        Growth of nanostructured ZnO on wearable fabrics for functional garment

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>ZnO thin films and nanorods were grown via a wet chemical route on various wearable fabrics such as cotton, nylon, and polyester. The seed layer of ZnO was deposited by a dip-pad-cure method, and thermolysis assisted chemical solution method was used to grow well-aligned ZnO nanorods. The growth behaviors were investigated by comparing ZnO nanorods with/without a seed layer and on different fabrics. The seed layer significantly influenced the growth of ZnO nanorods while the types of fabrics did not. Nanostructured ZnO on fabrics showed reduced diffused reflectance near 380nm by absorbing UV light. Increased electrical conductivity was also observed due to the ZnO nanorods.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> ZnO nanostructures were grown at low temperature via solution methods on fabrics. </LI> <LI> The ZnO seed layer was critical for the growth of ZnO nanorods on fabrics. </LI> <LI> The ZnO nanorods on fabrics showed comparable properties with solid substrates. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Physalis alkekengi L. var. francheti alleviates neuronal cell death caused by activated microglia in vitro

        Microglia are the macrophages that reside in the brain. Activated microglia induces further activation of astrocytes and neuronal cells for mounting an immune response. However, activated microglia release neurotoxic mediators causing neuroinflammation, which is associated with chronic etiology of neurodegenerative diseases. We investigated the effect of ethanol extract of Physalis alkekengi L. var. francheti fruit (PAFE) on neuronal cell death mediated by activated microglia. PAFE decreased NO production and IL-6 secretion in LPS-stimulated BV-2 and primary microglial cells without reducing cell viability. Consistently, treatment with PAFE decreased iNOS and COX-2 expression and ERK phosphorylation in LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells. Finally, apoptosis of N2a cells grown in conditioned media prepared from LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells containing PAFE was inhibited via downregulation of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. Taken together, PAFE alleviates neuronal cell death by reducing neurotoxic mediators such as NO and IL-6 from activated microglia. Therefore, it could be a potential candidate to treat neurodegenerative diseases caused by chronic neuroinflammation.

        Hypoxia inhibition of camptothecin-induced apoptosis by Bax loss

        <B>Abstract</B><P>Tumor cell hypoxia is linked to the resistance of human solid tumors to the various anti-cancer therapies: thus, its exploitation has been considered to be a potential target for cancer treatment. Previously, we demonstrated for the first time that hypoxia inhibits apoptosis induced by tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) through blocking translocation of Bax, a pro-apoptotic protein, from the cytosol to the mitochondria. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanism coupling hypoxia to resistance for drugs, especially for anti-cancer chemotherapeutics, still remains to be elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that hypoxia attenuates camptothecin (CPT)-induced apoptosis by decreasing the protein levels of Bax, thereby leading to resistance to the drug. DNA damage after exposure to CPT resulted in an increase of p53, and a concomitant up-regulation of p21, regardless of oxygen content. Under normoxic condition, CPT induced expression of p53 and its down-stream target molecule Bax as well, in the presence of increased p21. In contrast, when preexposed to hypoxia, Bax-inducing activity of CPT was completely lost and the Bax level was even decreased, although CPT increased both p53 and p21 as observed under normoxic condition. Our data indicate that hypoxia attenuates apoptosis via Bax. Our data also suggest that hypoxia regulates tumor cell apoptosis differentially, through regulating Bax translocation or through down-regulating Bax levels, depending on death-inducing signals as shown by TRAIL- or CPT-induced apoptosis.</P>

      • User Musical Taste Prediction Technique Using Music Metadata and Features

        The digital music market has been growing significantly in the past years. In music streaming services, music recommendation plays a key role, but Korean users’ recognition about their music service is not high because the service’s recommendation accuracy is not good. Therefore, this paper suggests technique to predict the user’s musical taste. This technique proceeds through a four-step process; data collection, data pre-processing, feature extraction, and machine learning. Collection of data was taken from TOP 100 chart in ‘Melon’, the number one music service provider in Korea from December 2013 to March 2015. Then, collected MP3 file format is converted into WAV file format. In the stage of feature extraction, we classify the genre from the music’s metadata and extract factors that can be taken using STFT’s ZCR, Spectral Rolloff, Spectral Flux. In the stage of machine learning, we produce a prediction model in a variety of classification techniques. To measure the performance of the created prediction model, 456 data were used for training dataset and 130 data were used for validation dataset. Since the results of experiment show an average of 78% of accuracy, the proposed technique seems to be effective.

