Facile synthesis of multifunctional Ag/Fe3O4-CS nanocomposites for antibacterial and hyperthermic applications

        Ngoan Thi Nguyen,Dai Lam Tran,Duc Cuong Nguyen,Thai Loc Nguyen,Thi Cham Ba,Binh Hai Nguyen,Thi Duong Ba,Nam Hong Pham,Dzung Tuan Nguyen,Thai Hoa Tran,Gia Dien Pham 한국물리학회 2015 Current Applied Physics Vol.15 No.11

Nanocomposites containing two or more functional constituents are attractive candidates for advanced nanomaterials. In this study, multifunctional Ag/Fe3O4-CS nanocomposites were successfully prepared, using chitosan as a stabilizing and cross-linking agent. The as-synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UVevisible spectrophotometer (UVeVis) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results demonstrated that Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite nanoparticles (NPs) were composed of parent components, Fe3O4 and Ag NPs, which were uniformly dispersed in the chitosan matrix. The hybrid NPs exhibited strong antibacterial property against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. With high magnetization value (67 emu/g), the synthesized Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite can be easily separated or recycled in potential biomedical applications. Furthermore, the results showed that the multicomponent hybrid nanostructures appeared to be the promising material for local hyperthermia, which can be used as thermoseeds for localized hyperthermia treatment of cancers.

Impact of Community Attachment and Resident's Support on Destination Sustainability: Evidence from Spiritual and Community Destination in Vietnam

THAN, Trong Thuy,KIEU, Thi Phuong Hoa,PHAM, Thi Anh Duong,HOANG, Thi Cam Van,TRAN, Thi Hau,NGUYEN, Huu Doan,DAO, Trung Kien Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.8

This study investigates the influence of community involvement on the destination sustainability for community destinations and spiritual destinations in Vietnam. Community involvement is measured by two constructs, which are community attachment and residents' support. A structural questionnaire consisting of 41 observation variables measured on a 5-point Likert scale was used to survey households who live in a spiritual destination in An Giang province and three community destinations in Lang Son province with the help of local tour guides and Youth Union. 168 out of 200 responses collected were valid for multivariate data analysis. The results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) reveal three main findings. Firstly, community attachment has a direct effect on both perceived benefits and destination sustainability. Secondly, while residents' support has a direct effect on perceived benefits, it indirectly affects destination sustainability. Finally, community destinations have a higher level of sustainability than the spiritual destination. Based on those findings, this study proposed three suggestions for local authorities, policymakers, and residents to improve the sustainable development of their local tourism destinations, including (1) diversifying local tourism products, (2) encouraging the community participation in tourism development programs, and (3) increasing in the expected benefits in local tourism development policies.

An online Indigenous Knowledge Database on Climate Change Adaptation of Farmers in the Vietnam Mekong Delta

        Van Hoa Nguyen,Thi Mai Phung Bui,Thanh Phong Le,Hoang Tung Nguyen,Minh Tuyen Truong,Minh Nhut Do,Van Nha Duong 인간식물환경학회 2022 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.25 No.6

Background and objective: For countries vulnerable to climate change as Vietnam, indigenous knowledge (IK) might assist in revealing the values of local people's adaptations to environmental stresses and potentially support decision-making. Despite IK can provide the adaptive capacity of local people's activities within environmental contexts, but it is rapidly vanishing. This study aimed to describe the documentation of IK associated with climate change adaptation of farmers in the Vietnam Mekong Delta (VMD). Methods: We focused on collecting and establishing online access to IK documents through collaboration between IK holders, public sector, collecting institutions, and researchers in the five agro-ecological zones of the VMD. An online IK database for storing IK documents has been designed and implemented based on the web application schema. Results: Through interviews, we gathered IK from farming practices that are well-adapted to climate risks such as floods, droughts, and saltwater intrusions as well as traditional knowledge being used to forecast weather, flood, and saltwater intrusion. The database for storing IK documents has been successfully deployed using free and open-source software. The database currently contains more than 260 IK documents, with their location on agro-ecological zones displayed on a web-based map. Conclusion: We have captured and provided an online access to IK on climate change adaptation of the farmers in the VMD. This research is expected as an initial strategy for long-term sustainable development of the agriculture system in this region.

