Concentrically braced steel frames should be capable of bearing considerable amounts of lateral force. The connection of these frames to beams and columns plays an important role in this respect. This connection is designed to either prevent endconnection problems caused by free buckling of a member or reinforce the gusset plate to reduce damages caused by possible buckling of a member at the connection. In order to assess seismic and buckling behaviors of braces under different conditions, 8 single-span one-story frames with diagonal braces were studied using a finite-element software. The first two models were implemented to assess the impact of end clearance, while the other six models were used to study the effects of different stiffeners on the gusset plates. Results showed that, proper incorporation of stiffeners can prevent early failure of the gusset plate connection and enhance post-buckling behavior.
The Eff ects of Mid-Span Connection Specifi cations on Compressive Performance of Cross (X) Braces
Mussa Mahmoudi,Alireza Shirpour,Arash Zarezadeh Mehrizi 한국강구조학회 2019 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.19 No.4
The aim of this study was assessing the seismic performance of three types of mid-span connections in the cross bracing systems including: the mid-span connection with cover plates, the fl anged connections and the braced ductile shear panel (BDSP). For this purpose, the linear buckling and post-buckling behavior of the cross braces with the aforementioned connections having nonlinear geometries and materials were numerically analyzed. The results were compared to the results of the common connection. According to the results, use of the cross braces with mid-span connection together with cover plates and fl anged connections due to creating continuity in the mid-span connection, cause coordinated buckling of the discontinuous diagonal members (or so-called second mode buckling) and thereby improved compression performance of the cross braces. In addition, use of the ductile shear panel in the mid-span connection led to more energy dissipation by cross braces and prevented buckling of the diagonal bracing members.

RNA interference is a post-transcriptional silencing mechanism triggered by the bioavailability and/or exogenous introduction of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) into cells. Here we describe a novel method for the synthesis of siRNA in a single vessel. The method employs in vitro transcription and a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) template and design, which incorporates upon self-annealing, two promoters, two templates, and three loop regions. Using this method of synthesis we generated efficacious siRNAs designed to silence both exogenous and endogenous genes in mammalian cells. Due to its unique design the single-stranded template is easily amenable to adaptation for attachment to surface platforms for synthesis of siRNAs. AsiRNA synthesis platform was generated using a 3` end-biotinylated ssDNA template tethered to a streptavidin coated surface that generates stable siRNAs under multiple cycles of production. Together these data demonstrate a unique and robust method for scalable siRNA synthesis with potential application in RNAi-based array systems. [BMB reports 2010; 43(11): 732-737]
The Modification of Rice Husk Derived Bio Char with AlCl3 for Removal of Fluoride from Groundwater
( Abdalla Mussa Juma. Prof ),( Seong-jik Park ) 한국농공학회 2020 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2020 No.-
The problem of high amount of fluoride in groundwater is commonly in the worldwide. Many researchers and scholars with different techniques was tried dealing with that problem so as to solve it. Different parameters affecting efficiency of fluoride removal such as adsorbent dose, the time of contact, temperatures conditions, fluoride concentration, pH solution and ions concentrations were considered. Groundwater was used to test the performance of the adsorbent under the optimum conditions. Equilibrium data are well expressed by Freundlich isotherm models and Langmuir, so as to Compared to the adsorption characteristics of fluoride on Aluminum chloride. The pseudo first order and pseudo second order were also applied in comparison. While the pseudo second-order model is found to be more suitable than the pseudo first-order to the fluorides adsorption description. It is observed that, under the optimum conditions the use of aluminum chloride with modified rice husk bio char are maximum in fluoride removal, which indicated that aluminum chloride-modified bio char can be used efficiently as adsorbents for the fluoride removal. The aluminum chloride-modified bio char derived from rice husk were used to treat the fluoride obtained from groundwater.

CIDECT guideline of carbon steel is frequently applied to design the cold-formed stainless steel tubular X-joints. The allowable range of the brace to chord width ratio (β) had been recorded in this guideline without mention to specifi c limits for the brace to chord thickness ratio (τ). Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the eff ect of β and τ ratios on the behaviour of tubular X-joints by using LUSAS software. Three numerical models were created based on the stainless steel sheet type which symbolled as XD (duplex EN1.4462), XH (high strength austenitic), and XN (normal AISI 304). A good consistency was achieved with the experimental test in terms of load–defl ection behaviour, ultimate joint strength, and failure modes within a maximum error of 8.63%. Parametric studies results indicated that the increased of (β) ratio at constant (τ = 1) capable to increase the joint strength which was quite conservative with the CIDECT design strengths of specimens failed with the chord side wall failure, while it was unconservative to chord face failure. Hence, equations were proposed to calculate the joint strength for specimens failed by chord face failure. A range of (0.4–2) had proposed for (τ) ratio. The ultimate joint strength obviously increased at high values of (τ) ratio within a constant value of (β = 1). Moreover, the chord side wall and brace local buckling failure modes observed when (τ > 0.5) and (τ ≤ 0.5), respectively, which indicated that the brace local buckling failure can be only occurred when (β > 0.85) and (τ ≤ 0.5).

