Simultaneous Determination of 285 Chemicals in Water at ppt Levels by GC-Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry

The authors have developed an analytical method for determining trace amounts of 285 kinds of chemicals in natural waters by GC-ion trap MS. The results of overall recovery tests at $0.1{\mu}g/l$ showed that the mean recovery was 92.1% and the mean relative standard deviation was 10.8%. The mean of the method detection limits was $0.036{\mu}g/l$. From the results of analysis of real samples, it was confirmed that this method is useful to elucidate the concentration levels and the fate of chemicals in the aquatic environment.
Lens Surgeries along the n-twisted Whitehead Link

We determine lens surgeries (i.e. Dehn surgery yielding a lens space) along the n-twisted Whitehead link. To do so, we first give necessary conditions to yield a lens space from the Alexander polynomial of the link as: (1) n = 1 (i.e. the Whitehead link), and (2) one of surgery coefficients is 1, 2 or 3. Our interests are not only lens surgery itself but also how to apply the Alexander polynomial for this kind of problems.

As a countermeasure against the problem of frequency and dynamic stability caused by drops in a large capacity generator, a wide-area special protection system called the Block System Stabilizer (BSS) has been used for the last approx. 40 years by the Kansai Electric Power Company. The conventional BSS has been updated as the Bulk Power System Stabilizer. The new BSS has been developed based on the concept of improving fault detection functions, concomitant with changing the power system configuration from radial to loop, and thereby enhancing human operational functions.
