        Unraveling the Other Side of the Coin: Outward FDI of Emerging-market Multinationals and Reverse Technology Spillovers

        Purpose Building on the literature on foreign direct investment (FDI) spillovers and 2R-based view, we aim to hypothesize and examine whether outward FDI contributes to the productivity of domestic firms in a large emerging market. In addition, we explore how firm-specific knowledge resources and subnational regions may matter considerably in shaping the contribution of outward FDI spillovers to the productivity of domestic firms. Design/Methodology/Approach We test our hypotheses empirically using a longitudinal dataset of Chinese manufacturing firms and the panel data approach. Findings We observe the positive contribution of outward FDI spillovers to the productivity of domestic firms in China. Moreover, we demonstrate that subnational regions play a crucial role in explaining the variations in the contribution of outward FDI spillovers to the productivity of domestic firms. Research Implications Our study conducts an initial examination on whether outward FDI matters for domestic firms and how knowledge resources within firms and subnational regions where firms are located shape the contribution of outward FDI spillovers to the productivity of firms in large emerging markets. Our findings offer important theoretical and practical implications.

        DC Injection Control for Grid-Connected Single-Phase Inverters Based on Virtual Capacitor

        DC injection is a critical issue in transformerless grid-connected inverters. DC injection control based on virtual capacitor has the advantages of low cost, low loss, high accuracy and easy implementation. In this paper, the principle of DC injection control based on virtual capacitor was analyzed. In addition, the applicable conditions, working process, steady state error and advantages were also discussed in detail. The design of the control parameters based on virtual capacitor was proposed in a grid-connected inverter with LCL filter. The robustness of the control parameters was also discussed. Simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the analysis and demonstrate that this research has a certain value in engineering applications.

        The Effect of Flow Rate of a Short Sleeve Air Ventilation Garment on Torso Thermal Comfort in a Moderate Environment

        In recent years, air ventilation garments (AVG) have been reported effective to improve thermal comfort. In thisstudy, an AVG incorporated with small fans was investigated on torso thermal comfort in moderate environment (Ta=25 oC,RH=50 %). Eight female subjects walked on the treadmill at a speed of 4 km·h-1 for 30 min and then rested for another30 min. During the whole test protocol, the AVG was worn in three conditions of flow rates to examine which flow rate wasthe best choice to keep thermal comfort: fans off with no air ventilation (a controlled condition, CON), low flow rate (12 l/s,LOW) and high flow rate (20 l/s, HIGH). Results showed that HIGH made significantly lowered local skin temperature of theabdomen, scapula and the lower back (p<0.05). The mean torso skin temperature in CON, LOW and HIGH in the last 5 minin the exercising stage was 32.3, 30.2 and 29.2 oC, respectively and it was 32.1, 29.5 and 28.2 oC, respectively in the restingstage. HIGH significantly mitigated thermal sensation in the 40 and 50th min (p<0.05), whereas it produced cool andunpleasant thermal sensation in the resting stage. In the whole test scenario, LOW produced the best torso thermal comfort. The low flow rate of ventilation (12 l/s) should be recommend and used in such a moderate environment to maintain torsothermal comfort.

        중국 온라인 타임 세일이 실제 구매에 미치는 효과 : 징동닷컴에 대한 실증 연구

        This study explores the effect of time-deals, i.e., online promotions with time limit. Recently many online/mobile shopping sites in China utilize so called hot deal marketing technique for a short duration at a specific time. The purpose of “time-deals” is to attract online shoppers with deep discounted price and induce consumers to purchase items. This paper examines the effect of time-deals on sales volume, firstly by comparing the sales volume of time-deal days with that of no time-deal days and secondly by comparing the sales volume of days before and after two types of time deals, usual time-deals and special time-deals, Although some prior research studied the role of time-deals in promoting consumers’ purchase behavior, most used the experimental approach by building mock-up shopping sites and asking participants purchase intention. However, purchase intention does not always result in purchase behavior. This study extracted actual purchase data for four items on time-deals from an online shopping site in China. A comparison of sales volumes on time-deal days with no time-deal days has shown the significant difference in the sales volumes. This finding confirms the positive effect of time-deals on purchase behavior. This study has also found that special time-deals soak up near-future demands in advance and lower the sales after the special time-deal event, although there is no significant difference in sales before and after usual time-deals.

