Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. lactis R4 Prevents Salmonella typhimurium SL1344-Induced Damage to Tight Junctions and Adherens Junctions

        Qinghua Yu,Liqi Zhu,Zhisheng Wang,Pengcheng Li,Qian Yang 한국미생물학회 2012 The journal of microbiology Vol.50 No.4

Cell junctions are the gatekeepers of the paracellular route and defend the mucosal barrier. Several enteropathogenic bacteria can invade intestinal epithelial cells by targeting and damaging cell junctions. It is not well understood how Salmonella typhimurium is able to overcome the intestinal barrier and gain access to the circulation, nor is it understood how Lactobacillus prevents the invasion of S. typhimurium. Therefore, we sought to determine whether infection with S. typhimurium SL1344 could regulate the molecular composition of cell junctions and whether Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. lactis R4 could affect this modification. Our data demonstrated that infection of Caco-2 cells with S. typhimurium over 2 h resulted in a redistribution of claudin-1, ZO-1, occluding, and E-cadherin. Western blot analysis of epithelial cell lysates demonstrated that S. typhimurium could decrease the expression of cell junction proteins. However, L. delbrueckii ssp. lactis R4 ameliorated this destruction and induced increased expression of ZO-1, occludin, and E-cadherin relative to the levels in the control group. The results of these experiments implied that S. typhimurium may facilitate its uptake and distribution within the host by regulating the molecular composition of cell junctions. Furthermore,Lactobacillus may prevent the adhesion and invasion of pathogenic bacteria by maintaining cell junctions and the mucosal barrier.

      • Value of Children among Chinese Mothers: Cohort Effects and Urban-rural Differences*

        Ma LI,Yingying JIANG,Liqi ZHU 한국공공가치학회 2021 공공가치연구 Vol.1 No.1

China is facing a dramatic decrease of fertility rate, even after the one-child policy has been changed to two-children policy. Psychologists propose that value of children may account for willingness to deliver babies. Value of children (VOC) includes VOC+ (which means the positive values of children) and VOC- (the cost and expenditure of having children). This study compared value of children among different cohorts of Chinese women and women in urban and rural areas in China. In Study 1, 203 mothers of childbearing age in China were recruited to complete VOC scale. Their responses were then compared with 208 mothers born in 1920~1949 and 206 mothers born in 1950~1979 in the study by Zheng et al., (2005). Cohort effects were found in all VOC dimensions, the current generation pays less attention to children s traditional value of economic support and old-age security, and pays more attention to children s emotional and familial values, as well as the disadvantages and constraints in delivering babies, indicating Chinese women s values of children have changed over time. In Study 2, women in three areas of different economic levels were recruited. Results showed differences in both VOC+ and VOC- dimensions: women in remote rural areas put more emphasis on “traditional VOC”, while participants in urban areas rated higher in VOC-. This may explain why the fertility rate in urban area is even lower than that in rural area in China. Reasons of intergenerational and urban-rural differences are further discussed.

Measurement and Characterization of Unstable Pixels of Long-wavelength HgCdTe Infrared Focal Plane Array

        Yu Zhang,Songmin Zhou,Xun Li,Xi Wang,Liqi Zhu,Chun Lin 대한전자공학회 2022 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.22 No.2

Unstable pixels directly affect the imaging quality of the long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) mercury cadmium telluride (HgCdTe, MCT) focal-plane-array (FPA) detector. This study investigates the unstable pixels of LWIR HgCdTe linear arrays with different passivation. According to the different fluctuation characteristics, the unstable pixels are classified into four types: trend-clear type (including the rising and declining pixels), fluctuating type, comb type, and telegraph type. The number of unstable pixels under different bias voltage is counted, which indicates that when the bias voltage is large enough, the number of unstable pixels can increase sharply. By comparing the characteristics of the unstable pixels of two linear arrays with different passivation, we find that the unstable pixels are sensitive to the surface passivation. In addition, the dark currents of unstable pixels and that of normal pixels are compared, inferring that there is no apparent connection between the cause of the instability of the pixels and that of the dark current.
