Abstract

The aim of this work is to prepare and evaluate a novel lipid-polymer hybrid liposomal nanoplatform (hyaluronic acid-magnetic nanoparticle-liposomes, HA-MNP-LPs) as a vehicle for targeted delivery and triggered release of an anticancer drug (docetaxel, DTX) in human breast cancer cells. We first synthesize an amphiphilic hyaluronic acid hexadecylamine polymer (HA-C16) to enhance the targeting ability of the hybrid liposome. Next, HA-MNP-LPs are constructed to achieve an average size of 189.93±2.74nm in diameter. In addition, citric acid-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are prepared and embedded in the aqueous cores while DTX is encapsulated in the hydrophobic bilayers of the liposomes. Experiments with coumarin 6 loaded hybrid liposomes (C6/HA-MNP-LPs) show that the hybrid liposomes have superior cellular uptake in comparison with the conventional non-targeting liposomes (C6/MNP-LPs), and the result is further confirmed by Prussian blue staining. Under near-infrared laser irradiation (NIR, 808nm), the HA-MNP-LPs aqueous solution can reach 46.7°C in 10min, and the hybrid liposomes released over 20% more drug than the non-irradiated liposomes. Using a combination of photothermal irradiation and chemotherapy, the DTX-loaded hybrid liposomes (DTX/HA-MNP-LPs) significantly enhance therapeutic efficacy, with the IC50 value of 0.69±0.10μg/mL, which is much lower than the values for DTX monotherapy. Consequently, the prepared hybrid nanoplatform may offer a promising drug delivery vehicle with selective targeting and enhanced drug release in treating CD44-overexpressing cancers.

Highlights

Novel polymer-lipid nanohybrid liposomes for active tumor targeting are synthesized.

Magnetic nanoparticles and drug are encapsulated for photothermal-chemotherapy.

Nanohybrid liposomes significantly enhance cellular uptake to breast cancer cells.

Near-infrared light can trigger drug release from the nanohybrid liposomes.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Abstract

Phytoremediation is a plant-based, environment-friendly, and cost-effective technology that can be potentially used to remediate contaminated media. This study was conducted to evaluate the phytoextraction and phytostabilization potential, two common techniques of phytoremediation, of 21 plant species growing naturally at the largest tungsten (W) mine in Vietnam—the second largest production of W in the world. The average concentrations in different soil fractions were in the following order: residue > organically complexed, Fe- and Mn oxide-bound > carbonate bound > exchangeable. The total concentrations of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) in the soil varied by 34–3390, 4.87–81.6, 14.3–2080, and 21.9–370 mg/kg, respectively. The concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, and Zn in the shoots ranged 0.71–2400, 0.05–5.55, 4.81–249, and 13.3–380 mg/kg-DW, respectively. The concentrations of As and Cd in all soil samples and Cu in 70% of soil samples collected around the mine fluctuated within 2–227, 3–54, and up to 21-folds higher than the maximum allowable limit for agricultural soils in Vietnam (QCVN 03-MT:2015/BTNMT). The results indicated that hyperaccumulation levels (mg/kg-DW) were obtained for only As in Pityrogramma calomelanos (2400) and Pteris vittata L. (1860). Based on the recorded hyperaccumulation levels, translocation and accumulation factors, biomass, and fast growth of these plants, P. calomelanos and P. vittata were considered to be promising native plants for the phytoextraction of As contaminated soils. Bidens pilosa L. also has great potential for phytostabilization of mining soils contaminated with As and heavy metals.

Highlights

Soils near multi-metal (W–F–Cu–Au–Bi) mine were contaminated with As, Cd, Cu.

Arsenic in shoots were in order of Fern > Monocotyledonae > Dicotyledonae.

Pityrogramma calomelanos and Pteris vittata L. suggested for phytoextraction of As.

Bidens pilosa L. suggested for the phytostabilization of mining contaminated soils.

In accordance with huge demand for capital to meet the expansion of steel production, there are more and more steel companies who have officially listed their stocks in HOSE and HNX. One of the key issues in successful initial public offerings and seasonal offerings for these companies is how to make stocks of steel companies become more attractive in the eyes of investors. The purpose of this research is to analyze the determinants of share prices of listed steel companies in Vietnam. This study utilized macro-economic variables, ratios and indicators representing characteristics of steel industry collected from Quarter 1/2006 to Quarter 4/2019 in association with the panel data and the feasible generalized least square (FGLS) model to evaluate the degree of these factors on the share prices. The results of the research show that ROE, Cons_rate, and CO2_rate are three main factors affecting the share prices of listed steel companies. Among which, ROE and Cons_rate have a positive effect, while CO2_rate has a negative effect on the share prices of listed steel companies. It also confirms the relationship between the environmental factor, construction industry factor and the stock prices. This lays foundations for recommendations for the future policies towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

A common approach to the problem of predicting student test scores is based on the student's previous educational history. In this study, high school transcripts of about two thousand candidates, who took the High-school Student Assessment (HSA) were collected. The data were estimated through building a regression model - Random Forest and optimizing the model's parameters based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) to predict the HSA scores. The RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) measure of the predictive models was used to evaluate the model’s performance.

The purpose of this study is to identify elements of job crafting impacts on work engagement and individual work performance in Vietnamese commercial banks. The research data, collected from 226 bank officers, uses the quantitative research tools as: Cronbach's Alpha Analysis, Explanatory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis as well as Structural Equation Modeling. The results of the hypothesis test show that only two hypotheses (H2, H3) are accepted: the impact of cognitive crafting on work engagement of bank officers (H2) and the impact of work engagement on individual work performance (H3). However, three remaining relationships (H1, H4, H5) are not accepted in the study: the impact of relational crafting on work engagement of bank officers (H1), the impact of relational crafting on individual work performance of bank officers (H4) and the impact of cognitive crafting on individual work performance of bank officers (H5). The study results indicate that cognition on job crafting leaves positive impacts on work engagement, leading to individual work performance enhancement. On the other hand, the relational crafting element implies contribution on neither collective nor individual working performances. Furthermore, no direct effect of cognition on job crafting to individual performance has been identified.
