        Fullerene coated indium tin oxide counter electrode of Prussian blue electrode for enhanced electrochromic properties

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Fullerene coated ITO electrodes were prepared by a vacuum thermal evaporation system where fullerene (C<SUB>60</SUB>) powders were used as a deposition source. The fullerene coated electrodes act as an ion storage layer for electrochromic devices (ECDs). The ECDs are comprised of Prussian blue (PB) electrodes as the EC electrode, fullerene coated ITO electrodes as the counter electrode, and an electrolyte containing LiClO<SUB>4</SUB> salt. By employing fullerene coated ITO electrodes, the lower transmittance in the colored state (<I>T</I> <SUB> <I>c</I> </SUB>) was achieved because of the lower transmittance of fullerene coated ITO. It led to an increase in the change in optical density (ΔOD) according to the increase in the thickness of the fullerene films. Also, the charge density per electrode area (<I>Q</I> <SUB> <I>d</I> </SUB>) of the ECDs increased with the increase in the thickness of the fullerene films. This result indicates that the amounts of lithium ions and PB molecules, which are used for the EC phenomenon, were increased. As a result, EC properties such as the ΔOD and response time were enhanced by employing fullerene coated ITO electrodes because fullerene films provided the ion storage layer as the counter electrode of the PB electrode.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Electrochromic devices (ECDs) employing C<SUB>60</SUB> coated ITO electrodes were fabricated. </LI> <LI> C<SUB>60</SUB> electrode was employed as the counter electrode of Prussian blue (PB) electrode. </LI> <LI> Effect of C<SUB>60</SUB> films on electrochromic properties of ECDs was investigated. </LI> <LI> C<SUB>60</SUB> films act as an electrochromic layer and an ion storage layer. </LI> <LI> C<SUB>60</SUB> films play a role in enhancing optical properties and response time of ECDs. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        <P>Flowering traits in winter annual Arabidopsis thaliana are conferred mainly by two genes, FRIGIDA (FRI) and FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC). FLC acts as a flowering repressor and is regulated by multiple flowering pathways. We isolated an early-flowering mutant, suppressor of FRIGIDA3 (suf3), which also shows leaf serration, weak apical dominance, and infrequent conversion of the inflorescence shoot to a terminal flower. The suf3 mutation caused a decrease in the transcript level of FLC in both a FRI-containing line and autonomous pathway mutants. However, suf3 showed only a partial reduction of FLC transcript level, although it largely suppressed the late-flowering phenotype. In addition, the suf3 mutation caused acceleration of flowering in both 35S-FLC and a flc null mutant, indicating that SUF3 regulates additional factor(s) for the repression of flowering. SUF3 is highly expressed in the shoot apex, but the expression is not regulated by FRI, autonomous pathway genes, or vernalization. SUF3 encodes the nuclear ACTIN-RELATED PROTEIN6 (ARP6), the homolog of which in yeast is a component of an ATP-dependent chromatin-remodeling SWR1 complex. Our analyses showed that SUF3 regulates FLC expression independent of vernalization, FRI, and an autonomous pathway gene, all of which affect the histone modification of FLC chromatin. Subcellular localization using a green fluorescent protein fusion showed that Arabidopsis ARP6 is located at distinct regions of the nuclear periphery.</P>

      • EFFECTS OF IMAGE CLOSENESS ON THE PERSUASIVENESS OF ADVERTISEMENT

        The study examines the role of image closeness in advertising persuasiveness. To understand how consumers process different degree of image closeness in advertising, we apply construal level theory (CLT) suggests consumers’ perceived spatial distance of visual stimuli influence their level of construal. It also investigates how advertising’s message appeals (rational vs. emotional) and product types (utilitarian vs. hedonic) moderate the effects of construal level on advertising effectiveness. Drawing on CLT, the authors hypothesize that rational appeals will be more persuasive when consumers perceive the product image in advertising as spatially close, while emotional appeals will be more persuasive when consumers perceive it as spatially distant. The study employed 2(near vs. far distance)x2(rational vs. emotional appeal)x2 (utilitarian vs. hedonic product) factorial design. A total of 232 people (108 males) participated in the experiment. Results revealed that spatial distance and advertising appeals had significant interaction effects on attitude towards ad and brand attitude. Particularly, when the image shot looks close, rational appeals are more persuasive than emotional appeals. Comparatively, when the image looks distant, emotional appeals are more persuasive than rational appeals. The two-way interaction between advertising appeals and product type are also significant for attitude toward ad and brand attitude. Particularly, rational appeals for utilitarian product were more persuasive and while emotional appeals for hedonic product were more persuasive. Finally, three way interaction between spatial distance, advertising appeals, and product type had significant effects on brand attitude. When the image looks close, the superior effects of rational appeal compared to emotional appeal was greater in utilitarian product than in hedonic product. Conversely, when the image looks distant, the superior effects of emotional appeal compared to rational appeal was greater in hedonic product than in utilitarian product. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

