The paper is based on data collected from the Amazon website (specific in the Handmade's Category) to understand and analyze Vietnamese artisans' business context. Data analysis is also applied to determine the factors that bring success Handmade products and compare products of the same industry among competitors to find out potential products. By collecting data from Amazon and analyzing the data, we extracted useful information for online business developers. Besides, the list of potential products in Handmade sector can be referred to improve the business and compete with competitors. This paper also proposes solutions to help Vietnamese products become more appealing to international customers on the Amazon website.

Consumer demand for high-quality and safe fermented meat products is increasing recently, with great attention on functional starter cultures using lactic acid bacteria (LAB). This study aimed to select autochthonous LAB strains that have beneficial effects for human health and technological properties for the production of lap xuong, a traditional fermented sausage of ethnic minorities in northwestern Vietnam. From nine lap xuong samples, 63 LAB strains were isolated and identified into 14 species belonging to 8 genera. Latilactobacillus sakei was the most common species, followed by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Lactococcus lactis, and Pediococcus pentosaceus. Five strains of Enterococcus faecium LM0204, Lactococcus lactis LM0302, Latilactobacillus sakei LM0405, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LM0705, and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LM0901 exhibited probiotic properties, including tolerance to gastrointestinal tract conditions, adhesion ability to HT-29 cell line, antagonistic activity against harmful bacteria, and antioxidant activities. The strains were further evaluated for technological and safe properties, such as gas production, growth at different temperatures and simulated fermentation and ripening stages, lactic acid production, biogenic amine production, and antibiotic susceptibility. Enterococcus faecium LM0204 and Lactococcus lactis LM0302 were excluded because of tyramine production or unable growth in simulated fermentation conditions. All together probiotic properties and better technical functionality, Latilactobacillus sakei LM0405 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LM0705 were proposed as starter cultures for sausage production in northwestern Vietnam. Further studies are needed to standardize the sensory quality and safety aspects of lap xuong in this area using the proposed starter cultures strains for making fermented sausage.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of yeast extract (YE) and salicylic acid (SA) on the expression of curcuminoid-biosynthesis genes (CzDCS and CURS1-3), and accumulation of curcumin in Curcuma zedoaria cell cultures. The results showed that, in cells treated with YE or SA, the expression levels of curcuminoid genes were 1.14- to 3.64-fold higher than the control (untreated cells), in which the YE exhibited a stronger effect in comparison with SA. Curcumin accumulation also tended to be similar to gene expression, curcumin contents in YE- or SA-treated cells were 1.61- to 2.53-fold higher than the control. The SA treatment at the fifth day of culture stimulated the curcumin accumulation and expression in all four genes compared to that at the beginning. While the YE treatments gave different results, the CzCURS1 and CzCURS3 genes were expressed strongly in cells that were treated at the beginning. However, the CzDCS and CzCURS2 genes showed the opposite expression pattern, they were activated strongly in the treatments at day five of the culture. However, the content of curcumin reached its maximum value on the fifth day of culture in all investigations.
Determinants of the World’s Rice Trade: The Role of Trade Costs
Anh Lan Thi NGUYEN,Thong Le PHAM,Xuyen Vinh Khanh TRUONG 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.5
We investigate the impacts of tariff, tariff-rate quota, conformity assessment, and traceability requirements set by the rice importers using panel data of 17 rice exporters exporting to 119 countries in two years 2015 and 2018, using both Ordinary least square (OLS) and Poisson pseudo maximum likelihood (PPLM) methods. Results from our gravity models strongly indicate that tariff and tariff rate quota remain significantly detrimental to the world’s rice exporters because these measures place downward pressure on the rice exporters’ prices and the importers’ import quantity, creating barriers to market participation. Our study also provides strong evidence about the role of origin certificates in allowing rice exporters to gain access to foreign markets. Meanwhile, regulatory standards such as traceability requirements and logistical and distributional requirements imposed by the rice importers are found to be major obstacles to rice importation from lessdeveloped countries. Our study provides insights into tariff and non-tariff barriers existing in the global rice market, which is likely to assist policymakers operating in developing countries to help shape their policies and bolster rice competitiveness.

This study describes the preparation and characterization of a green and safe membrane based on a natural polymer for metal adsorption. Natural rubber-grafted-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) with a special nanostructure was synthesized by graft copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) onto the surface of natural rubber (NR) particles using tert-butylhydroperoxide/tetraethylenepentamine as initiators. Optimal conditions for achieving high conversion and grafting efficiency were identified. Characterization of the as-synthesized samples was performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile measurement, swelling degree determination, and cytotoxicity testing. The results revealed that HEMA formed a nanoscale matrix surrounding NR particles, which improved the tensile strength, thermal resistance, and swelling degree of the as-prepared samples. Cytotoxicity testing demonstrated that the membrane was safe for human use, as it did not exhibit toxicity to Vero cells at concentrations up to 1024 μg/mL. Furthermore, the membrane displayed a high adsorption capacity toward Fe3+ and was well described by Koble-Corrigan isotherm model and the first–second-order kinetic equation. Moreover, the membrane demonstrated excellent recyclability maintaining its adsorption ability towards Fe3+ ions over five consecutive cycles. Overall, these findings may recommend the NR-HEMA membrane as a promising candidate for metal removal applications.
