Purpose: Many concerns have appeared in banking sector in the digital era and one of them is that technology development will increase operation costs of banks. Motivated by this issue, our study aims to explore the effect of technological and digital investments on costeffectiveness of banking operation. Research design, data and methodology: To reach a clear answer, we use the data of 12 commercial banks spanning from 2011 to 2020 in Vietnam and employ multivariate regression analysis as well as perform various robustness tests. Results: Our regression result indicates that the adverse effect of technological spending on cost-effective operation. This finding still remains unchanged when we conduct different robust tests. Also, we find that this negative impact becomes more evident in large banks than in small ones. Conclusions: The paper provides one of the most important empirical results for mangers and policy-makers in banking sphere, especially in Vietnam where regulators have been calling for continuously investing into technological innovation in banks. The evidence confirms that banks should carefully consider an increase in spending on distribution information and communication technologies when constructing business strategies related to expanding digitalization. Our research is also useful for countries having similar financial structure to Vietnam.

Nhan Phuc Thanh Nguyen,Ha Phan Ai Nguyen,Cao Khoa Dang,Minh Tri Phan,Huynh Ho Ngoc Quynh,Van Tuan Le,Chinh Van Dang,Tinh Huu Ho,Van Trong Phan,Van Trong Phan,Thang Phan,Dang Thi Anh Thu 대한예방의학회 2024 예방의학회지 Vol.57 No.1
Objectives: The objective of this study was to characterize mental health issues among Vietnamese healthcare workers (HCWs) and to identify related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 990 HCWs in 2021. Their mental health status was measured using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. Results: In total, 49.9%, 52.3%, and 29.8% of respondents were found to have depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. The multivariable linear regression model revealed that factors associated with increased anxiety scores included depression scores (β, 0.45; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.39 to 0.51) and stress scores (β, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.41 to 0.52). Factors associated with increased depression scores included being frontline HCWs (β, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.10 to 1.10), stress scores (β, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.45 to 0.56), and anxiety scores (β, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.36 to 0.47), while working experience was associated with reduced depression scores (β, -0.08; 95% CI, -0.16 to -0.01). Factors associated with increased stress scores included working experience (β, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.00 to 0.16), personal protective equipment interference with daily activities (β, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.07 to 1.00), depression scores (β, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.59), and anxiety scores (β, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.39 to 0.50), while age was associated with reduced stress scores (β, -0.12; 95% CI, -0.20 to -0.05).Conclusions: Specific interventions are necessary to enhance and promote the mental health of HCWs so they can successfully cope with the circumstances of the pandemic.
9.1 dBm IIP3 36 dB gain controllable LNA for WCDMA in 0.13-μm CMOS
Phan, Tuan Anh,Farrell, Ronan,Lee, Sang-Gug Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2009 MICROWAVE AND OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY LETTERS Vol.51 No.5
<P>This article presents a low-power, high-linearity cascode-type low noise amplifier (LNA) with 36 dB of variable gain for the WIDE Code Division Multiple Access systems. By enhancing the substrate resistance of a common gate transistor along with adopting multiple-gate technique, the linearity is significantly improved. Shunt-current steering is adopted for smooth gain control. Step gain mode is used to further increase the gain control range. The main common source transistor is disabled in attenuation mode, saving unwanted power consumption. Measurements show maximum gain of 12.3 dB with S11 of −19.5 dB, and S22 of −14 dB. The total gain control range is 36 dB. NF is measured as 2 dB and two-tone test shows 9.1 dBm of IIP3. Implemented in 0.13-μm CMOS technology, the LNA consumes only 1.6 mA at maximum gain mode and only 0.2 mA in attenuation mode from 1.2 V supply. Its die size is 0.3 mm2. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 51: 1385–1388, 2009; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com). The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the development timeline of video gaming in Vietnam. This paper would examine how Southeast Asia has become a key component in constructing the façade of the global gaming industry, focusing on Vietnam. As a communist country, Vietnam showed a distinctive pattern of video gaming reception. Video gaming has become a popular amusement among Vietnamese youth and has also helped Vietnam integrate into the modern world after the Vietnam War.
Magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect in Fe90-x Sn x Zr10 alloy ribbons
Phan, T. L.,Dan, N. H.,Thanh, T. D.,Mai, N. T.,Ho, T. A.,Yu, S. C.,Le, Anh-Tuan,Phan, M. H. Korean Physical Society 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.8
<P>This work points out the possibility of tuning the magnetocaloric (MC) effect in Fe90-x Sn (x) Zr-10 alloy ribbons in the temperature range from 235 to 315 K by changing the Sn-doping content (x). Under an applied field change from 0 to 50 kOe, the maximum magnetic-entropy changes around the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition are about 3.6, 4.1 and 3.3 J kg(-1)center dot K-1 for x = 0, 2 and 4, respectively, which correspond to relative cooling powers of 280 similar to 410 J center dot kg(-1). Studying the magnetic properties of the alloy ribbons based on Banerjee's criteria and assessing the magneticordering parameter n = dLn|Delta S (m) |/dLnH (where Delta S (m) and H are the magnetic-entropy change and the magnetic field, respectively) reveals that the alloys undergo a second-order phase transition and exhibit a short-range ferromagnetic order. The nature of these phenomena is further analyzed by means of the results obtained from the analyses of the crystal structure, the Curie-Weiss law, and the Griffith phase.</P>
Metal–Organic Frameworks of Vanadium as Catalysts for Conversion of Methane to Acetic Acid
Phan, Anh,Czaja, Alexander U.,Gá,ndara, Felipe,Knobler, Carolyn B.,Yaghi, Omar M. American Chemical Society 2011 Inorganic chemistry Vol.50 No.16
<P>A catalytic system combining the high activity of homogeneous catalysts and the ease of use of heterogeneous catalysts for methane activation is reported. The vanadium-containing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) MIL-47 and MOF-48 are found to have high catalytic activity and chemical stability. They convert methane selectively to acetic acid with 70% yield (490 TON) based on K2S2O8 as an oxidant. Isotopic labeling experiments showed that two methane molecules are converted to the produced acetic acid. The MOF catalysts are reusable and remain catalytically active for several recycling steps without losing their crystalline structures.</P><P>The vanadium-containing metal−organic framework MOF-48 catalyzes the selective direct oxidation of methane to acetic acid. The yield is 49% (based on K2S2O8 as an oxidant), 490 TON, at 80 °C in a trifluoroacetic acid solvent.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/inocaj/2011/inocaj.2011.50.issue-16/ic201396m/production/images/medium/ic-2011-01396m_0005.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ic201396m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ic201396m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of investing into technology development on banking performance in an emerging country. Research design, data and methodology: Based on the data of 12 commercial banks listed in Vietnam from 2011 to 2019 and performing multivariable regression analyses as well as conducting a variety of robustness tests, we carry out the empirical investigation to discover this impact. Results: Our empirical evidence shows that these spending help to improve significantly performance of banks. Particularly, the technology expenditures have positive effect on the net interest margin and the non-interest income in which the level of influence on the latter is relatively remarkable in comparison with the former. At the same time, the result does not support the view that increasingly spending on technology may lead banks to face the risk of instability. Conclusions: Overall, our empirical analysis indicates that increasing investment into distribution information and communication technologies will help to enhance business strategies of banks and thus we advocate the bright side of technology development and digitalization in banking sector. We believe that the research is useful for both managers, regulators and policy makers in Vietnam as well as in countries having similar financial structure.
