The main nutritional problem of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolorxSorghum sudanese) silage is low quality and palatability. This experiment was conducted to evaluate whether organic com grain and crushed rice addition of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage increases forage quality of the silage. The sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silages with added com grain and crushed rice were similar to conventional corn silage in moisture content. However organic sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage had low pH values. Silage added with gain and byproduct had higher crude ash, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents than control corn silages, while its non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) showed the opposite results. Lactic acid, butyric acid and lactic percentage oftotal organic acid (UT) of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silages were higher than those of com silage, but acetic acid was higher than control. In vitro dry matter digestibi/ity (IVDMD) of com silage was higher than other sorghum silages. Feed intake of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage added with crushed rice was highest among silages. Therefore, these data indicate that crushed rice and com grain added sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage could be recommended as the most effective treatment for increasing silage quality and palatability.

Plastic shrinkage cracking occurs at the exposed surfaces of freshly placed concrete due to consolidation of the concrete mass and rapid evaporation of water from the surface. This so-called shrinkage cracking is a major concern for concrete, especially for flat structural such as pavement, slabs for industrial factories and walls. This study has been performed to obtain the plastic shrinkage properties of hydrophilic fiber reinforced mortar and concrete. The results of tests of the hydrophilic fibers were compared with plain and polypropylene fibers. Test results indicated that hydrophilic poly vinylalcohol fiber reinforcement showed an ability to reduce the total crack area and maximum crack width significantly( as compared to plain and polypropylene fiber reinforcement).
A New Black Seed Cost Soybean Cultivar, "Heugmi" with Lodging Tolerance and Green Cotyledon

A new black seed coat soybean cultivar, “Heugmi” was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2006. The goal to breed the black seed coat soybean is to develop the cultivar with high yield, lodging tolerance, resistant to disease such as soybean mosaic virus (SMV), and bacterial pustule and seed size. Heugmi was selected from the cross between Milyang 78, which was late maturing, susceptible to lodging and SMV and with large seed size and green cotyledon, and Milyang 68, which was middle maturing, resistant to lodging and SMV and with middle seed size and yellow cotyledon. The preliminary, advanced and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this cultivar were carried out from 2001 to 2006. It has determinate growth habit, purple flower, brown pubescence, black pod color, black seed coat, green cotyledon, spherical seed shape, oval leaf shape and middle seed size (24.8 grams per 100 seeds), and it was 2 days earlier in maturity than the check cultivar Cheongjakong. Heugmi was better in the seed quality of crude protein contents, sucrose and total sugar contents than the check cultivar. It also has been identified to have resistance to SMV which was the troublesome soybean diseases. The average yield of Heugmi was 2.53 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out in seven locations of Korea from 2004 to 2006, which was 8 percent higher than the check cultivar Cheongjakong.
Local structural alignment and classification of TIM barrel domains

TIM barrel domain is widely studied since it is one of most common structure and mediates diverse function maintaining overall structure. TIM barrel domain's function is determined by local structural environment at the C-terminal end of barrel structure. We classified TIM barrel domains by local structural alignment tool, LSHEBA, to understand characteristics of TIM barrel domain's functionalvariation. TIM barrel domains classified as the same cluster share common structure, function and ligands. Over 80% of TIM barrels in clusters share exactly the same catalytic function. Comparing clustering result with that of SCOP, we found that it's important to know local structural environment of TIM barrel domains rather than overallstructure to understand specific structural detail of TIM barrel function. Non TIM barrel domains were associated to make different domain combination to form a different function. The relationship between domain combination, we suggested expected evolutional history. We finally analyzed the characteristics of amino acids around ligand interface.
