This Study introduces ‘Emotional Literacy’ as a concept to explain the learner’s emotional response to poetry, based on the belief that poetry appreciation education should pay attention to the learner’s emotional response process, and aims to project poetry appreciation education for developing emotional literacy. The act of appreciating poetry is not only an act toward the other implied in the poem but also toward the inside of the self. Thus, the learners as the reader can figure out in depth the emotion of the text through experiencing the other’s and their own emotions, and understanding how that experiences are related with subject’s perception and way of life. This way of poem reading is made possible through the process of constant communication between the other and the learners, and the emotions provoked in the appreciation process can be internalized in learners through self-reflection on their own reaction. Therefore, This study conceptualizes the ‘Emotional Literacy’ as learner’s ability to perceive, understand, express, and self-reflect about the emotion in the process of poetry appreciation, and aims to design the poetry appreciation education by analyzing the types and problems of the real learner’s practice of emotional literacy. In order to examine the types of emotional literacy of the learners, this study selected the modern poetry texts according to the criteria for activating the emotional response. After that, based on the theory of the appreciation of works of art, presented principle as ‘Perception of expressed emotions in the text’, ‘Communication for understanding emotions subjectively’, and ‘Self-reflection of emotional response for expressing emotions’. This study assumed these categories as having a circular and complementary nature rather than a linear process or stages. Based on this, this study categorized the real practicing aspects by analysing the learners’ reports. The aspects of learners’ emotional literacy practicing were categorized as follows by data analysis. First, ‘Understanding informations of the text and Perceiving of expressed emotions in the text’ was presented as capturing emotions through discovery of emotional marks, suggesting emotional situations through text citations, and inferring emotions through context reconstitution. Second, as the result of categorizing by similarity of experiences that learners use as a communication mechanism to build a communicative relationship between themselves and others, ‘Communication between self-other and Subjectivization of emotions’ was presented as empathic understanding of emotions through recollecting similar experiences, relative understanding of emotions through referring adjacent experiences, and concretization of own emotions through comparing with others. Third, ‘Self-reflecting of emotional response and expression of emotions’ was divided into two aspects according to the learner’s reflection process on self-expression, it was found to recognize the effect of other’s emotional expression and to reconstruct emotional expression through reflective comparison. This study explored the possibility of education about emotional response by assuming the emotional literacy as learners’ appreciation ability that can be confirmed and extended in the process of poetry appreciation. The significance of this study is that it can form a communicative self, secure active attitude of learner as the emotional subject, deepen the learners‘ appreciation and enhance their ability to express emotions, by designing concrete educational methods through analyzing the aspects of actual learners.

Fecal microbiome shifts by different forms of copper supplementations in growing pigs

( Minji Kim ),( Jae Hyoung Cho ),( Pil-nam Seong ),( Hyunjung Jung ),( Jin Young Jeong ),( Sheena Kim ),( Hyeri Kim ),( Eun Sol Kim ),( Gi Beom Keum ),( Robin B. Guevarra ),( Hyeun Bum Kim ) 한국축산학회 2021 한국축산학회지 Vol.63 No.6

Copper is an essential mineral for pigs, thus it is used as a feed additive in the forms of copper sulfate. Therefore, this study aimed at characterizing the fecal microbiota shifts in pigs as fed by different forms of copper supplementation. 40 growing pigs aged 73 ± 1 days with an average weight of 30.22 ± 1.92kg were randomly divided into 5 groups. The control group (CON) fed with basal diet, while treatment groups were fed a basal diet supplemented with 100 ppm/kg of copper sulfate (CuSO4), Cu-glycine complex (CuGly), Cu-amino acid complex (CuAA), and Cu-hydroxy(4methylthio)butanoate chelate complex (CuHMB) for 28 days of trial, respectively. The data presented the comparison between inorganic and organic copper supplementation through gut microbiota in growing pigs. Alpha and Beta diversity anaylsis resulted in copper supplementation did shifted gut microbioal community structure. At the phylum level, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the most abundant phyla at all times regardless of treatment. At the genus level, the relative abundances of Prevotella, Lactobacillus, Megasphaera, and SMB53 of the CuGly and CuHMB groups were significantly higher than those of copper sulfate and basal diet groups. Overall, this study may provide the potential role of organic copper replacing inorganic copper, resulting in increased beneficial bacteria in the pig gut.

