Field measurement of local ice pressures on the ARAON in the Beaufort Sea

This study conducted four field measurements of local ice pressure during the icebreaking voyage of theicebreaking research vessel “ARAON” in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas from July to August of 2010. For measurements,14 strain gauges, including 8 strain gauge rosettes, were set on the bow of the port side. Influence coefficientswere determined using a finite element model of the instrumented area and they were used to convert the measuredstrains on the hull structure to local ice pressures. The converted maximum pressure was calculated as 2.12 MPa on anarea of 0.28 m2. Pressure-area curves were developed from the surveyed pressure data and the results were comparedwith previously measured data. The study results are expected to provide an understanding of local ice pressures andthus be useful in the structural design of ice class ships.
Two newly record species of Spilomelinae (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) from Korea

We report two species of Spilomelinae, Syllepte ningpoalis (Leech, 1889) and Tyspanodes gracilis Inoue,1982, for the first time in Korea. Illustrations of adults and genitalia are presented.
Review of the genus Botyodes Guenée (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) from Korea, with a new Asian records

The genus Botyodes Guenée, 1854 of Korea is reviewed, with three species including one newly recorded species, Botyodes asialis Guenée, 1854 (also newly recorded for Cambodia). A key to the Korean species of the genus Botyodes is provided, with illustrations of adults, wing venation and genitalia of all the examined species. Diagnoses of species, host plants and distribution are presented.

We report two species of the family Erebidae (Lepidoptera, Noctuoidea), Hulodes caranea (Cramer, [1780]) from Mt. Deogyu and Hypena (Hypena) narratalis Walker, [1859] from Jangam cave, for the first time from Korea. The genus Hulodes is also newly represented in Korea. Illustrations of adults and genitalia of examined species are provided.

This paper reports a new model for the fatigue strength assessment of welded joints with residual stresses. The effects of residual stresses are assumed to be equivalent to those of mean stresses However residual stresses are released during cyclic loadings. The proposed model consists of three ingredients, a hot-spot stress approach, a residual stress relaxation mechanism, and an equivalent stress. The equivalent stress is modeled by stress ranges and the ratios between mean stresses and the ultimate stress of material. Once being tuned with two specific fatigue tests, this model can be applied to arbitrary stress ratios and many kinds of welded joints. Three fatigue tests were carried out under a constant amplitude loading and two variable amplitude loadings, and the results were putted together with those of present model. The two results are going quite closely.
서해 도서지역의 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전에 대한 경제성 분석

본 연구에서는 최대 발전량이 500kW인 서해 도서의 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템에 대한 경제성 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위해 해당 도서에 대한 연간 전력 부하 변동치와 바람 데이터를 수집하고 분석하였으며, 풍력을 포함하여 신재생 에너지에 대한 하이브리드 최적화 모델로 미국의 NREL에서 개발한 Homer 프로그램을 이용하였다. 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템의 경제성을 판단하기 위해 풍속과 경유 가격을 변수로 하는 민감도 해석도 수행하였다. 그 결과, 현재의 조건에서는 경제성이 낮았으나, 풍속이 초속 3미터가 넘거나 경유 가격이 리터당 2.4달러를 초과할 경우 대상지역에도 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템이 경제성을 갖는 것으로 평가되었다. In this paper, an economic feasibility study of wind-diesel hybrid power systems for an island in the Yellow Sea, where the maximum power generation is about 500kW, was performed. For the study, annual electric load variation and wind resource data of the island were collected and analyzed. HOMER program - a typical hybrid optimization model for electric renewables including wind resource, developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory - was used. Wind speed and diesel price were picked out as variables for the sensitivity analysis in order to find the economic accountability for the wind-diesel hybrid power system. As the result, even though it is not feasible economically under the present condition, if mean wind speed is over 3 m/sec. or diesel price goes up to 2.4 $ per liter, the wind-diesel hybrid power system for the island becomes a prospective candidate.

연근해를 운항하는 선박의 경우, 선저가 암초 상에 올라앉는 정지형 좌초 (stranding)를 당할 확률이 상대적으로 높다. 손상을 입은 선박의 최종강도는 저하할 것이다. 본 논문에서는 시리즈 붕괴실험을 수행하여 선체구조의 최종강도에 대한 정지형 좌초손상의 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 단면이 723㎜ × 723㎜이고, 시험체의 길이가 540㎜인 5개의 박스 거더형 모형이 제작되었으며, 각 판 부재에는 종보강재가 부착되어 있다. 5개의 모델 중에는 1개의 비손상 모형과 암초 단면을 이상화한 마름모꼴 손상을 가진 4개의 손상 모형이 있다. 손상 모형 중 3개는 손상부의 판을 잘라 내었으며, 1개는 보다 실제적인 좌초손상을 표현하기 위해 프레스 가공하였다. 최종강도 실험은 순수 굽힘 하중 하에서 수행되었으며, 작용 하중과 선저판의 변위를 계측하였다. 실험 결과, 최종강도는 손상의 크기가 증가할수록 감소하였다. 손상이 선폭의 30%에 이르는 가장 큰 손상 모형의 최종강도는 비손상 모형에 비해 약 21% 정도 감소되었다. 프레스 가공한 손상 모형의 최종강도는 손상부를 잘라 내어 제거한 모형에 비해 낮았다. 이는 프레스 가공한 손상부의 판이 최종강도를 떨어뜨리는 쪽으로 작용한 것으로 생각된다. Ships operating in littoral sea are likely to be subjected to accidental load such as stranding. Once she has damage on the hull structure, her ultimate strength will be reduced. This paper is to investigate the effect of the stranding damage on ultimate strength of ship structure by using a series of collapse tests. For the experiment, 723㎜ × 723㎜ in section 때d 540㎜ in length of five box-girder models with stiffeners were prepared. Of the five, one has no damage and four have an diamond shaped damage which represents the shape of rock section in seabed. The damage size is different between models. Among the damaged models, the damages of 3 of them were made by cutting the plate and one by pressing to represent stranding damage. Experiments were carried out under pure bending load and the applied load and displacements were recorded. The ultimate strength is reduced as the damage size increases, as expected. The largest damaged model has the damage size of 30% of breadth and its ultimate strength is reduced by 21% than that of no damaged one. The pressed one has lower ultimate strength than cut one. This might be due to the fact that the plate around the pressed damage area effect negatively on the ultimate strength.
북극해 계측자료에 기초한 아라온호의 국부 빙압력 계산 연구

The icebreaking research vessel (IBRV) ARAON had her second ice trial in the Arctic Ocean in the summer season of 2010. During the voyage, the local ice loads acting on the bow of the side were measured using 14 strain gauges. These measurements were carried out in three icebreaking performance tests. To convert the measured strains into the local ice pressures, a finite element model of the instrumented area was developed. The influence coefficient method (ICM), which uses the influence coefficient from the finite element model, and the direct method, which uses the measured strain, were selected as the conversion methods. As a result, the maximum measured pressure was 1.236MPa, and the average difference between ICM and the direct method was about 5% for an area of 0.2㎡. The pressure-area relationship of the measurement falls below the range of the existing pressure-area curve, which is due to the low ice strength of melted ice in the summer.
