A Balloon-based Operation Vehicle (BOV), which has been successfully developed at JAXA in the past two years for a new micro-gravity experimental method, is aiming a next stage of being a flying test bed of an air-breathing engine (pre-cooled turbojet engine) planed in 2008. In this paper, the aerodynamic characteristics of BOV obtained by CFD simulations are compared with wind tunnel experiments in 2005-2006. In addition, the latest experimental results for a new configuration with a main wing for a level flight are also presented.

In the present study, we attempted to apply DV-X$\alpha$ method to expressing the reactivity of materials. The expression of reactivity was discussed by comparison between ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G having hydraulic activity and ${\gamma}$-C$_2$S not having hydraulic activity at normal conditions. It was found that the model cluster used for calculation can finely reproduce the bulk and surface states using with and without point charge, respectively. The hydration state was also represented by placing OH ̄ on the surface of the cluster. It was calculated that the bond strength of the first layer (as surface) was bigger than that of inner layers (as bulk) for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$S while that of the first layer for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G was smaller than that of inner layers. Subsequently a model in which OH ̄ is coordinated on Ca at the surface was also calculated. The bond strength with OH ̄ was stronger than that without OH ̄, while for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G the bond strength with OH ̄ was weaker than that without OH ̄. From these results, it is concluded that the hydraulic activity depends on whether the bond strength for hydrated state becomes weaker than that unhydrated state or not.

Background: The present study investigated the radiation dose distribution of balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) among surgeons and medical staff, and this is the first research to observe such exposure in Japan. Materials and Methods: The study subjects were an orthopedic surgeon (n = 1) and surgical staff (n = 9) who intervened in BKP surgery performed at the National Hospital Organization Disaster Medical Center (Tokyo, Japan) between March 2019 and October 2019. Only disposable protective gloves (0.022 mmPb equivalent thickness or less) and trunk protectors were used, and no protective glasses or thyroid drapes were used. Results and Discussion: The surgery time per vertebral body was 36.2 minutes, and the fluoroscopic time was 6.8 minutes. The average exposure dose per vertebral body was 1.46 mSv for the finger (70 μm dose equivalent), 0.24 mSv for the lens of the eye (3 mm dose equivalent), 0.11 mSv for the neck (10 mm dose equivalent), and 0.03 mSv for the chest (10 mm dose equivalent) under the protective suit.The estimated cumulative radiation exposure dose of 23 cases of BKP was calculated to be 50.37 mSv for the fingers, 8.27 mSv for the lens, 3.91 mSv for the neck, and 1.15 mSv for the chest. Conclusion: It is important to know the exposure dose of orthopedic surgeons, implement measures for exposure reduction, and verify the safety of daily use of radiation during surgery and examination.

Mung bean (Vigna radiata) is an immunomodulatory medicinal plant, which is recognized as a component of a traditional postpartum diet. The liver plays a crucial role in fatty acid synthesis under the control of various hormones that are affected by pregnancy. This study was designed to establish whether the mung bean water extract, which contains prostaglandins that can regulate corpus luteum maturation, provided any benefits to liver metabolism after the dynamic hormonal change associated with pregnancy. Female C57BL/6J mice were used, and all mice received daily injections of progesterone (5.0 mg/kg) for 5 days, after which progesterone was withdrawn for 3 days. Gel-free/label-free proteomic analysis revealed that the abundance of several proteins was affected in the liver. Hormone manipulation induced changes in lipid metabolism-related protein abundance; oral administration of mung bean coat extract (MBC) for 3 days mitigated the changes and downregulated the expression of Cpt1α, Akr1β, and Srebp1 in the liver. Together with immunological leukocyte modulation assessed via proteomic analysis, we suggest that MBC may exert health-promoting effects through the modulation of lipid synthesis during postpartum recovery.
NEW EVALUATION METHOD FOR SURFCE ENERGY WITH μm SIZE LIQUID DROPLETS

New evaluation method of surface energy with an ESEM was proposed. In this method, condensed liquid droplets were used for the measurement of contact angle. Two different contact angles with water and diiodemethane droplets on the specimen provided surface energy of the specimen. The surface energy obtained with this method is the same as the values by the conventional method with micro-syringe. Therefore, this method can use for the evaluation of the surface energy. Contact angles of water droplets are independent of the diameter of the droplets. On the other hand, contact angles of diiodemethane decrease with diameter of that if the diameter is more than 100μm.

The structural characteristics, the mechanism of crystal growth, and the ferroelectric properties of partially Sm-substituted perovskite bismuth-samarium-nickel-titanate [(Bi1−xSmx)(Ni0.5Ti0.5)- O3; BSNT, x = 0− 0.9] thin films deposited on Pt(100)/MgO(100) substrates by rf sputtering have been investigated using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and polarization - electric field hysteresis loop measurements. The fabricated BSNT samples with x≥0.6 were confirmed to have a single-phase perovskite structure. Of the four samples (x = 0.6 0.7, 0.8, and 0.9) with a single-phase perovskite structure, the c-axis-oriented epitaxial BSNT film with x = 0.9 exhibited the best hysteresis loop, with a remanent polarization of 2 μC/cm2 and a coercive field of 100 kV/cm.
