A new first shear deformation beam theory based on neutral surface position for functionally graded beams

Mohammed Bouremana,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Mohammed Sid Ahmed Houari,Abdelhakim Kaci,El Abbas Adda Bedia 국제구조공학회 2013 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.15 No.5

In this paper, a new first-order shear deformation beam theory based on neutral surface position is developed for bending and free vibration analysis of functionally graded beams. The proposed theory is based on assumption that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components, in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces and, likewise, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. The neutral surface position for a functionally graded beam which its material properties vary in the thickness direction is determined. Based on the present new first-order shear deformation beam theory and the neutral surface concept together with Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. To examine accuracy of the present formulation, several comparison studies are investigated. Furthermore, the effects of different parameters of the beam on the bending and free vibration responses of functionally graded beam are discussed.

A simple quasi-3D HSDT for the dynamics analysis of FG thick plate on elastic foundation

        Zoulikha Boukhlif,Mohammed Bouremana,Fouad Bourada,Abdelmoumen Anis Bousahla,Mohamed Bourada,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Mohammed A. Al-Osta 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.31 No.5

This work presents a dynamic investigation of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on elastic foundation using a simple quasi-3D higher shear deformation theory (quasi-3D HSDT) in which the stretching effect is considered. The culmination of this theory is that in addition to taking into account the effect of thickness extension (εz ≠ 0), the kinematic is defined with only 4 unknowns, which is even lower than the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The elastic foundation is included in the formulation using the Pasternak mathematical model. The governing equations are deduced through the Hamilton‟s principle. These equations are then solved via closed-type solutions of the Navier type. The fundamental frequencies are predicted by solving the eigenvalue problem. The degree of accuracy of present solutions can be shown by comparing it to the 3D solution and other closed-form solutions available in the literature.

Hygro-thermo-mechanical bending analysis of FGM plates using a new HSDT

Fouad Boukhelf,Mohamed Bachir Bouiadjra,Mohammed Bouremana,Abdelouahed Tounsi 국제구조공학회 2018 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.21 No.1

In this paper, a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is proposed for the analysis of the hygro-thermo-mechanical behavior of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on elastic foundations. The developed model uses a novel kinematic by considering undetermined integral terms and only four variables are used in this model. The governing equations are deduced based on the principle of virtual work and the number of unknown functions involved is reduced to only four, which is less than the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and others HSDTs. The Navier-type exact solutions for static analysis of simply supported FG plates subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loads are presented. The accuracy and efficiency of the present model is validated by comparing it with various available solutions in the literature. The influences of material properties, temperature, moisture, plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratios and elastic coefficients parameters on deflections and stresses of FG plates are also investigated.

      • Nonlinear thermoelastic analysis of FGM thick plates

        Bouhlali, Malika,Chikh, Abdelbaki,Bouremana, Mohammed,Kaci, Abdelhakim,Bourada, Fouad,Belakhdar, Khalil,Tounsi, Abdelouahed Techno-Press 2019 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.8 No.5

In this paper, a new application of a four variable refined plate theory to analyze the nonlinear bending of functionally graded plates exposed to thermo-mechanical loadings, is presented. This recent theory is based on the assumption that the transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces, and similarly, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. The derived transverse shear strains has a quadratic variation across the thickness that satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The solutions are achieved by minimizing the total potential energy. The non-linear strain-displacement relations in the von Karman sense are used to derive the effect of geometric non-linearity. It is concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the nonlinear bending behavior of functionally graded plates.

Wave dispersion properties in imperfect sigmoid plates using various HSDTs

        Belaid Batou,Mokhtar Nebab,Riadh Bennai,Hassen Ait Atmane,Abdeldjebbar Tounsi,Mohammed Bouremana 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.33 No.5

In this paper, wave propagations in sigmoid functionally graded (S-FG) plates are studied using new Higher Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) based on two-dimensional (2D) elasticity theory. The current higher order theory has only four unknowns, which mean that few numbers of unknowns, compared with first shear deformations and others higher shear deformations theories and without needing shear corrector. The material properties of sigmoid functionally graded are assumed to vary through thickness according sigmoid model. The S-FG plates are supposed to be imperfect, which means that they have a porous distribution (even and uneven) through the thickness of these plates. The governing equations of S-FG plates are derived employed Hamilton's principle. Using technique of Navier, differential equations of S-FG in terms displacements are solved. Extensive results are presented to check the efficient of present methods to predict wave dispersion and velocity wave in S-FG plates.