        Study on the Backlash Measurement and Software Compensation of Basis Weight Control Valve

        The precision of the basis weight control valve, which is equipped with a planetary reducer, cannot meet the requirements of field applications because the transmission backlash was neglected. Applied technological research on backlash measurement and compensation is described in this paper. A backlash measurement experimental device was developed to measure the backlash of the basis weight control valve. Both the rotation angle of the input shaft and output shaft of the actuator were measured, and the transmission backlash was obtained. The test results from a sample with a type DN 125 ㎜ valve showed that the average backlash value was 13.32 arcmin , the percentage was 0.247% compared to the full travel range of the valve, and the precision of the valve could only reach 405 steps if the backlash was not compensated. A software compensation method for reverse movement backlash is proposed. A number for the control pulse signal equivalent to the value of the backlash was added at the reverse moment, which was used to counteract the backlash of the transmission mechanical system. The final positioning error was 0.0181% after software compensation, and it can meet the required precision of 5,000 steps.

        Experimental investigation and evaluation of the performance of air-source heat pumps for indoor thermal comfort control

        Air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) have been widely used in domestic buildings. However, the regulation performance of ASHPs for indoor thermal comfort control is influenced by the factors such as cold draft and slow response to the variation in room temperature. In this paper, a range of experiments was carried out for 14 ASHPs in an indoor environmental chamber under both cooling and heating conditions. A multi-index comprehensive evaluation model including the questionnaire survey method, the weighted scoring method and the quartile algorithm method was then adopted to analyze the tested data in order to give some intuitive indices to evaluate the regulation performance of ASHPs for indoor thermal comfort control. The results showed that unsatisfied factor of the overall thermal comfort under the cooling conditions was reached to 71 %. Besides, the precision of the temperature control was poor in both cooling and heating conditions, which manifesting ASHPs need a novel matched adjust mode and more intelligent control system to meet thermal comfort requirement. This study provided a reference basis for evaluating ASHP’s regulation performance on indoor thermal comfort.

        Molecular cloning and expression analysis of the transcription factor CobHLH40 from Cornus officinalis on the basis of de novo transcriptome sequencing

        Cornus officinalis is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine rich in active substances, such as iridoid glycosides, esters, polysaccharides, and tannins. C. officinalis replenishes the liver and kidney and retracts and removes phlegm. In this study, the candidate transcription factor bHLH40 from C. officinalis (CobHLH40) was predicted to be involved in iridoid glycoside biosynthesis. CobHLH40 was cloned from C. officinalis. Bioinformatics analysis was performed using the Protparatam, the ProtScale, and the SOPMA. CobHLH40 had a cDNA length of 2100 bp and a relative molecular mass of 63.32 kDa, and encoded 573 amino acids. The subcellular localization analysis indicated that CobHLH40 may be located in the nucleus. The comparison of multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic relationships showed that the CobHLH40 was similar to the MYC2 of other plants, and that CobHLH40 had high homology with the MYC2 of Sesamum indicum. A prokaryotic expression vector was successfully constructed and transformed into the DE3 cells. The induction and expression of the fusion protein of CobHLH40 need further confirmation. The cloning and bioinformatics analysis results of CobHLH40, which may be related to iridoid glycoside synthesis, were screened and predicted for the first time on the basis of C. officinalis transcriptome sequencing. The temporal and spatial expression patterns of C. officinalis were also established. The CobHLH40 prokaryotic expression system provides a basis to further study its function.

        User Commitment to Blockchain-Based Social Media Platforms from the Perspective of Perceived Justice Regarding the Token Reward System: the Mediating Role of Psychological Ownership

        Purpose – In this study, we aimed to theorize blockchain-based social media platform users’ commitment by examining the impact of their perceived justice of the token reward system. In addition, this study applied psychological ownership theory to verify the underlying mechanism between users’ perceptions of justice and their commitment to the platforms. Research design, data, and methodology – To empirically test our conceptual framework in the study, we collected data through a web-based survey approach from the responses of 385 users who had experience with blockchainbased social media platforms. We employed a structural equation modeling approach to empirically test our proposed hypotheses. Result – The results indicated that distributive justice and informational justice have positive effects on user commitment. The results also showed that psychological ownership plays an important role in mediating the relationship between users’ sense of distributive justice and commitment, and between procedural justice and commitment. The findings provided a better understanding of the sense of justice and user commitment in a blockchain-based social media environment. Conclusion – This study represents a preliminary attempt to theorize and empirically examine blockchain-based social media platform users’ commitment. This study provided important contributions to the literature on how the effect of users’ sense of justice in a reward system affects their commitment to blockchain-based social media platforms.