Design, synthesis and evaluation of novel <i>N</i>-hydroxybenzamides/<i>N</i>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinazolin-4(3<i>H</i>)-ones as histone deacetylase inhibitors and antitumor agents

        Hieu, Doan Thanh,Anh, Duong Tien,Tuan, Nguyen Minh,Hai, Pham-The,Huong, Le-Thi-Thu,Kim, Jisung,Kang, Jong Soon,Vu, Tran Khac,Dung, Phan Thi Phuong,Han, Sang-Bae,Nam, Nguyen-Hai,Hoa, Nguyen-Dang Elsevier 2018 Bioorganic chemistry Vol.76 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In our search for novel small molecules targeting histone deacetylases, we have designed and synthesized several series of novel <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinazolin-4(3<I>H</I>)-ones (<B>4a-h</B>, <B>8a-d, 10a-d)</B>. Biological evaluation showed that these hydroxamic acids were generally cytotoxic against three human cancer cell lines (SW620, colon; <I>PC</I>-3, prostate; NCI-H23, lung cancer). It was found that the <I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides (<B>10a-d)</B> were the most potent, both in term of HDAC inhibition and cytotoxicity. Several compounds, e.g. <B>4e</B>, <B>8b-c</B>, and <B>10a-c</B>, displayed up to 4-fold more potent than SAHA (suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, vorinostat) in term of cytotoxicity. These compounds also comparably inhibited HDACs with IC50 values in sub-micromolar range. Docking experiments on HDAC2 isozyme revealed some important features contributing to the inhibitory activity of synthesized compounds, especially for propenamide analogues. Importantly, the free binding energy computed was found to have high quantitative correlation (<I>R</I> 2 ∼ 95%) with experimental results.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Novel quinazolin-4(3H)-one-based <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides were synthesized. </LI> <LI> The <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides exhibited potent HDAC inhibition. </LI> <LI> The <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides exhibited good cytotoxicity. </LI> <LI> Docking studies and ADMET estimation were carried out. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Two series of novel, simple <I>N</I>-hydroxybenzamides/<I>N</I>-hydroxypropenamides incorporating quinolin-4(3H)-one (<B>4a-h</B>, <B>8a-d, 10a-d</B>) were designed and synthesized. Vingroup: The Rising Dragon That Put Vietnam on the Global Map

Giap Vu Nam Duong,Hoang Khanh Linh,정경화,Nguyen Khanh Linh,Nguyen Phuong Hoa,Phan Hai Dang,Thai Thi Phuong Nga Academy of Asian Business (AAB) 2022 Academy of Asian Business Review Vol.8 No.1

Vingroup JSC (formerly Technocom) was founded in Ukraine in 1993 as an instant noodle factory. Since then, the Group has expanded into many other industries, placing tourism and hospitality as their first stepping-stone, then venturing into retail, real estate, education, and recently shifting towards a promising industrial and technology industry. Vingroup has now become the largest conglomerate in Vietnam in terms of market capitalization (VnExpress International, 2019). Having established a solid foundation in the Vietnamese market, Vingroup is eyeing the new promising yet challenging international market, with its competitive advantage in industrials and technology. Standing at a crucial juncture in its ascent, the conglomerate must implement a comprehensive and long-term strategy to reach its next milestone. In 2016, Vingroup primarily focused on four main business segments, encompassing property, hospitality - entertainment, consumer retail, and social infrastructure services. Over the course of two decades, Vinpearl and Vincom have grown into the market-leading hospitality and shopping malls brand in Vietnam. The brands’ establishment coincided with the flourishing economy of the country in the early 2000s, therefore, quickly achieved market dominance. Having such favorable conditions, the Group continued its expansion and investment in other backboned industries, which has reaped correspondingly fruitful results. The key success factors of Vingroup lies in an entrepreneurial mindset, speed, perfectionism and discipline, and last but not least, the national spirit. These traits have allowed the Group to unleash its potential capabilities and go beyond all boundaries. Both small-and-medium-sized companies and big firms can take Vingroup as a lesson for their strategy and corporate culture so that they can lead successful and sustainable growth in today’s competitive market.

