This study investigated the effects of nano aluminum nitride (AlN) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of vitrifiedbond diamond tools. Raman spectra analysis indicated that added nano AlN helped to protect the diamond crystal structureduring sintering. The diffraction peaks of diamond, AlN, Al2O3, and a few of SiO2 crystal were observed in the X-raydiffraction analysis. However, a lower sintering temperature of 690 oC in this study decreased the formation of Al2O3 and α-SiO2 phases. Scanning electron microscope images showed that addition of 10 vol% nano AlN into the specimen provided anappropriate wetting and bonding between the diamond grits and the matrix, thus producing the highest grinding ratio (24.1)of the tools and the best workpiece surface roughness. The added amount of nano AlN higher than 20 vol% would trigger gaseruption from the matrix during the sintering process, which produced a larger number of pores and caused the vitrifiedmatrix expansion. The deteriorated microstructure decreased the mechanical properties of vitrified bond diamond tools.
Microstructures of W-Mo-Ni-Fe Heavy Alloys
Lin Kuan-Hong,Hsu Chen-Siang,Lin Shun-Tian 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1
Tungsten heavy alloys with different ratios of Mo and Ni-Fe matrix were liquid-phase-sintered to investigate their microstructural evolution. Results indicated that increased Mo in the alloy promoted the formation of a (W,Mo)(Ni,Fe) type intermetallic compound in the furnace-cooled condition. It was a monoeutectic reaction when the added Mo content was higher than 49at.%, or a eutectic reaction when this value was between 37at,% to 49at.%. When Mo was added between 25at.% to 37at.%, the precipitation of the intermetallic compound took place by either a eutectoid or peritectoid reaction.

Fast and reliable communication plays a major role in the success of smart shopping applications. In a ”Just Walk Out” shopping scenario, a video camera is installed on the cart to monitor shopping activities and transmit images to the cloud for processing so that items in the cart can be tracked and checked out. This paper proposes a prototype of a smart shopping cart based on image-based action recognition. Firstly, deep learning networks such as Faster R-CNN, YOLOv2, and YOLOv2-Tiny are utilized to analyze the content of each video frame. Frames are classified into three classes: No Hand, Empty Hand, and Holding Items. The classification accuracy based on Faster RCNN, YOLOv2, or YOLOv2-Tiny is between 93.0% and 90.3%, and the processing speed of the three networks can be up to 5 fps, 39 fps, and 50 fps, respectively. Secondly, based on the sequence of frame classes, the timeline is divided into No Hand intervals, Empty Hand intervals, and Holding Items intervals. The accuracy of action recognition is 96%, and the time error is 0.119s on average. Finally, we categorize the events into four cases: No Change, placing, Removing, and Swapping. Even including the correctness of the item recognition, the accuracy of shopping event detection is 97.9%, which is higher than the minimal requirement to deploy such a system in a smart shopping environment. A demo of the system and a link to download the data set used in the paper are in Smart Shopping Cart Prototype or found at this URL: https://hackmd.io/abEiC83rQoqxz7zpL4Kh2w.

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory responsesyndrome caused by severe infections. Astilbin is a dihydroflavonolderivative found in many medicinal and foodplants with multiple pharmacological functions. To investigatethe effects of astilbin on sepsis-induced acute lunginjury (ALI), cecal ligation and puncture was performed onrats to establish a sepsis-induced ALI model; these ratswere then treated with astilbin at different concentrations. Lung injury scores, including lung wet/dry ratio, proteinleakage, myeloperoxidase activity, and inflammatory cellinfiltration were determined to evaluate the effects ofastilbin on sepsis-induced ALI. We found that astilbintreatment significantly attenuates sepsis-induced lunginjury and improves survival rate, lung injury scores, lungwet/dry ratio, protein leakage, myeloperoxidase activity, and inflammatory cell infiltration. Astilbin treatment alsodramatically decreased the production of inflammatorycytokines and chemokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Further, astilbin treatment inhibited the expression andproduction of macrophage inhibitory factor (MIF), whichinhibits the inflammatory response. Collectively, these datasuggest that astilbin has a protective effect against sepsisinducedALI by inhibiting MIF-mediated inflammatoryresponses. This study provides a molecular basis for astilbinas a new medical treatment for sepsis-induced ALI.

Cordyceps sinensis is one of the most valuable medicinal caterpillar fungi native to China. However, its productivity is extremely limited and the species is becoming endangered. The genetic diversity of eighteen C. sinensis populations across its major distributing regions in China was evaluated by inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. A total of 141 markers were produced in 180 individuals from the 18 populations, of which 99.3% were polymorphic. The low average of Shannon (0.104) and Nei index (0.07) of the 18 populations indicates that there are little genetic variations within populations. For all 18 populations, estimates of total gene diversity (HT), gene diversity within populations (HS), coefficient of genetic differentiation (GST), and gene flow (Nm) were 0.170, 0.071, 0.583, and 0.357, respectively. This pattern suggests that the genetic diversity of C. sinensis is low and most of the ISSR variations are found among populations with little gene exchange. The 18 populations are divided into five groups based on the genetic distance and the grouping pattern matches with the geographic distribution along the latitudinal gradient. The five groups show obvious difference in the GST and Nm values. Therefore, the genetic diversification of C. sinensis populations may be determined by geographic isolation and the combined effects of life history characters and the interaction with host insect species. The information illustrated by this study is useful for selecting in situ conservation sites of C. sinensis.
Study on Soy Isoflavone Consumption and Risk of Breast Cancer and Survival
Kang, Hong-Bin,Zhang, Ya-Feng,Yang, Jin-Dun,Lu, Kuan-Liang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3
Aim: Isoflavones in soy foods are part of a larger class of flayonoid compounds that have have been demonstrated to be potent dietary anti-cancer agents, and the effect of soy intake on the survival of ovarian cancer is conflicting. Therefore, we aimed to explore the whether soy intake is related to the risk of death of breast cancer. Methods: A prospective study was conducted. A total of 256 patients included in this study had breast cancer and were recruited between January 2004 and January 2006. All of them were followed up from since January 2011. A univariate Cox's regression analysis was used to assess the association between soy intake and survival. Results: The education level, menopausal status, ER/PR status and TNM stage were significant difference in the survival of breast cancer. The highest soy isoflavone was associated with a decreased death risk of breast cancer (OR=0.25, 95% CI=0.09-0.54). Moreover, the higher consumption of soy protein also presented a trend decreased breast cancer risk, and the highest consumption significantly reduced the cancer risk compared with the lowest consumption (OR=0.38, 95% CI=0.17-0.86). Conclusion: The present study suggests soy intake is associated with a significant reduced death risk of breast cancer in Chinese population. Further large sample studies are warranted to confirm the inverse association of soy consumption and breast cancer survival by menopausal status.