        격리도 향상을 통한 배열안테나의 성능개선 연구

        본 논문에서는 배열안테나의 성능개선의 한 방법으로 표면파제어를 통한 격리도 개선에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 배열의 소자 간 격리도 개선을 위해 Perfect Magnetic Conductor(PMC)와 SOFT-표면을 도입하였으며, 접지면의 중앙부에 이들을 삽입하여 모의실험을 진행함으로써 격리도 변화와 성능개선 유무를 알아보았다. 모의실험 결과, E-plane 배열에서 PMC와 SOFT-표면 모두 최대 40 ㏈ 이상의 격리도 향상과 더불어 최대 2.2 ㏈i 정도의 이득 개선을 확인하였으며, Hplane 배열의 경우, 표면파 전파를 통한 상호결합보다 공기 중의 field를 통한 상호결합이 보다 크게 작용하는 것을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 향후 소형 배열안테나 개발 및 배열안테나의 성능개선 등에 유용하게 사용될 것이다. In this paper, we have studied isolation enhancement using a suppression of surface wave to improve performance of array antenna. To reduce isolation between elements of array antenna, perfect magnetic conductor(PMC) and SOFT-surface is designed and located at center of ground plane, isolation and gain is simulated by commercial full wave simulator(HFSS). As a result, isolation of more than 40 ㏈ and gain improvement of 2.2 ㏈i are obtained at E-plane array in case of both PMC and SOFT-surface. At H-plane array, air coupling is dominant compared to coupling by surface wave. It is conclude that this study is useful for design of compact array antenna and performance improvement of array antenna.

        차세대 시퀀싱을 위한 짧은 서열 정렬에 대한 기술조사

        차세대 시퀀싱 기술은 전통적인 Sanger시퀀싱 방법보다 저렴한 비용과 빠른 데이터 생산 속도 등의 장점을 이용하여 빠르게 발전되었다. 현재 많이 사용되는 차세대 시퀀싱 기술 방식은 Roche의 GS-FLX, Illumina (Solexa)의 Genome Analyzer, Life Technologies의 SOLiD방식이다. 차세대 시퀀싱 기술 방식을 통해서 생산된 단편서열들은 Sanger시퀀싱을 통해서 생산되는 서열에 비해서 그 길이가 짧고, 대량의 단편서열을 사용하기 때문에, 서열 재조합시 참조 서열을 이용한 맵핑이 활용된다. 다량의 짧은 서열의 빠른 처리를 위해 인덱싱 기반의 휴리스틱 알고리즘들이 개발되어 사용되고 있다. 이러한 방법으로는 해쉬 테이블에 기반한 방법, 접미사 트리에 기반한 방법, 접미사 배열의 변형된 형태인 Burrows-Wheeler transform 에 기반한 방법이 있다. 이 논문에서는 현재 개발된 서열 정렬 알고리즘들을 살펴보고, 다양한 차세대 시퀀싱 맵핑 프로그램들을 소개한다. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies have been rapidly advanced. These new technologies are higher throughput with lower costs compared to the Sanger sequencing. Recently available next-generation sequencers are the GS-FLX (Roche), Genome Analyzer (Illumina), and SOLiD (Life Technologies). However, the NGS produces much shorter sequences (reads) and large volumes of reads compared to conventional sequencing, whereby huge amounts of short reads are aligned onto a reference. For fast mapping of the massive amounts of short reads, a lot of mapping algorithms/programs have been developed by indexing-based heuristic algorithms: Hash table-based, Suffix tree-based, and Burrows-Wheeler transform (BWT)-based algorithms. In this article, we review the current alignment algorithms, and introduce NGS mapping programs.