Optimal Fermentation Conditions of Hyaluronidase Inhibition Activity on Asparagus cochinchinensis Merrill by Weissella cibaria

( Minji Kim ),( Kim Won-baek ),( Kyoung Yoon Koo ),( Bo Ram Kim ),( Doohyun Kim ),( Seoyoun Lee ),( Hong Joo Son ),( Dae Youn Hwang ),( Dong Seob Kim ),( Chung Yeoul Lee ),( Heeseob Lee ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.4

This study was conducted to evaluate the hyaluronidase (HAase) inhibition activity of Asparagus cochinchinesis (AC) extracts following fermentation by Weissella cibaria through response surface methodology. To optimize the HAase inhibition activity, a central composite design was introduced based on four variables: the concentration of AC extract (X1: 1-5%), amount of starter culture (X2: 1-5%), pH (X3: 4-8), and fermentation time (X4: 0-10 days). The experimental data were fitted to quadratic regression equations, the accuracy of the equations was analyzed by ANOVA, and the regression coefficients for the surface quadratic model of HAase inhibition activity in the fermented AC extract were estimated by the F test and the corresponding p values. The HAase inhibition activity indicated that fermentation time was most significant among the parameters within the conditions tested. To validate the model, two different conditions among those generated by the Design Expert program were selected. Under both conditions, predicted and experimental data agreed well. Moreover, the content of protodioscin (a well-known compound related to anti-inflammation activity) was elevated after fermentation of the AC extract at the optimized fermentation condition.

Accuracy of one-step automated orthodontic diagnosis model using a convolutional neural network and lateral cephalogram images with different qualities obtained from nationwide multi-hospitals

        Sunjin Yim,Sungchul Kim,Inhwan Kim,Jae-Woo Park,Jin-Hyoung Cho,Mihee Hong,Kyung-Hwa Kang,Minji Kim,Su-Jung Kim,Yoon-Ji Kim,Young Ho Kim,Sung-Hoon Lim,Sang Jin Sung,Namkug Kim,Seung-Hak Baek 대한치과교정학회 2022 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.52 No.1

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of one-step automated orthodontic diagnosis of skeletodental discrepancies using a convolutional neural network (CNN) and lateral cephalogram images with different qualities from nationwide multi-hospitals. Methods: Among 2,174 lateral cephalograms, 1,993 cephalograms from two hospitals were used for training and internal test sets and 181 cephalograms from eight other hospitals were used for an external test set. They were divided into three classification groups according to anteroposterior skeletal discrepancies (Class I, II, and III), vertical skeletal discrepancies (normodivergent, hypodivergent, and hyperdivergent patterns), and vertical dental discrepancies (normal overbite, deep bite, and open bite) as a gold standard. Pre-trained DenseNet-169 was used as a CNN classifier model. Diagnostic performance was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, t-stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE), and gradientweighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM). Results: In the ROC analysis, the mean area under the curve and the mean accuracy of all classifications were high with both internal and external test sets (all, > 0.89 and > 0.80). In the t-SNE analysis, our model succeeded in creating good separation between three classification groups. Grad-CAM figures showed differences in the location and size of the focus areas between three classification groups in each diagnosis. Conclusions: Since the accuracy of our model was validated with both internal and external test sets, it shows the possible usefulness of a one-step automated orthodontic diagnosis tool using a CNN model. However, it still needs technical improvement in terms of classifying vertical dental discrepancies.

KAAACI Allergic Rhinitis Guidelines: Part 1. Update in Pharmacotherapy

        Yang Song-I,Lee Il Hwan,Kim Minji,Ryu Gwanghui,강성윤,Kim Mi-Ae,이상민,Kim Hyun-Jung,Park Do-Yang,Lee Yong Ju,Kim Dong-Kyu,Kim Soo Whan,Kim Do Hyun,Jun Young Joon,박상철,Kim Bong-Seong,Chung Soo Jie,Lee Hyun J 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.1

The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) and the socioeconomic burden associated with the medical cost and quality of life (QOL) of AR have progressively increased. Therefore, practical guidelines for the appropriate management of AR need to be developed based on scientific evidence while considering the real-world environment, values, and preferences of patients and physicians. The Korean Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology revised clinical guidelines of AR to address key clinical questions of the management of AR. Part 1 of the revised guideline covers the pharmacological management of patients with AR in Korea. Through a meta-analysis and systematic review, we made 4 recommendations for AR pharmacotherapy, including intranasal corticosteroid (INCS)/intranasal antihistamine (INAH) combination therapy, oral antihistamine/INCS combination therapy, leukotriene receptor antagonist treatment in AR patients with asthma, and prophylactic treatment for patients with pollen-induced AR. However, all recommendations are conditional because of the low or very low evidence of certainty. Well-designed and strictly executed randomized controlled trials are needed to measure and report appropriate outcomes.