        A Novel Robot-Assisted Kinematic Measure for Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Preliminary Study

        Objective Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. In contrast to neurocognitive measurements of inattention and impulsivity, there has been limited research regarding the objective measurement of hyperactivity in youths with ADHD. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the clinical effectiveness of a newly developed Robot-assisted Kinematic Measure for ADHD (RAKMA) in children with ADHD. Methods In total, 35 children with ADHD aged 5 to 12 years and 50 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited, and the parents completed the Child Behavior Checklist and the Korean ADHD Diagnostic Scale. RAKMA performance was represented by RAKMA stimulus-response and hyperactivity variables. We compared the RAKMA performance of those with ADHD and with that of HCs and also investigated the correlation between the RAKMA variables and ADHD clinical scale scores. Results Significant differences between the ADHD and HC groups were observed regarding most RAKMA variables, including correct reactions, commission errors, omission errors, reaction times, migration distance, and migration speed scores. Significant correlations were detected between various ADHD clinical scale scores and RAKMA variables. Conclusion The RAKMA was a clinically useful tool for objectively measuring hyperactivity symptoms in children with ADHD. Further studies with larger samples are warranted.

      • 明治憲法下における立憲主義の考察 : Under Meiji constitution law

        The first modern constitution law adopted in Japan in 1889, coming after strong SAMURAI centrol government dominated by feudal system for nearly two hundred half centries. In this constitution, it was aimed that restoration of real power for soverignity of Meiji Emperor based especially on the monarchy focusing constitution in Germany and Austria in 19th centry for the purpose of improving national power in international society taking both of advanced industrial and legal system after Western civilization. Therefore, both of jurist and people criticized Meiji constitution as pseudo constitutionalism(Scheinkonstitutionalismus), in which strong imperial sovereignity and authoritarian administration established. In the meantime, a line of legal theory backed by many scholars who beleived in modern constitutionalism oriented from western country were rised against imperial monarchy and arbitrary government, emphasizing democracy that all sovereignity of political power come from people, and constitutionalism that government limited by the terms of constitution, not government limited only by the desire and capacities of those who exercise practical powers, even though Emperor Meiji. They particularly criticized that Emperor's power was as unilmited as 17th centrie's legal doctrine of Devine Right of Crowen in England neglecting fundamental right of human and limitating rights of legislation by parliament. However, the suggestions of constitutionalism instead of imperial monarchy was rejected by Meiji government and scholars were cruelly impeached by militarist government during the World War Ⅱ later on. In 1947, Constitution of Japan was revised by American enfluence under the occupation, to democratic constitutionalism obtained, such as provisions: division of power system, and protection of human right etc.

        Regulation of MicroRNA-Mediated Developmental Changes by the SWR1 Chromatin Remodeling Complex

        <P>The ATP-dependent SWR1 chromatin remodeling complex (SWR1-C) exchanges the histone H2A-H2B dimer with the H2A.Z-H2B dimer, producing variant nucleosomes. Arabidopsis thaliana SWR1-C contributes to the active transcription of many genes, but also to the repression of genes that respond to environmental and developmental stimuli. Unlike other higher eukaryotic H2A.Z deposition mutants (which are embryonically lethal), Arabidopsis SWR1-C component mutants, including arp6, survive and display a pleiotropic developmental phenotype. However, the molecular mechanisms of early flowering, leaf serration, and the production of extra petals in arp6 have not been completely elucidated. We report here that SWR1-C is required for miRNA-mediated developmental control via transcriptional regulation. In the mutants of the components of SWR1-C such as arp6, sef, and pie1, miR156 and miR164 levels are reduced at the transcriptional level, which results in the accumulation of target mRNAs and associated morphological changes. Sequencing of small RNA libraries confirmed that many miRNAs including miR156 decreased in arp6, though some miRNAs increased. The arp6 mutation suppresses the accumulation of not only unprocessed primary miRNAs, but also miRNA-regulated mRNAs in miRNA processing mutants, hyl1 and serrate, which suggests that arp6 has a transcriptional effect on both miRNAs and their targets. We consistently detected that the arp6 mutant exhibits increased nucleosome occupancy at the tested MIR gene promoters, indicating that SWR1-C contributes to transcriptional activation via nucleosome dynamics. Our findings suggest that SWR1-C contributes to the fine control of plant development by generating a balance between miRNAs and target mRNAs at the transcriptional level.</P>