The Effect of Social Capital on Social Entrepreneurial Intention among Vietnamese Students

HA, Ngoc Thang,DOAN, Xuan Hau,VU, Trong Nghia,NGUYEN, Thi Phuong Linh,PHAN, Thanh Hoa,DUONG, Cong Doanh Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.8

This study develops the model to estimate the links between social capital, social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial intention. Besides exploring the direct impacts of social capital, social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and perceived desirability on social entrepreneurial intention, this study also focus on discovering the mediating roles of perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy on this relationship. Throughout adopting measures from some previous studies, the authors design the questionnaires and distribute to students in Vietnam. The study presents some demographic information of 289 students, who are studying at university and colleges in Vietnam. Then, the validity and reliability of scales are assessed using the value of Cronbach's alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). In addition, by utilizing the structural modeling structure (SEM), the authors show that social capital plays the important role in shaping social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, perceived desirability, and social entrepreneurial intention. Interestingly, besides the direct effects on social entrepreneurial intention, perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy also mediate the correlation between social capital and social entrepreneurial intention. Also, with the interesting findings of the study, the authors propose several recommendations for policy-makers, educators and academics to promote the social entrepreneurship and innovation among Vietnamese students.

      • Heterogeneity and genetic variations of serotypes O and Asia 1 foot-and-mouth disease viruses isolated in Vietnam

        Le, Van Phan,Nguyen, Tung,Park, Jong-Hyeon,Kim, Su-Mi,Ko, Young-Joon,Lee, Hyang-Sim,Nguyen, Van Cam,Mai, Thuy Duong,Do, Thi Hoa,Cho, In-Soo,Lee, Kwang-Nyeong Elsevier 2010 Veterinary microbiology Vol.145 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Six field foot-and-mouth disease viruses (FMDVs), including four serotype O and two serotype Asia 1 strains, were collected from endemic outbreaks in 2005, 2006, and 2007 from four different provinces in Vietnam. The viruses were isolated and genetically characterized for their complete genomic sequences. The genetic analysis based on the complete genomic coding sequences revealed that the four serotype O FMDVs were related to each other, sharing 95.2% nucleotide (nt) identity and 97.5–97.6% amino acid (aa) identity. Genetic analysis and a phylogenetic tree, based on the VP1 gene of FMDV, showed that the four present Vietnamese serotype O strains have a high level of identity with other serotype O representatives of the Mya-98 lineage of the Southeast Asian (SEA) topotype. The four viruses were all clustered into the Mya-98 lineage of the SEA topotype, sharing 92.3–95.6% nt and 93.4–96.7% aa identity. This finding of the Mya-98 lineage was different from previous reports that the Vietnamese serotype O strains belonged to the Cam-94 lineage of the SEA topotype and two other topotypes, Middle East-South Asia (ME-SA) and Cathay. For the two serotype Asia 1 FMDVs, the genetic analysis based on the complete genomic coding sequences as well as on the VP1 gene revealed that they belonged to two genogroups, IV and V. Of note, the As1/VN/QT03/2007 strain of genogroup V, isolated in 2007, was very closely related to the pandemic Asia 1 strain which caused FMD outbreaks in China (Asia1/WHN/CHA/06, FJ906802) and Mongolia (Asia1/MOG/05, EF614458) in 2005, sharing 99.0–99.3% nt and 99.5–100% aa identity. In contrast, the second strain As1/VN/LC04/2005 of genogroup IV, isolated in 2005, was closely related to all referenced Vietnamese serotype Asia 1 strains found in the GenBank databases, sharing 86.4–100% nt and 90.9–100% aa identity with each. This study is the first description of the full-length genomic sequence of Vietnamese FMDV serotypes O and Asia 1 and may provide the evidence of the concurrent circulation of different serotypes and subtypes of FMDV in recent years in Vietnam.</P>