        단편 서열의 효율적인 가시화를 위한 지놈 브라우저 데이터베이스 설계

        지놈 브라우저는 유전체 참조서열에 정렬된 다양한 종류의 데이터와 정보를 시각적으로 보여주는 가시화 도구이다. 차세대 시퀀싱 기술을 이용하여 생산되는 서열의 양이 증가함에 따라, 유전학적 데이터 분석을 위해서 많은 시간을 소비하게 되며, 시각적인 가시화 도구가 없이는 분석에 많은 어려움이 따른다. 현재 가장 널리 사용되는 브라우저중 하나는 GBrowse(Genetic Genome Browser)이다. GBrowse는 GFF(Generic Feature Format) 데이터베이스와 염기서열을 저장하는 파일형식인 SAM(Sequence Alignment/Map)파일로 구성된다. 하지만, 유전자 시퀸싱이 일반화되고 그 양이 증가함에 따라, 많은 양의 짧은 단편서열을 파일시스템으로 관리하는 것보다 지놈 브라우저에 알맞은 새로운 데이터베이스 설계를 활용하는 것이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 데이터 저장 공간을 줄이고, 큰 용량의 유전체 데이터를 지놈 브라우저에 빨리 전달하고 명확한 가시화를 제공하기 위해 설계한 데이터베이스 구조를 제안한다. 제안한 데이터베이스는 줌 레벨을 고려하고, IOT(Index Organized Tables)와 파티션 기법 및 아스키코드에 기반한다. Genome browser is a viewer which graphically provides a wide variety of data types and information aligned to the reference genome. As the amount of genomic sequence in Next Generation Sequencing increase, genomic pattern analysis would be extremely time consuming and difficult without graphical display. Currently one of the most prevalent browsers is the Genetic Genome Browser (GBrowse). It consists of GFF database and a set of one or more SAM-format files that contain DNA sequences. However, as sequencing of genomic data becomes increasingly affordable, it requires a new database design to manage a large volume of short reads instead of file-based system. This article proposes a new database to reduce data storage size, to speed up large genome data transfer to genome browser, and to further provide users a clear view. It is achieved by considering Zoom-level, and is based on IOT, Partitioning, and ASCII-code.

        COVID-19와 청년창업

        본 연구는 지난 3년간 예기치 못한 COVID-19 팬데믹 사태로 인해 영향을 받은 청년창업의 현황을 검토하여 청년창업 지원정책, 대학교육현황, 투자현황 등이 청년창업에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 하였다. 최근 청년지원정책이 양적성장만을 지원하는 체계의 한계를 극복하고 창업단계별 맞춤지원과 재도전에 대한 지원이 확대되고 있는 것으로 확인되었으며, 창업 교육을 통하여 창업을 단계적으로 준비하여 부정적이고 불확실적인 측면을 낮추는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 청년창업기업들이 사업화 이후 실질적 매출증가와 지속적 투자유치를 토대로 자립성을 확보할 수 있는 방안을 고찰 할 수 있도록 실제 투자전문가의 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 그 결과 청년창업 아이디어의 시장검증으로 차별성, 수익성, 지속가능성을 확인한 후 비즈니스 모델에 적합한 핵심 인력을 중심으로 사업성을 평가하는 것이 중요한 요소임을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 팬데믹 상황이 장기화 되고 있는 현시점에서 앞으로 청년창업이 겪게 될 예기치 못한 어려움들에 대비 할 수 있는 시사점을 제시하였다. This article aims at examine the current status of young entrepreneurship that has been affected by the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic over the past three years to determine how young entrepreneurship support policies, university education, and investment status affect young entrepreneurship. To do this, focus group interview with an actual investment expert (VC, AC etc) was conducted so that young start-up companies could consider ways to secure independence in the investment environment through substantial sales increase and continuous investment attraction after commercialization. As a result, after confirming differentiation, profitability, and sustainability through market verification of young startup ideas, it was confirmed that it is an important factor to evaluate business feasibility with a focus on key personnel suitable for the business model. In addition, it has been confirmed that the young support policy overcomes the limitations of the system that supports only quantitative growth, and supports customized support for each stage of start-up and support for re-challenge are expanding. This study presented implications for preparing for the unexpected difficulties that young entrepreneurs will face in the future at a time when the pandemic situation is prolonged.