The objective of this study was to characterize the meat quality traits that affect the texture and savory taste of Ufipa indigenous chickens by comparing the proximate composition, physical characteristics, collagen, and nucleic acid contents with those of commercial broilers. It was found that Ufipa chicken breast and thigh meat had a higher protein content (p<0.05) than broiler chicken meat, whereas the fat content was lower (p<0.01). The moisture content of thigh meat was lower in Ufipa chicken meat than in broiler chicken meat (p<0.05). Regarding meat color, broiler chickens had considerably higher L* and b* than Ufipa chickens in both the breast and the thigh meat, except for a* (p<0.01). Regarding water holding capacity, Ufipa chicken breast exhibited higher drip loss but lower thawing and cooking losses than broiler chicken (p<0.01). In contrast, its thigh meat had a much lower drip and thawing losses but higher cooking losses (p<0.01). The shear force of Ufipa chickens’ breasts and thighs was higher than that of broiler chickens (p<0.05), while the amount of total collagen in the thigh meat was higher than that of broiler chickens (p<0.05). Additionally, the inosine-5’-monophosphate (IMP) of Ufipa chicken breast and thigh meat was higher than that of broiler meat (p<0.05). The principal component analysis of meat quality traits provides a correlation between the proximate and physical-chemical prosperties of both breeds with some contrast. In conclusion, the present study provides information on healthy food with good-tasting Ufipa indigenous chickens, which offer a promising market due to consumers’ preferences.
Numerical formulation of P-I diagrams for blast damage prediction and safety assessment of RC panels
Mohamed H. Mussa,Azrul A. Mutalib,Hong Hao 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.75 No.5
A numerical study is carried out to assess the dynamic response and damage level of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) panels subjected to explosive loads by using finite element LS-DYNA software. The precision of the numerical models is validated with the previous experimental test. The calibrated models are used to conduct a series of parametric studies to evaluate the effects of panel wall dimensions, concrete strength, and steel reinforcement ratio on the blast-resistant capacity of the panel under various magnitudes of blast load. The results are used to develop pressure-impulse (P-I) diagrams corresponding to the damage levels defined according to UFC-3-340-02 manual. Empirical equations are proposed to easily construct the P-I diagrams of RC panels that can be efficiently used to assess its safety level against blast loads.
Management of mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament: a systematic review
( Tamer Sweed ),( Mohamed Mussa ),( Ahmed El-bakoury ),( Guido Geutjens ),( Andrew Metcalfe ) 대한슬관절학회 2021 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.33 No.-
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the outcomes of management of mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament (MDACL) by performing a systematic review of methods of treatment that have been reported. Methods: A systematic literature search in the databases MEDLINE, Embase, Google Scholar, Cochrane, ISI web of science and Scopus was performed through July 2020 by three independent reviewers. The review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42018087782). Quality was assessed using the Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) criteria. Results: A total of nine studies were eligible for review. All nine studies assessed the outcome of arthroscopic debridement of MDACL. A total of 313 knees in 292 patients were included. The mean follow up ranged from 13 to 72 months. There was strong association between MDACL and chondral lesions (82%) and between MDACL and meniscal tears (69%). The rate of simultaneous meniscectomy ranged from 13 to 44%. Postoperative pain relief ranged from 53.8 to 95%. There was an improvement in postoperative range of motion and outcome scores (Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee scores and the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score). Postoperative Lachman test was positive in 40% of patients, and 6% of patients had symptomatic instability. The mean MINORS score was 9.5 out of 16 (4-12). Conclusions: Arthroscopic debridement of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) results in satisfactory pain relief and improvement in knee outcome scores. Postoperative ACL laxity is common after arthroscopic ACL debridement, however, symptomatic instability is not. The need for delayed ACL reconstruction should be discussed preoperatively, especially if complete resection of the ACL is to be performed. Level of evidence: IV