KAAACI Allergic Rhinitis Guidelines: Part 2. Update in Non-pharmacological Management

        Park Do-Yang,Lee Yong Ju,Kim Dong-Kyu,Kim Soo Whan,Yang Hyeon-Jong,Kim Do Hyun,Jun Young Joon,Park Sang Chul,Kim Bong-Seong,Yang Song-I,Lee Il Hwan,Kim Minji,Ryu Gwanghui,강성윤,Kim Mi-Ae,이상민,Kim Hyun-Ju 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.2

Allergic rhinitis is the most common chronic disease worldwide. Various upper airway symptoms lower quality of life, and due to the recurrent symptoms, multiple treatments are usually attempted rather than one definitive treatment. There are alternatives to medical (medication-based) and non-medical treatments. A guideline is needed to understand allergic rhinitis and develop an appropriate treatment plan. We have developed guidelines for medical treatment based on previous reports. The current guidelines herein are associated with the “KAAACI Evidence-Based Guidelines for Allergic Rhinitis in Korea, Part 1: Update in pharmacotherapy” in which we aimed to provide evidence-based recommendations for the medical treatment of allergic rhinitis. Part 2 focuses on non-pharmacological management, including allergen-specific immunotherapy, subcutaneous or sublingual immunotherapy, nasal saline irrigation, environmental management strategies, companion animal management, and nasal turbinate surgery. The evidence to support the treatment efficacy, safety, and selection has been systematically reviewed. However, larger controlled studies are needed to elevate the level of evidence to select rational non-medical therapeutic options for patients with allergic rhinitis.

      • 10-oxo-12(<i>Z</i>)-octadecenoic acid, a linoleic acid metabolite produced by gut lactic acid bacteria, enhances energy metabolism by activation of TRPV1

        Kim, Minji,Furuzono, Tomoya,Yamakuni, Kanae,Li, Yongjia,Kim, Young-Il,Takahashi, Haruya,Ohue-Kitano, Ryuji,Jheng, Huei-Fen,Takahashi, Nobuyuki,Kano, Yuriko,Yu, Rina,Kishino, Shigenobu,Ogawa, Jun,Uchid The Federation of American Societies for Experimen 2017 The FASEB Journal Vol.31 No.11

<P>Gutmicrobiota can regulate the host energymetabolism; however, the underlying mechanisms that could involve gut microbiota-derived compounds remain to be understood. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects ofKetoA [10-oxo-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid]-a linoleic acidmetaboliteproduced by gut lactic acid bacteria-on whole-body energy metabolism and found that dietary intake of KetoA could enhance energy expenditure in mice, thereby protecting mice from diet-induced obesity. By using Ca2+ imaging and whole-cell patch-clamp methods, KetoA was noted to potently activate transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and enhance noradrenalin turnover in adipose tissues. In addition, KetoA up-regulated genes that are related to brown adipocyte functions, including uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) inwhite adipose tissue (WAT), whichwas later diminished in the presence of a b-adrenoreceptor blocker. By using obese and diabetic model KK-Ay mice, we further show that KetoA intake ameliorated obesity-associatedmetabolic disorders. In the absence of any observedKetoA-induced antiobesity effect or UCP1 up-regulation in TRPV1-deficient mice, we prove that the antiobesity effect of KetoAwas caused by TRPV1 activation-mediated browning inWAT. KetoA produced in the gut could therefore be involved in the regulation of host energy metabolism.-Kim, M., Furuzono, T., Yamakuni, K., Li, Y., Kim, Y.-I., Takahashi, H., Ohue-Kitano, R., Jheng, H.-F., Takahashi, N., Kano, Y., Yu, R., Kishino, S., Ogawa, J., Uchida, K., Yamazaki, J., Tominaga, M., Kawada, T., Goto, T. 10-oxo-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid, a linoleic acid metabolite produced by gut lactic acid bacteria, enhances energy metabolism by activation of TRPV1.</P>
