown on ZnO NRs (ZnO NRs/NRs) via a facile, low-cost, and environmentally friendly synthesis for galactose biosensor application. The galactose oxidase enzyme (GalOx) is immobilized on the ZnO NR/NR surface to form the novel electrode structure (GalOx|ZnO NRs/NRs). The GalOx|ZnO NR/NR electrode has a linear detection range of current density from 11.30 <I>μ</I>A/mm2 to 18.16 <I>μ</I>A/mm2 over a galactose concentration range from 40 mM to 230 mM, indicating the increment of electrode sensitivity up to 60.7%. The ZnO NR/NR morphology with a high surface area to volume ratio has a great contribution to the electrochemical performance of galactose biosensor. Our results propose a straightforward approach to fabricate architecturally ZnO-based nanostructure for biosensor application.</P>

Customer's Satisfaction About Mobile Banking Distribution Channel in Vietnamese Commercial Banks

        NGUYEN Minh Phuong,PHAN Anh 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.8

Purpose: In the context of the emergence of industry 4.0, using mobile phones as a modern distribution channel to execute financial services is a significant solution for commercial banks' retail services and a gateway to promote financial inclusion and market development. Despite that service quality and customer satisfaction are two diverse notions and closely related to each other in the service sector, there is hardly a research which empirically examines the impacts of each dimensions of mobile banking service quality and customer satisfaction. Research design, data and methodology: This study first employs in-depth interview to explore various aspects of mobile banking service quality dimensions, including empathy, responsiveness, tangibility, assurance, and reliability that serves to develop measurement scales and hypothesis development. A quantitative survey is followed to collect data from 265 Vietnamese bank customers to empirically test the conceptual model. Results: Our findings indicate that more human-related factors including empathy, assurance, and responsiveness show the strongest impacts on customer satisfaction with mobile banking service while tangibility and reliability, as technical aspects, are less influential factors. Conclusions: Finally, some crucial implications are drawn for the banks to manage consumer behavior in mobile banking.

Design, synthesis and evaluation of novel <i>N</i>-hydroxybenzamides/<i>N</i>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinazolin-4(3<i>H</i>)-ones as histone deacetylase inhibitors and antitumor agents

        Hieu, Doan Thanh,Anh, Duong Tien,Tuan, Nguyen Minh,Hai, Pham-The,Huong, Le-Thi-Thu,Kim, Jisung,Kang, Jong Soon,Vu, Tran Khac,Dung, Phan Thi Phuong,Han, Sang-Bae,Nam, Nguyen-Hai,Hoa, Nguyen-Dang Elsevier 2018 Bioorganic chemistry Vol.76 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In our search for novel small molecules targeting histone deacetylases, we have designed and synthesized several series of novel <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinazolin-4(3<I>H</I>)-ones (<B>4a-h</B>, <B>8a-d, 10a-d)</B>. Biological evaluation showed that these hydroxamic acids were generally cytotoxic against three human cancer cell lines (SW620, colon; <I>PC</I>-3, prostate; NCI-H23, lung cancer). It was found that the <I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides (<B>10a-d)</B> were the most potent, both in term of HDAC inhibition and cytotoxicity. Several compounds, e.g. <B>4e</B>, <B>8b-c</B>, and <B>10a-c</B>, displayed up to 4-fold more potent than SAHA (suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, vorinostat) in term of cytotoxicity. These compounds also comparably inhibited HDACs with IC50 values in sub-micromolar range. Docking experiments on HDAC2 isozyme revealed some important features contributing to the inhibitory activity of synthesized compounds, especially for propenamide analogues. Importantly, the free binding energy computed was found to have high quantitative correlation (<I>R</I> 2 ∼ 95%) with experimental results.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Novel quinazolin-4(3H)-one-based <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides were synthesized. </LI> <LI> The <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides exhibited potent HDAC inhibition. </LI> <LI> The <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides exhibited good cytotoxicity. </LI> <LI> Docking studies and ADMET estimation were carried out. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Two series of novel, simple <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinolin-4(3H)-one (<B>4a-h</B>, <B>8a-d, 10a-d</B>) were designed and synthesized. Huan, Le Cong,Tran, Phuong-Thao,Phuong, Cao Viet,Duc, Phan Huy,Anh, Duong Tien,Hai, Pham The,Huong, Le Thi Thu,Thuan, Nguyen Thi,Lee, Hye Jin,Park, Eun Jae,Kang, Jong Soon,Linh, Nguyen Phuong,Hieu, Tr Elsevier 2019 Bioorganic chemistry Vol.92 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In search for novel small molecules with antitumor cytotoxicity via activating procaspase-3, we have designed and synthesized three series of novel (E)-<I>N</I>′-benzylidene-4-oxoquinazolin-3(4<I>H</I>)-yl)acetohydrazides (<B>5a-j, 6a-h,</B> and <B>7a-h)</B>. On the phenyl ring ò the benzylidene part, three different substituents, including 2-OH-4-OCH3, 4-OCH3, and 4-N(CH3)2, were introduced, respectively. Biological evaluation showed that the acetohydrazides in series <B>5a-j</B>, in which the phenyl ring of the benzylidene part was substituted by 2-OH-4-OCH3 substituent, exhibited potent cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines (SW620, colon; PC-3, prostate; NCI-H23, lung). Most of the compounds, in this series, especially compounds <B>5c, 5b</B> and <B>5h,</B> also significantly activated caspase-3 activity. Among these, compound <B>5c</B> displayed 1.61-fold more potent than PAC-1 as caspase-3 activator. Cell cycle analysis showed that compounds <B>5b</B>, <B>5c</B>, and <B>5h</B> significantly arrested the cell cycle in G1 phase. Further apoptotic studies also demonstrated compounds <B>5b</B>, <B>5c</B>, and <B>5h</B> as strong apoptotic cell death inducers. Fabrication of ZnO nanorods for gas sensing applications using hydrothermal method.

Nguyen, Cam Phu Thi,La, Phan Phuong Ha,Trinh, Thanh Thuy,Le, Tuan Anh Huy,Bong, Sungjae,Jang, Kyungsoo,Ahn, Shihyun,Yi, Junsin American Scientific Publishers 2014 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.14 No.8

<P>We showed well-aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod arrays synthesized using hydrothermal method at atmospheric pressure. The influence of fabrication conditions such as Zn2+/hexamethylentriamin concentration ratio, and growth temperature on the formation of ZnO nanorods was investigated. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis were used to confirm the single crystal of ZnO nanorods, which showed wurtzite structure with growth direction of [0001] (the c-axis). Photoluminescence (PL) measurements of ZnO nanorods revealed an intense ultraviolet peak at 388.5 nm (3.19 eV) at room temperature. The results showed that the ZnO seed layers had strong influence on the growth of vertically aligned ZnO nanorods. The gas sensor based on ZnO nanorod arrays had the most selectivity with n-butanol gas (within 2 surveyed gas: ethanol and n-butanol) and showed a higher sensitivity of 222, fast response time of 15 seconds, recovery time of 110 seconds and lower operating temperature of 200-250 C than the sensor based on the ZnO film in the same detecting conditions.</P>
