Representation of Volume Change for Bentonite in Saline Solution based on Modified Effective Stress
Xiaoyue Li,Chaoyang Li,Yongfu Xu 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.23 No.5
Bentonite is usually selected as the buffering barrier material for high-level nuclear waste repository due to its characteristics of high expansibility and low permeability, yet the swelling properties are influenced by the saline solution existing in the fissures of surrounding rocks. Quantifying the effects of saline solution concentration on the swelling property of compacted bentonite is significant for assessing the security of engineering barrier used to dispose high-level radioactive waste. In this study, the modified effective stress incorporating with osmotic suction generated from saline solution is proposed to depict the volume changes for bentonite in saline solution with different concentrations by a unique equation. The osmotic suctions are calculated with the simplified Debye-Hückel equation and the results are validated by comparing with the experimental data in other literatures. The published experimental data prove the uniform relationship between the volume change and the modified effective stress in saline solution with different concentrations. Therefore, the quantitative predictions of volume change of bentonite in saline solution with different concentrations are presented using the modified effective stress concept.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are highly conserved, short non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. Although many miRNAs are identified in muscles and muscle cells, their individual roles are still not fully understood. In the present study, we investigated a muscle highly-expressed miRNA, miR-127-3p, in C2C12 myoblasts and tissues of goats with different muscle phenotypes (Boer vs Wushan black goats). Our results demonstrated that i) miR-127-3p was extensively expressed in tissues of goats; ii) miR-127-3p was higher expressed in muscle, spleen, heart, and skin in the muscular goats (Boer goats) than the control (Wushan black goats). Then we further characterized the dynamical expression of miR-127-3p, MyoD, MyoG, Myf5, Mef2c, and Myosin in the proliferating and differentiating C2C12 myoblasts at day of 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 in culture mediums. Especially, we found that miR-127-3p was significantly higher expressed in the proliferating than differentiating cells. Our findings suggest that miR-127-3p probably plays roles in the proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts, which further underlies regulation of muscle phenotype in goats.

In this paper, some strong convergence theorems are obtained for hybrid method for modified Ishikawa iteration process of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings and asymptotically nonexpansive semigroups in Hilbert spaces. The results presented in this article generalize and improve results of Tae-Hwa Kim and Hong-Kun Xu and others. The convergence rate of the iteration process presented in this article is faster than hybrid method of Tae-Hwa Kim and Hong-Kun Xu and others.

A total of 320 ESTs (Expressed Sequence Tags, 12.8%) of rice planthoppers were identified to carry SSR (Simple Sequence Repeat) motifs from2491 ESTs downloaded frompublic database, and 397 pairs of brown planthopper (BPH; Nilaparvata lugens Stål) and 25 pairs ofwhite-backed planthopper (WBPH; Sogatella furcifera) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) EST-SSR were detected based on the motifs. The dinucleotide repeat was the dominant type with repeat motif AG/GA/TC/CT; and the trinucleotide repeat was the style of AAG/AGA/GAA/TTC/TCT/CTT among the BPH repeat motifs. A total of 20 EST-SSRs (16 developed in the present study and four fromprevious studies) were applied to survey the genetic diversity of the 15 rice planthoppers. Consequently, 18 pairs of primer amplifies clear, dominant and polymorphic gel bands among the collected planthoppers population; one ESTSSR amplified a single gel band; and one had no result. Furthermore, a total of 227 bands were produced by the selected 19 pairs of primers, of which 207 bands (91.2%) were polymorphic among the test insect populations. Genetic diversity analysis suggested that the BPH populations from Cuu Long, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh were clustered, respectively; and Hue and Long Xuyen were composed into one class; the others were clustered together when the similar coefficient was 0.76. The results show that it is an effective and available approach to develop SSR markers based on ESTs in rice planthoppers; and also the developed EST-SSR markers could detect the genetic diversity of the planthoppers population, which would be beneficial for rice planthoppers control strategy. ©
Spatial correlation of aerodynamic forces on 5:1 rectangular cylinder in different VIV stages
Yongfu Lei,Yanguo Sun,Tianyi Zhang,Xiongwei Yang,Ming-shui Li 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.34 No.1
To better understand the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) characteristics of a 5:1 rectangular cylinder, the distribution of aerodynamic force and the non-dimensional power spectral density (PSD) of fluctuating pressure on the side surface were studied in different VIV development stages, and their differences in the stationary state and vibration stages were analyzed. The spanwise and streamwise correlations of surface pressures were studied, and the flow field structure partitions on the side surface were defined based on the streamwise correlation analysis. The results show that the variation tendencies of mean and root mean square (RMS) pressure coefficients are similar in different VIV development stages. The RMS values during amplitude growth are larger than those at peak amplitude, and the smallest RMS values are observed in the stationary state. The spanwise correlation coefficients of aerodynamic lifts increase with increase of the peak amplitude. However, for the lock-in region, the maximum spanwise correlation coefficient for aerodynamic lifts occurs in the VIV rising stage rather than in the peak amplitude stage, probably due to the interaction of vortex shedding force (VSF) and self-excited force (SEF). The streamwise correlation results show that the demarcation point positions between the recirculation region and the main vortex region remain almost constant in different VIV development stages, and the reattachment points gradually move to the tailing edge with increasing amplitude. This study provides a reference to estimate the demarcation point and reattachment point positions through streamwise correlation and phase angle analysis from wind tunnel tests.
Research of Maize Seeds Classification Recognition Based on the Image Processing
Dongming Li,Yongfu Liu,Liang Gao 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.11
The maize seeds recognition is an important aspect of the seed quality testing and breeding. With the development of computer technology, it is an inevitable tendency to recognize seeds varieties and inspect quality using machine vision instead of human vision. For the characteristics of maize seeds and their images, seeds varieties recognition technology and algorithm was studied and explored in depth and their shape and color feature parameters were extracted. Based on 4 species including Nongda 108, Zhengdan 958, Ludan 981 and Jingdan 28, the classifier was designed using BP neural network to do varieties recognition testing. Research showed the average recognition accuracy was more than 94.5%, and that recognition and detection of maize seeds varieties based on the image technology is feasible.
