<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Five different shapes of magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) particles (Plate-S, Plate-N, Disk, Whisker, and Fiber) were synthesized and added to biopolymer (i.e., Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)) composite to improve their mechanical and biological properties. The PLGA composite films including Mg(OH)2 particles were prepared by a solvent casting method. Their mechanical and biological properties were compared according to the composites containing different shapes of Mg(OH)2 particles. Among them, the fiber shape of Mg(OH)2 provided the highest mechanical strength, and anti-inflammation and anti-bacterial activity to PLGA films among other forms. This study demonstrated a new strategy for the design of biomaterials by controlling the form of inorganic additives.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Factors affecting bone mineral density in children and adolescents with secondary osteoporosis
Jang Min Jeong,Shin Chungwoo,Kim Seongkoo,Lee Jae Wook,Chung Nack-Gyun,Cho Bin,Jung Min Ho,Suh Byung-Kyu,Ahn Moon Bae 대한소아내분비학회 2023 Apem Vol.28 No.1
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the clinical factors associated with bone mineral density (BMD) among children and adolescents with osteoporosis secondary to treatment for underlying clinical conditions. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients aged 10–18 years and evaluated them for lumbar spine BMD (LSBMD) after treatment for underlying diseases, including hemato-oncologic, rheumatologic system, and inflammator y bowel diseases. LSBMD measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) performed from March 2019 to March 2021 was evaluated. We analyzed 117 patients who underwent initial DXA after treatment for underlying diseases. Results: Subjects in this study had multiple underlying diseases: hemato-oncologic (78.6%), rheumatologic (11.1%), and inflammatory bowel diseases (10.3%). There was no significant association between the z-score and bone metabolic markers (P>0.05). However, higher cumulative glucocorticoid (GC) dose significantly reduced LSBMD z-score (<i>P</i>=0.029). Moreover, the association between cumulative dose of GC and initial z-score of LSBMD was significant in logarithmic regression analysis (<i>P</i>=0.003, R2=0.149). GC accumulation was a significant risk factor for vertebral fracture when the initial BMD was evaluated after treatment (<i>P</i>=0.043). Bone metabolic markers did not significantly influence the risk of vertebral fracture. Conclusion: Initial bone mass density of the lumbar spine evaluated after long-term GC use for underlying diseases is a predictor of further vertebral fractures.
Higher Plasma Thrombospondin-1 Levels in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease and Diabetes Mellitus
Choi, Kyu-Young,Kim, Dong-Bin,Kim, Myung-Jun,Kwon, Bum-June,Chang, Seo-Yoon,Jang, Sung-Won,Cho, Eun-Joo,Rho, Tai-Ho,Kim, Jae-Hyung The Korean Society of Cardiology 2012 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.42 No.2
<P><B>Background and Objectives</B></P><P>Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is associated with atherosclerosis in animals with diabetes mellitus (DM). But, no study has investigated the role of TSP-1 in human atherosclerosis. This study investigated the relationship among plasma TSP-1 concentration, DM, and coronary artery disease (CAD).</P><P><B>Subjects and Methods</B></P><P>The study involved 374 consecutive subjects with suspected CAD, who had undergone coronary angiography to evaluate effort angina. Patients were divided into four groups as follows: DM(-) and CAD(-), DM(-) and CAD(+), DM(+) and CAD(-), and DM (+) and CAD(+).</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>We found that plasma TSP-1 levels were higher in patients with DM(+) and CAD(+) (n=103) than those in other patients (n=271) (p<0.01). A multivariate analysis showed that male gender {odds ratio (OR), 2.728; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.035-7.187}, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (OR, 0.925; 95% CI, 0.874-0.980), glycated hemoglobin (OR, 1.373; 95% CI, 1.037-1.817), and plasma TSP-1 (OR, 1.004; 95% CI, 1.000-1.008) levels were independently associated with the presence of CAD in patients with DM.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Plasma TSP-1 levels were higher in patients with DM(+) and CAD(+) than those in other patients, and plasma TSP-1 levels were independently associated with the presence of CAD in patients with DM. These findings show a possible link between human plasma TSP-1 concentration and CAD in patients with DM.</P>
Review of genus Coptotriche (Lepidoptera, Tischeriidae), with a new species in Korea
Hyeong-Kyu Kim,Ulziijargal Bayarsaikhan,Sol-Moon Na,Dong-June Lee,Jae-Ho Ko,Tak-Gi Lee,Yeong-Bin Cha,Chang-Moon Jang,Yang-Seop Bae 한국응용곤충학회 2018 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2018 No.10
The genus Coptotriche belongs to leafmining family Tischeriidae, comprising about 60 species in the world. They live in inside leaves during immature stage; larvae feed on tissue of the leaf, producing mining trace. The pupa also spend in the mine, and emerge to become a adult from the mine. In Korea, two species, C. angusticollella and C. heinemanni, are reported and are known as pest about Rosa multiflora and Rubus crataegifolius respectively. In the present study, we review three species of genus Coptotriche in Korea with a new species. Brief descriptions and illustrations of the adults, male and female genitalia, larvae, pupae, and host plants are provided.

Two species of Tischeriidae, Tischeria decidua siorkionla (Kozlov, 1986) and Coptotriche minuta (Diškus & Stonis, 2014) are newly recorded in Korea. Photographs of adults, genitalia and host plants are provided, as well as redescriptions of those two species. The checklist of Korean Tischeriidae is updated.

Although the massive MIMO system supports a high throughput, it requires a lot of channel information for channel compensation. For the reduction of overhead, the massive MIMO system generally uses TDD as duplexing scheme. Therefore, the massive MIMO system is sensitive to rapidly changing fast fading in according to time. For the improvement of reduced SINR by fast fading, the adaptive power control is proposed. Unlike the conventional scheme, the proposed scheme considers mobility of device for adaptive power control. The simulation of the proposed scheme is performed with consideration for mobility of device. The result of the simulation shows that the proposed scheme improves SINR. Since SINR is decreased in according to the number of device in the network by unit of cell, each base station can accommodate more devices by the proposed scheme. Also, because the massive MIMO system with high SINR can use high order modulation scheme, it can support higher throughput.
