The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality characteristics of sun-dried Hanwoo beef jerky added with Salicornia herbacea (SH). Sliced Hanwoo beef shank were marinated and sun-dried at 28-30oC, relative humidity (RH) 30-35% for 3.5 h. The physicochemical and microbiological traits of the Hanwoo beef jerky were analyzed during the aerobically packaged storage at 25oC. The water activities of beef jerky with 0.5% and 1.0% SH were lower than those of the control at 0 d (p
Wear Behavior of Silicon Nitride Depending on Gas Pressure Sintering Conditions
Kim, Sung-Ho,Lee, Soo-Wohn,Park, Yong-Kap The Korean Ceramic Society 2000 The Korean journal of ceramics Vol.6 No.3
Si$_3$N$_4$powder with 2 wt% $Al_2$O$_3$and 6 wt% $Y_2$O$_3$additives was sintered by the gas pressure sintering (GPS) technique. The unlubricated wear behavior depending on sintering conditions such as sintering temperature, pressure, and sintering time was investigated. When the sintering temperature and time increased, the larger elongated grains were formed and the microstructural heterogeneity increased. When sintering pressure increased, grain growth, however, was impeded. Also, the wear properties depended on microstructure and friction coefficient were related to grain size. Based on the experimental results, the wear properties were associated with initial friction coefficients as well as mechanical properties including fracture toughness and flexural strength.
Preservation of Some Partial Ordering under Formation of k-out-of-n Systems of Like components
Sang Lyong Kim,Jeen Kap Choi 한국데이터정보과학회 1995 한국데이터정보과학회지 Vol.6 No.1
In this paper, we shall convey preservation of some partial orderings and closures of some positive ageing classes under k-out-of-n systems of like components. That is, if the life time of a component A is larger than that of a component B in any of the NBU, DMRL, WBUE, HNBUE, NBUFR and NBUFRA orderings, then a k-out-of-n system formed by i.i.d. components of type A has larger life time, in that ordering, than that of a similar system consisting of n i.i.d. components type of B. And using these partial orderings, closures of positive aging classes(NBU, DMRL, NBUE, HNBUE, NBUFR and NBUFRA) under the coherent system like components.
A Scalable Multicasting with Group Mobility Support in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Kim, Kap-Dong,Lee, Kwang-Il,Park, Jun-Hee,Kim, Sang-Ha Korea Information Processing Society 2007 Journal of information processing systems Vol.3 No.1
In mobile ad hoc networks, an application scenario requires mostly collaborative mobility behavior. The key problem of those applications is scalability with regard to the number of multicast members as well as the number of the multicast group. To enhance scalability with group mobility, we have proposed a multicast protocol based on a new framework for hierarchical multicasting that is suitable for the group mobility model in MANET. The key design goal of this protocol is to solve the problem of reflecting the node's mobility in the overlay multicast tree, the efficient data delivery within the sub-group with group mobility support, and the scalability problem for the large multicast group size. The results obtained through simulations show that our approach supports scalability and efficient data transmission utilizing the characteristic of group mobility.

The ddh gene encoding meso-diaminopimelate (meso-DAP)-dehydrogenase (DDH) in Brevibacterium lactofermentum was isolated by complementation of the Escherichia coli dapD mutation. It was supposed from subcloning experiments and complementation tests that the evidence for DDH activity appeared in about 2.5 kb Xhol fragmented genome. The 2.5 kb Xhol fragment containing the ddh gene was sequenced, and an open reading frame of 960 by encoding a polypeptide comprising 320 amino acids was found. Computer analysis indicated that the deduced amino acid of the B. lactofermentum ddh gene showed a high homology with that of the Corynebacterium glutamicum ddh gene.

Objectives : Deer antler Herbal-Acupuncture (DHA) solution represents one of the most commonly used medicine to treat rheumatoid arthritis. But, mechanisms of its antiarthritic activities are still poorly understood. Identification of common DHA aqua-acupuncture capable of affording protection or modulating the onset and severity of arthritis may have important human health implications. Results : We determined if DHA could prevent the binding of IL-1β to its cellular receptors. DHA addition to rat chondrocytes treated with IL-1β or with reactive oxygen species(ROS) prevents the activation of proteoglycan synthesis. After treatment with IL-1β, DHA increased the expression of mRNA encoding the type II IL-1β receptor. These results emphasize the potential role of two regulating proteins of the IL-1β signaling pathway that could account for the beneficial effect of DHA in osteRArthritis. The present study also identifies a novel mechanism of DHA-mediated anti-inflammatory activity. Conclusion : It is shown that DHA inhibits both IL-1β- and TNF-α-induced NO production in normal human articular chondrocytes. The observed suppression of IL-1-induced NO production is associated with inhibition of inducible NO synthase(iNOS) mRNA and protein expression. In addition, DHA also suppresses the production of IL-1-induced cyclooxygenase-2 and IL-6. The constitutively expressed cyclooxygenase-1, however, was not affected by the sugar. These results demonstrate that DHA expresses a unique range of activities and identifies a novel mechanism for the inhibition of inflammatory processes.
