本 實驗은 山羊精子의 代謝에 미치는 sorbitol 및 sorbitol+steroid hormones의 影響에 대하여 檢討할 目的으로 實施하였는데 얻어진 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 山羊精子의 呼吸은 sorbitol 의 添加에 의해 顯著히 促進되었다. 2. 精子의 呼吸促進物質인 sorbitol 과 스테로이드 호르몬의 倂用에서는 sorbit ol 의呼吸促進效果가 消失되었으며 스테로이드 호르몬의 强한 呼吸制御作用만이 나타났다. 3. 스테로이드 호르몬 중에서 呼吸制御作用이 가장 强하게 나타났던 것은progesterone이었고 比較的 弱했던 것은 testosterone이었다. Effect of sorbitol and sorbitol plus steroid hormones on the respiration of goat spermatozoa in vrtro have been studied. Gost semen were collected by the of artificial vagina. Respiration of washed spermatozoa was measured in Warburg manometer at 37℃in the persence of sorbitol(10 mM) and sorbitol (10mM)plus steroid hormones (100nM) Respiration of goat spermatozoa was markedly stimulated by the inculusion of sorbitol in the incrbation medium. In the presences of sorbitol plus steroid hormones, the rate of oxygen comsumption were markedly depressed. Progesterone was the most effective steroids in altering the metabolic paattern of the spermatozoa.
Preparation and Luminescence Properties of PDP Green Phosphors using Polymer Matrix Technique

The $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphors were prepared using polymer matrix technique in order to improve the performance of green emitting phosphors for plasma display panel(PDP). $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor exhibits a strong green emission around 520-530 nm. The emission intensity and particle size of powders were controlled by sintering temperature and raw material composition. The zinc silicate $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ single phase were obtained at lower temperature than prepared by solid-state reaction method. PL luminance of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor was similar to the commercial material.

ObjectiveaaElectroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a reasonable option for intractable depression or schizophrenia, but a mechanism of action has not been established. One credible hypothesis is related to neural plasticity. Three genes (Oct4, Sox2, c-Myc) involved in the induction of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are Wnt-target genes, which constitute a key gene group involved in neural plasticity through the TCF family. Klf4 is the other gene among Yamanaka’s four transcription factors, and increases in its expression are induced by stimulation of the canonical Wnt pathway. MethodsaaWe compared the peripheral blood gene expression of the four iPS genes (Oct4, Sox2, c-Myc, and Klf4) before and after modified ECT (specifically ECT with general anesthesia) of patients with intractable depression (n=6) or schizophrenia (n=6). Using Thymatron ten times the total bilateral electrical stimulation was evoked. ResultsaaBoth assessments of the symptoms demonstrated significant improvement after mECT stimulation. Expression of all four genes was confirmed to increase after initial stimulation. The gene expression levels after treatment were significantly different from the initial gene expression in all twelve cases at the following treatment stages: at the 3rd mECT for Oct4; at the 6th and 10th mECT for Sox2; and at the 3rd, 6th and 10th mECT for c-Myc. ConclusionaaThese significant differences were not present after correction for multiple testing; however, our data have the potential to explain the molecular mechanisms of mECT from a unique perspective. Further studie should be conducted to clarify the pathophysiological involvement of iPS-inducing genes in ECT.

<P>Cordierite ceramics were prepared from several types of kaolin powders and talc powders having various median particle size with nanometer-sized alumina sol. Powder mixtures were uniaxially pressed, followed by cold isostatic pressing to make thin compacts. Crystal orientation of talc particle and resultant cordierite were evaluated using the X-ray diffraction profile measured on the uniaxially pressed surface of calcined compacts and sintered compacts, respectively. Coarser talc powders above 3 mu m aligned their c-axis in vertical to the uniaxially pressed surface of the calcined compact during uniaxially pressing, owing to highly anisotropic tabular shape. The crystal orientation of resultant cordierite increased with an increase in the crystal orientation of talc powders on the pressed surface. This result indicated that the c-axis of cordierite crystal preferably oriented vertically to the c-axis of talc particle oriented. Using the combination of kaolin powders below 5 mu m and talc powders having median particle size between 3 and 5 mu m, densely sintered cordierite, having a relative density of 95% and high crystal orientation of approximately 85% [I-110/(I-110+I-002)], could be obtained. 숭어의 생식주기를 밝히기 위해 2002년 2월부터 2003년 3월까지 제주도 동남부 연안에서 채집하였고, 난모세포의 발달과정을 조직학적 방법으로 관찰하였다. 난모세포의 발달과정은 GSI 변화와 밀접하였다. GSI는 9월에 급격히 증가하여 12월에 최고 값을 나타내었다. 난소의 조직학적 관찰결과, 염색인기와 주변인기의 난모세포는 연중 관찰되었으며, 8월에는 일부에서 난황을 포함하는 난모세포가 관찰되었다. 대부분의 난모세포가 10월과 12월에는 난황구가 단계의 난모세포로 발달했다. 10월과 12월에 난황구기 난모세포들을 가진 개체의 출현이 가장 높았으며, 잔존여포와 퇴화 난모세포는 2월부터 관찰되었다. 숭어의 주산란기는 11월에서 1월이고, 난군동기발달형의 난소를 가지며 외양으로 이동하여 산란하는 어류에 속한다.

Objective: The impact of adjuvant radiotherapy on overall survival (OS) and progressionfree survival (PFS) of patients with grade II spinal cord astrocytomas remains controversial. Additionally, the relationship between progression and clinical deterioration after radiotherapy has not been well investigated. Methods: This study included 53 patients with grade II intramedullary spinal cord astrocytomas treated by either subtotal, partial resection or open biopsy. Their clinical performance status was assessed immediately before operation and 1, 6, 12, 24, and 60 months after surgery by Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). Patients with and without adjuvant radiotherapy were compared. Results: The groups with and without radiation comprised 23 and 30 patients with a mean age of 50.3 ± 22.6 years (range, 2–88 years). The mean overall disease progression rate was 47.1% during a mean follow-up period of 48.4 ± 39.8 months (range, 2.5–144.5 months). In the radiation group, 11 patients (47.8%) presented with progressive disease, whereas 14 patients (46.7%) presented with progressive disease in the group without radiation. There were no significant differences in OS or PFS among patients with or without adjuvant radiotherapy. KPS in both groups, especially radiation group, gradually decreased after operation and deteriorated before the confirmation of disease progression. Conclusion: Adjuvant radiotherapy did not show effectiveness regarding PFS or OS in patients with grade II spinal cord astrocytoma according to classical classification based on pathohistological findings.
Synthesis of Li<sub>2</sub>SiO<sub>3</sub> using novel water-assisted solid state reaction method

<P>Single phase of orthorhombic Li2SiO3 was synthesized via a novel soft-chemical synthesis method, water assisted solid state reaction method at 343-353K for 60 min. The crystal structure of the samples was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation revealed that the estimated size of the particles is 50-200 nm. The XRD patterns and SEM images were compared to those of samples by a conventional solid state method at 1173K for 4 h. (C) 2017 The Ceramic Society of Japan. All rights reserved.</P>
