This study was carried out to find contradiction factors on laws for children's activity spaces and facilities and to suggest the rational options to control and manage those spaces and facilities by environmental and landscape planning methods. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The major laws related to the environmental safety for children's activity spaces are "Environmental Health Act (ERA)" for managing the environmental safety of children's activity spaces; "Safety Supervision Law of Children's Play Facilities(SSLCPF)" for the inspection and management for safety of children's play facilities; "Quality Management and Industrial Products Safety Management Law(QMIPSML)" for managing safety certification on children's play equipments. 2. The interior space such as "living room" by the Children's Welfare Law(CWL), "Children Park" by the Act on Urban Parks and Green Spaces(AUPGS), "classroom" on private educational institutes by the Act on Establishment and Operation Private Lesson and Training(AEOPLT) and "nursing room" of child care center smaller than $430m^2$ are needed to be managed as an activity space. 3. In order to reduce industrial burden in the production, establishment, construction, and operation and to minimize unwilling extra burden in the administration effort due to legally double regulate, it is necessary to mitigate the inspections on the equipment certificate from QMIPSML and overlapped or different factors and standards must be unified. With this study, the landscape domain could he enlarged from producing, import of play equipment and establishment, construction and operation of play facilities for a comprehensive range of activity spaces, and the landscape industry such as engineering industry, academic research, management, etc.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is rich in antioxidant properties. This study aimed to analyze three extraction methods, namely hot water extraction at 80oC (HWE), prethanol-A extraction (PAE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), to induce high antioxidant activities from ginseng seeds and sprouts. A significant increase in hydrogen peroxide inhibition was observed with the UAE method compared to that with the HWE and PAE methods. The ascorbate peroxidase activity as well as the total phenolic and flavonoid contents were increased in the UAE method, whereas the peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione activities were increased in the HWE method. In contrast, high catalase activity was observed in the seeds and sprouts treated with UAE and HWE, respectively. The overall results suggested that UAE can be an efficient method to obtain higher antioxidant activities from the ginseng seed and sprout extracts.

National reference standards (NRSs) for biologics are established through potency estimation by a multi-center joint study of standard materials used in the approval process for national lot release and quality control of vaccines, blood products, and other biologics. In this study, a stability evaluation was conducted to determine whether the potency of NRSs for six blood products was being maintained at a consistent level in Korea. The present study conducted real-time stability tests via in-vivo/in-vitro bioassay on NRSs for blood coagulation factor VIII concentrate (2nd standard), antithrombin concentrate, prekallikrein activator, anti-hepatitis B immunoglobulin, blood coagulation factor IX concentrate, and anti-tetanus human immunoglobulin, as well as a trend analysis using cumulative annual results. The real-time stability test results showed that the mean potency of six NRSs was all within the control limit. In the trend analysis, the potency of NRS for blood coagulation factor VIII concentrate (2nd standard) showed a decreasing trend, while the potency of all other products had been stably maintained. The present study confirmed that the mean potency of NRSs for six blood products had been stably maintained in Korea. The findings of the present study establish a foundation that can ensure the quality of NRSs for biologics in Korea, and it is expected to make a major contribution to the supply of high-quality biologics.

Park, Kyung-Jae,Kang, Shin-Hyuk,Chae, Yang-Seok,Yu, Mi-Ok,Cho, Tai-Hyoung,Suh, Jung-Keun,Lee, Hoon-Kap,Chung, Yong-Gu Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group 2010 Journal of Neurosurgery Vol.112 No.1
Object
Peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) is associated with perioperative neurological deficits in patients with meningiomas. However, the pathogenesis of meningioma-associated edema remains unclear. In the present study, the authors investigated the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its relationship with PTBE in resected meningiomas.
Methods
Thirty-six benign meningiomas obtained in 36 patients were studied retrospectively. Edema volume was assessed on MR images, and an edema index (EI) was calculated. Interleukin-6 mRNA and protein expression were examined by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical staining.
Results
Peritumoral brain edema was found in 16 patients (44%). Neither age, sex, histological subtype, nor tumor location were related to PTBE. The level of IL-6 mRNA was 7.72 times greater in the edema group (EI > 0.2) than in the nonedema group (EI < 0.2; p = 0.011). On immunohistochemical analysis, IL-6 protein was found localized in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells, and was detected in 12 (75%) of 16 cases of edematous meningiomas, but in only 6 (30%) of 20 nonedematous cases. There was a significant correlation between the severity of PTBE and IL-6 expression (p = 0.004).
Conclusions
The authors' results in this study indicate that IL-6 expression may contribute to the development of brain edema associated with meningiomas.

PARK, Jin-Kyu,HAN, Jung-Youn,HONG, Il-Hwa,HWANG, Ok-Kyung,HONG, Kyung-Sook,JI, Ae-Ri,KI, Mi-Ran,PARK, Se-Il,KIM, Tae-Hwan,CHOI, Dong-Hag,JEONG, Kyu-Shik Japanese Society of Veterinary Science 2009 The Journal of veterinary medical science Vol.71 No.7

A 4-year-old, male, dachshund was referred to a certain local veterinary hospital because of a soft and fluctuant swelling in the left upper cervical region. The swelling was surgically removed and appeared to be filled with bloody mucus. Grossly, the swelling was identified as salivary mucocele and showed small multifocal whitish ossified tissue on its surface. Microscopically, the wall of salivary mucocele appeared as granulation tissue surrounding mucin, which was composed of loose edematous and vascularized connective tissue containing chronic inflammatory cells such as lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. Characteristically, present case had ossifying components formed by metaplastic spindle cells in the wall of salivary mucocele. Therefore, the present case was diagnosed as salivary mucocele with osseous metaplasia in a dog.

Fabry disease is a lysosomal storage disease caused by a deficiency of alpha-galactosidase A, which results in aberrant glycosphingolipid metabolism and accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3). Since a correlation between the level of Gb3 and clinical manifestations of Fabry disease has not been observed, we investigated potential diagnostic biomarkers. Hepatic and renal gene expression of male alpha-galactosidase A-deficient mice (Fabry mice) was compared with that of wild-type mice. Microarray analyses were performed using samples taken before and after intravenous infusion of alpha-galactosidase A. The identified genes were validated using quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot assay. Expression of hepatic Serum Amyloid A1 (Saa1), S100 Calcium-binding protein A8 and A9 (S100a8 and a9), and Lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) and renal Neuropeptide Y (Npy), Thrombospondin 2 and 4 (Tsp-2 and -4) was significantly upregulated in Fabry mice compared with wild-type mice and normalized by enzyme replacement therapy. Plasma concentrations of Lcn2 and Npy were also greater in Fabry mice and reduced to wild-type levels after enzyme replacement therapy, although the plasma concentrations of these proteins show heterogeneity. Upregulation of Saa1, S100a8, S100a9 and Lcn2 may modulate inflammation and Lcn2, Npy and Tsp may be associated with vascular and renal involvement in Fabry disease. Furthermore, these genes are promising targets for developing biomarkers for monitoring disease progression and therapeutic efficacy in patients with Fabry disease.
